If we're wishing could it be UW? I don't know if UW is better, but since the UW gold cards are ass it would be a huge step up regardless.
Agreed there. Plus, it'd hit Swords, PtE, Tithe, Land Tax, Enlightened Tutor...
TBH, I think they went to create it at 2cc and figured out UG was the least-broken colour combination they could put it at.
Eh it's still fairly easy to make your deck to maximise his value though. It's not like all of your targets have to be ****ty green things you don't want. Hitting a Bonesplitter or Skullclamp would be really nice for example.
I honestly don't think it's that hard to have a deck where you'd be happy to have pretty much anything you'd hit on the cascade with this guy, even in Blue and Green. He's a 2-mana bear, getting anything is pretty good value when you think about it.
Not cubable though IMO. It could be a powerhouse in pauper or C/U cubes, but it's too close to a Surveilling Sprite to actually do work in a rare cube.
I would trust the rumours in general, my store got the product about a week ago.
but it's too close to a Surveilling Sprite to actually do work in a rare cube
He's far, far better than the sprite. He trades with anything in combat, and draws a card on ETB rather than on death. That's a massive difference. Plus he can be sacked for Tinker, UB being a common artifact build. I won't be running him in my three card seciton, but he's a lot better than he looks. He's a great 'free' defensive creature in U/B.
So the cascade guy costs 1UG? That doesn't make him strictly worse, but I'm unconvinced about it being cubeable (in a three card section) at that cost. UG would still be really good.
Mana Rock
Artifact
: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
: Roll the planar die.
I could see adding this to the draft pool when we're drafting Planechase Cube. It's so good in that format.
This. At 2 mana it's fine because the chance of hitting a counterspell is minimal. At 3 there are way too many counters I can hit. Although hitting a Spell Snare in older formats would be ironic and hilarious.
Wow, that card sure went from awesome to crap quickly.
I know.
UB 2/2 Cascade?!! I can hit all kinds of sick black spells and 1cc black aggro creatures for my UB tempo decks!
UG 2/2 Cascade! I trade out my 2-power beaters and Thoughtsiezes for Mana Elves, which is fine, because it can't really miss. Wish it was black, or not blue.
1UG 2/2 Cascade. Well, now it whiffs with over half my 1/2cc spells that will make the cut in every blue deck I play.
Not sure if I like it better than what I'd cut for it (namely UB Tezz.) She is pretty much a variant on Sun Quan, Lord of Wu trading making the creatures easier to block with it giving life loss triggering on creatures leaving play and there are a lot of small guys that stick around in the late game, as Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Massacre Wurm have taught us.
I'm still skeptical on its power level but I may just need more time to digest it.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

It's an interesting card, but it definitely isn't as good as UB Tezz. It's a reasonable comparison to Oona, though I think Oona is still probably better.
it passes the terminate test but a 4/4 with ok evasion isn't great for 4UB. i don't feel like UB is hurting for cards, either.
It barely passes the terminate test. 1 point of life loss isn't that exciting. The cards worth considering especially if you run larger gold sections, but it's effect will have to be from it sticking on the board.

If this guy actually costs UB he's pretty good.

"New card with cascade is a 2/2 for 1GU"
I will definitely run it in my 5 card gold section.

That is a bummer:-/ Not sure if he is better then Edric at that cost.
I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
I won't play it if it costs 3 and is in a blue combination. Cascading into counterspells is a bust.
This deal's getting worse all the time.

Sigh. Pretty much what I expected from third-hand information. I dont need a Gray Ogre that can cascade into a counterspell.

Krond is too restrictively costed in the most competitive section. Also he needs to stick for a turn.
For anyone else who ever cubes with Planes, we have our Golgari plane that gives stuff in the GY dredge. That's so, so busted in the cube.
On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
It does? It seems like a 6cc multicolor Bellowing Tanglewurm. In a color combination that probably wants it less than all the other ones.
PASS.
