It can be similar in function, even if Wildfire decks themselves aren't supported. It's more of a build-around midrange card than a control card. But it can function as a playable card for control decks too.
Catastrophe is a really powerful card that wound up being a little awkward for us. Control decks don't really like blowing up lands. It can work when you are ahead of course, but removal is so good these days that isn't always true. And when it's not true, every other deck tends to recover faster than a control deck. Just to illustrate, how many cubes are running Desolation Angel these days? For 1 more mana, you get a 5/4 flying angel plus the armageddon effect. I've lost games after resolving Desi. Not very many of course, but it has happened.
So Catastrophe often ends up being a no-frills overcosted wrath a lot of times. It's playable but not great in that capacity.
If you have a lot of non-land mana sources or decks like that which want white as a color, this may very well have a really good home though. That isn't a deck I think I've seen come together so can't really talk to it.

This is why I'm not a fan of Armageddons attached to creatures since they're easy to remove at instant speed and can lead to very awkward scenarios. Catastrophe works extremely well with planeswalkers as finishers since they're extremely difficult to remove at instant speed.

I see Catastrophe as a build your own Wildfire that you can use in more scenarios than Wildfire itself. Wrath when you're losing, Armageddon to seal the deal.

I did too except it didn't ever seem to play that way. But I'm not running walkers, so I can see how that setup would be more of a sure thing since you are getting a very hard to deal with permanent with repeatable value. Desolation Angel is all-in in a risky way since if they have a cheap answer, you probably just lose.
How do we feel about Catastrophe in 2019? I'm finding the cube environment has gotten quite a bit faster in the last few years, to the point where a six-mana wrath is often too little, too late. I like that it adds more redundancy to the wildfire archetype though, albeit in a different and less one-sided way.
Thanks for the feedback folks. Sounds like I should keep it in my 540. Some players were suggesting it was a little too slow... perhaps I will try to make a point of drafting it and proving them wrong.
It's not the fastest card in the world, and it can't replace 4cc wraths for control decks or anything like that for that very reason. But it's a powerful card and provide unique options in that slot for a lot of midrange builds.
A modal wrath/armageddon is still insanely good. Granted it is not the wrath you want against aggro, but for decks that can survive to the 6th land drop this is a great card. I have a 460 card unpowered cube (450 transitioning to a 500) and it continues to impress.
