Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

Serendib Efreet is the pick for me. I want to play this in almost any blue based deck. Either for the offence capabilities or for its strong aggro stopping toughness. It seems stronger then Lapse which mainly shines in tempo builds.
BTW, what happens in case we can't come to a consensus. Random pick between both? Team Captains vote is tie braker? First pick gets chosen?

I am very rarely happy with random dorks (i.e. creatures that are just creatures & don't come with some inherent protection from removal, or card advantage) in my control decks, and such cards are going to be filler cards if my draft went wrong. Efreet is probably decent if we end up in an aggro variant, but blue tends to be much stronger as a control deck, and Memory Lapse is a reasonable card in both aggro and control (and combo), and that's why it's my pick here.
Though I suppose this is the issue with joint Cube drafts - we've all been playing different formats, essentially (different cubes), and now we're supposed to draft together in an unknown environment (a cube none of us are particularly familiar with, I assume), and we're going to have very conflicting opinions. Glory Seeker was quite the card in Onslaught draft, but it's unplayable in Rise of the Eldrazi. So when one person has only played Onslaught and the other has only played Rise, the two are going to have very conflicting opinions on the card Glory Seeker
Another thing to keep in mind is that Cube is all about preference, unlike most other draft formats. Most just look to draft something they think is fun and are comfortable with. For me, that's the blue-heavy control deck, that packs a serious amount of counterspells and has as few creatures as possible. And that is going to impact my thoughts and opinions during this draft.
I am all for hard core blue control But as you say it probably is about preference. For me Serendib is so handy to have in every blue deck, that I can overlook the fact that it is 'just' a creature. It blocks very well, it attacks like a beast.
Memory Lapse is a decent counter, but a bit mediocre in hard control. If we end up something more aggressive then the Serendib would clearly have been better. Only in comboish decks the Lapse is the stronger of the two.
Two players is not ideal to make decisions, but if we end up discussing our picks then this has been a interesting exercise. I think both of us have been playing for a long time and I can see your sig that you are a tournament player (or at least were one until recently). My competitive days are almost fifteen years ago :old:, but I never quit Magic, so I think we might have interesting differences in opinion.

I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
Otherwise it's random between the competing picks
