I may actually cut Loam Lion for the Wurm. The reason being that I have a hell of a lot of good one drops across the colours, particularly in white, but the only six mana creature good enough was Sun Titan. I feel like I need another finisher more than the one drop, as it stands. Pridemage and Knight of the Reliquary aren't up for cutting right now.
So how is Sigarda doing for you? Sigarda, to me, seems like a control card in non control colors. It's not splashable becuase it takes 3 colored mana(which honestly isn't that different than the 4 mana considering which color gets added (the fixing color).
I guess my point is: What decks are playing Sigarda, and do you think those decks would NOT play Armada Wurm?
Cubes differ, even if their general structure looks similar. Playgroups and their preferences differ, too. A card that looks great in one midsized unpowered cube may not be liked in another. I think that Armada Wurm is a very powerful creature, but I don't think that it would play well in my cube for the following reasons:
- Most GW decks in my cube are aggro decks and those don't want to run a 6-drop.
- Most control decks in my cube don't have green as one of their main colors, making a card with GG in its cost very hard to cast.
- Most green ramp decks in my cube don't have white as one of their main colors, making a card with WW in its cost hard to cast.
This means that Armada Wurm will have a hard time finding a home and I don't think that a single card - even if it is as powerful as a Grave Titan - will change my players' drafting habits. So I could change the environment a bit by adding most of the cards that go well with the Wurm (Birthing Pod, Green Sun's Zenith, Natural Order), which I am not currently running. Or I could just leave the Wurm out and cube with a card that has already proven itself or one that will fit the typical GW decks better.
The difference between the Wurm and Sigarda, Host of Herons is that a powerful 5-drop can be squeezed into an aggro deck, whereas running a 6-drop in such a deck would be a little bit too ambitious. And while GG would be hard to splash into the typical non-green control deck, splashing a card with a single G in its cost is much easier and can be accomplished by the lands and a Signet or two alone.
That said, I think I will try Knight of the Reliquary in place of Sigarda soon. Knight fits even better into an aggro curve and is a more interesting card than both the Angel and the Wurm.
I solved that fight by playing both and cutting Loam Lion. Much easier for those of us who don't push green aggro
This is what I am talking about. Loam Lion is probably the greatest Selesnya card in my cube and I would never even consider cutting it. At least not as long as white is a great and green is a decent aggro color in my cube. In your cube - without green aggro support - it is less of a staple though and you have no problems cutting it. On the flipside, Armada Wurm is great for your slower GW decks. Since those decks rarely come together in my cube, it would be much worse there than an aggressive guy like the Lion though. The environment influences how desirable a card is for a certain cube. It has to be taken into account when a cube owner decides if he wants to include a new card into it.
Another analogy would be Geist of Saint Traft. He is certainly great if you support blue aggro/tempo. I don't and the majority of WU decks are control in my cube, so I rather leave him out in favour of cards like Supreme Verdict and Absorb.
I've found that Selesnaya aggro is a fairly difficult deck to put together, as white doesn't have as much removal as red/black and green has none. I support it, but it seems 4 times out of 5 when someone builds Selesnaya in my cube it's a midrange deck. Random observation.
For what it's worth I'm playing Armada Wurm and its a monster.
WG ramp comes together in my cube all the time (it does decently but usually doesn't win the day). It's pretty fun to mana-elf into Elesh Norn or a T5 Hornet Queen with Ajani Goldmane in play.
I'm going to try out the Wurm and think it will be great for me. It's great for ramp, midrange, reanimator, Sneak Attack, and Natural Order.
I had thought about taking Kitchen Finks and Dryad Militant out of my guild section recently. If I did so, I would cut 1 green and 1 white and take both out (1/2 white and 1/2 green each - I would want to take both or none out).
I ultimately didn't because I didn't have two G/W cards I would want to add in to replace them anyway. The reason it came up at all is because I've noticed W/X or G/X (where X is not G or W) decks are perfectly happy to 'steal' Finks or Militant (like Boros aggro is perfectly happy playing Militant), and they're pretty playable in those decks (as opposed to say Figure of Destiny, which is probably unplayable in a R/X deck where X != W).
Heh, Mirari's Wake actually seems pretty sweet (and I feel fits the kind of G/W decks we see around here) - I want a non-foil modern bordered copy of it though (crazy arbitrary cube rules whee...).
As an aside, the other guild where I could see doing something similar is Rakdos, where there's Rakdos Cackler, Rakdos Shred-Freak, and Murderous Redcap, all of which R/-B or B/-R (where -X is not color X) decks are happy to 'steal' (Rakdos Shred-Freak perhaps slightly less so - double-red or double-black when you're not Rakdos can be a little rough).
I feel like the trade-off between keeping them where they are and moving them is that by moving them into mono-colors the cards in your cube are a little more difficult to cast - you've replaced mono-colored cards with gold cards. But I'd also like to give my guilds a little more of an identity, and reward players for going into colors - which is sad if someone keeps stealing my sweet one-drops.

I feel it's actually pretty fair because by cutting one red card you get a crack at two hybrid 'red' cards. Even if one is stolen the other could be available.
When I reorder my sections BR, GW, and RG were the sections with good enough hybrids to warrant expansion of the guild section. WB too if you classify Lingering Souls and Unburial Rites together as two 'hybrid' cards (debatable)
Yes it is, lol. I don't have said option, because we play a ton of W/G aggro.

Have any of you fit him in your cubes by simply classifying him as a green 1 drop?

I classified her as a White 1-drop.

MUHAHAAAAAA!
I also put Finks into green. It fits better there.

You wouldn't want to add in Sigarda, Host of Herons or, more importantly, Mirari's Wake?!

I forgot about Sigarda...the other ones I thought of were Armada Wurm and Gavony Township. Ultimately, they have to be better than the 1 G and 1 W card I'm going to end up cutting though (maybe River Boa and Akroma's Vengeance/Temporal Isolation).
I must ponder it...
