I think I'd rather run him than SSS who's a house but not really needed with the high quality mono color (or colorless) finishers we have these days. And you got the name wrong, it ends in Trest.
It's Trest. And he's good. He gives you tons of value with all your smaller creatures, and can get out of hand the second he resolves in the right situation. One of my favorite Simic cards.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less." -Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass
To those worried that he's not the absolute most powerful Simic card: he's just so much more unique than either Mystic Snake or Simic Sky Swallower--both of which basically involve nothing more than adding green to Dismiss and Sphinx of Jwar Isle, respectively. That uniqueness should make him an include over the arguably slightly stronger other two cards.
The nicest thing about Edric is that he himself doesn't need to attack to get the card drawing advantage, he can just sit back while Mr. Shadow and Mrs. Flying gather up your card advantage.

I don't really agree with this. I think Edric is powerful, but he's not any more unique than the other two cards are. Mystic Snake is not Dismiss. Being attached to a stick allows for all kinds of abuse and additional value not available to the mono-colored version, not including just the value of the body itself. It's board development and a counterspell instead of a simple cantrip. Simic Sky Swallower is not Sphinx of Jwar Isle. The trample is a huge deal, as is the +1/+1 (and the ability to be targeted by Natural Order and GSZ).
Snake is to Dismiss as Sky Swallower is to Sphinx as Edric, Spymaster of Trest is to Tandem Lookout. All of them are legitimate upgrades over the mono-colored variants that make them each unique, powerful and justified in their own ways.
I agree with WTW on this one. Snake is a lot of fun to abuse with Crystal Shard and Erratic Portal. SSS is just a lot of fun to ramp to. Trygon Predator is so darn useful in a cube full of sword and nasty enchantments. UG has a deep bench. I wish my UW was so lucky.

There are 4 very strong cards in UG, and I don't fault anybody for running any combination of them if they only have 2 or 3 slots available. I could see arguments for any combination of choices. Luckily when you have 4 slots available, you can use the entire suite.
I'm really tempted to try this over the Simic Signet. He's currently nested all comfy-like in my Momir Vig EDH deck. I'd hate to uproot him, but I'm starting to think my cube would welcome him warmly.

I think that U/G would be better served by Edric than another ramp spell (the signet), which most green sections already have in abundance.
I prefer SSS because it is both castable and rapes when being cheated into play via reanimation or other means. Its more flavorful and provides a bit more diversity to the guild.
I can actually get behind that. I can understand what a fattie is in terms of a magic card, and it's exactly that. On the other hand, Edric is pretty flavorful too. He turns all your creatures into spies, making you gain information whenever a creature successfully gets in the opponent's base.
Not sure which is better. Depends on whether you want your Simic decks to be midrange-y durdly or have another reanimation/ramp fattie.
Specialities about the cube: U tempo, B aggro, R slow-ish are supported. G aggro is not.
Currently trying to support tokens in all colors but blue, in different ways: W pumps them, B sacrifices them, R suicides them, G has decent-sized ones.

I think the Spymaster also works well in tempo-based decks. I don't think they are universally supported by everyone, but most people include the best tempo blue cards like Man-o'-War and Phantasmal Image. I think the deck can be pretty good, and green can offer some decent additions, like Tarmogoyf or other aggro creatures. Anyway, in a deck like that Edric can be a worthwhile addition.
Edric is great in a lot of decks. I like giving extra value to my mana elves in midrange, and he's a great tempo creature (even though UG tempo isn't commonly played).
Edric might edge out Mystic Snake for some in a very tight UG section but Simic Sky Swallower should never be cut. SSS is a very reliable and efficient win condition. It also supports ramp, reanimator, NO, and GSZ. Flying and trample = gdlk.

He makes a pretty sweet commander too.
Bingo.
Edric is also a boss at giving you gas while you lay the beatdown. That's quite a ridiculous combination.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Edric is absolutely nasty. In any deck with a high enough creature count (thanks green!) it'll be stellar. It even adds a ton of value to mana dorks for the later stages of the game.
But even more ideally are the tempo shells. He really shines there.
How have you guys found him?
I've liked him a lot in our tempo decks when he shows up.
He makes a pretty sweet commander too.
