Hey all, here's your first pick. You can discuss your pick in here, just make sure that you bold the card that you want to pick in your post. If there's a tie, I will defer to the captain if one has been elected or randomly between the tied options if you have declined to choose a captain.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

It seems to me that the choice is somewhere between Coldsteel Heart, Masticore, Flametongue Kavu, Mind Twist, and Control Magic. Both the 'Core and the mana rock are colorless and allow us to stay open, but I don't feel like they are strong enough P1P1 out of this pack. Mind Twist is powerful, but I don't like the card very much, either playing with or against it. That said, it is obviously powerful, and I would gladly pick it say P1P4-5, but maybe not here. This leaves both FTK and Control Magic. I like both very much. I was going to pick Control Magic, but Flametongue Kavu gives us more choices on the wheel (the white cards, the black cards, the artifacts, Goblin Trenches, Undiscovered Paradise, and even Firestorm); if we pick Control Magic, we gain Old Man of the Sea as a decent wheel, but lose (IMO) the white cards, the Trenches, and the land. Nonetheless it's close.
While most of what you said I agree with, where we disagree is on the rediculousness of Mind Twist. That card is leagues better than anything else in this pack. Its one of those cards that I'll routinely pick over most other things (except maybe Jitte/sol ring/some power). Its an amazing card in most decks, and if you get it early, its very easy to build a deck that takes advantage of its game sealing potential. Its also easily splashed, so it doesn't really commit us to a color yet. I'm curious to hear why you think differently though.
As to your two picks, I agree that Flametongue Kavu is better because it doesn't really commit us to a color yet either and their power levels are close enough to give the nod to the less color heavy competitor.
I honestly just can't think of any reason you'd want to pass Mind Twist though outside of not liking it for fun reasons.

That is one of the reasons. The other is that I don't think Mind Twist is that busted in an Unpowered cube; also, don't forget this is a 720 card cube, and the mana rocks will be much more diluted.
I don't play it in my cube, so I may be way off in my card evaluation regarding Mind Twist. If you believe it is still bonkers in this unpowered, 720-card cube, that's our pick.
Theres not a lot of cards ill go out on a limb for, but mind twist is one of them. And it does play black lotus/sol ring, so theres that chance too. Even w/o that though its still solid. Just curious, when u draft, what strategies do you tend to gravitate towards? Im of the combo control variety quite often.

I try to read the draft the best I can and draft what's available, but my 2 favorite (and most successful) archetypes are Green-based Ramp decks and WR aggro decks.
