Hi all,
this is somewhat of a continuing problem for red multiplayer in general, so we'll drag it kicking and screaming into Multiplayer Cube discussion.
Red's good creatures generally fall into one of two categories - Goblins and big, flying gorillas (usually Dragons). Goblins, and their related RDW brothers, are generally good in 1v1 play, but fall flat on their face in Multiplayer. I don't know of anyone who's built a successful Multiplayer Goblin deck - inevitably, they take out one player, and then run out of steam, overpowered by the remaining decks at the table and frustrated by a lack of card draw once their hand has initially been emptied.
In Multiplayer Cube, the big, flying gorillas are still fine, but we run into problems about 3CC and down. Roughly half the cards played in these slots in an average non-Multiplayer 360 Cube fall into this category. Goblin Guide, Jackal Pup, Reckless Waif, Goblin Patrol and Stormblood Berserkers are all pretty much unplayable in a Multiplayer environment. Mogg Fanatic, Ember Hauler, Plated Geopede and Hellspark Elemental are all line-ball.
So... what do we run here? Do we just increase the curve out of sight and let red sit around for three turns and burn things?
My Cube is currently running:
I am only truly happy with about half of these cards. The Tribal Elemental cards have been well received and play strongly (hooray for surprise Verdant Forces and Hateflayers via the Soulstoke!), and the Pyromancer, Mauler and Heretic are decent. But the rest is just filling the curve ATM. Grim Lavamancer, Kargan Dragonlord and Greater Gargadon are about the only cards I am currently not running that I should probably be attempting to swap in.
Thoughts?
Try small creatures that deal damage to all creatures, such as Bloodfire Dwarf.
In our playgroup, Dwarven Vigilantes is such a political card that is a repeatable source of creature removal. (Its just a coincidence that they are both dwarves)
