Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

Do you think anyone else will take academy, though? Frankly, there's nothing in this pack we want that won't wheel. I'm tempted to grab one piece of burn now and then get the other (or a land) on the wheel. The ideal situation would be picking up double burn, giving us a strong sideboard against small creature decks.
So a very tentative Volcanic Hammer... Hmmm... But that can't be right.
Edit: I'll trust your math on the artifact count and switch to Tolarian Academy. Even if fire/ice wheels and we get two burn spells, you're right that we wouldn't maindeck either, and it might even be overkill in the sideboard.
Skidgod, I hear you on the survival of fittest being a great engine for this deck. I stuck with triskelion because I was hesitant to add another piece of machinery to a deck that already had two themes going on: artifact ramp and mana denial. I wanted to make sure the artifact ramp worked before going for a card outside that theme, albeit one that has great synergies with our deck. It might have been the wrong pick, and I'll feel especially dumb if we see another artifact creature. But if we end up with a low creature count (call and roar count for SoFI, but not SotF), I'll feel good about sticking with the plan and grabbing triskelion.
You know, I somehow missed that Survival was in that pack. Repeatable creature tutors on color are not to be dismissed. I might still have picked Trike, but we should have had more of a discussion about it. Sorry!
I would agree that the Hammer is the only card we are 100% maindecking from this pack, so we should just take it. Either land or Baloths would be fine on the wheel.
No worries, Trike is a fine card and great for our deck. I really wanted both, so if survival wheels we're gravy.
If I were more on top of it maybe we could have had the discussion.
I don't think either of the burn spells make our deck. I like all the burn we already have better and I'm not sure if there is room for all them. Unless we want to go hard burn and less artifacts. My pick is to take a chance with Tolarian Academy. Might not end up playing it but if it even gets us two mana that would be great if we had winter orb in play. If we play 10 artifacts we'd have 2 in hand on average after our first draw.
My second choice would be the Baloths just to get another creature.
Yeah, I hadn't really considered how useful the Academy would be with the Orb out. That pushes it over for me.
I tend to run most of the 2-mana burn I draft in R/x decks, and am rarely sad to have it. But you're right, we might need the Baloths more, depending what comes up.

Toms, happy I could sway you to swap.
I never mind filling up my deck with burn but would rather go for the theme if I can. But I think I focus too much on the smaller 2 card combos too often in cube and end up with only one side of them.
I'm a big fan of redundancy. So I'll always root for the fifth piece of ramp, the twelfth artifact, etc. If anything, I have the opposite problem. I was so worried about not getting artifact creatures that I passed on SotF, when we have FTK in our deck :-\
