The four casting cost green section shall henceforth be known as the "screw you red aggro section": Phantom Centaur, Thrun, Obstinate Baloth, this jerk, Garruk W and R, and natural order.
Well, at first they had add only one plain, so I thought "it's 4 instead of 3, so it's a real card, I won't get surprised by lands like numerous time before".
Then I click, scroll, and discover they added a single plain....
C'MON dude, are you kidding me ? è_é
I did some testing on it and I've been impressed by it so far. I think that this card is somewhat analogous to cards like Firebolt, which looks suboptimal on both the casting side and "flashback", but the total package makes it very good (this isn't a perfect analogy, since you can't do the trick to where you can cast + flashback it like with cards like Firebolt.) Although few people use cards like Plague Sliver and Juzam Djinn (let's be honest, the drawback on Plague/Juzam was nearly irrelevant,) the same argument could be said that a sorcery-speed Shock is abysmal by cube standards; saying "Well, no one plays Juzam anymore, so why play this?" is a disingenuous comparison.
That being said,a 4 mana 5/5 is still very good and above the curve and especially if it's powered out with a mana dork on turn 3, the opponent will usually have to deal with it ASAP, which feeds into its Scavenge ability.
Its scavenge ability, while expensive, has almost always been something useful since it works so well with either mana guys or 187 guys like Indrik Stomphowler, Uktabi Orangutan and Skinrender and the threat of being able to turn a elf into a guy that can trade with a Titan (even at sorcery speed) is something the opponent needs to keep in mind when it's in the grave. There are also nice graveyard interactions, as I found when I talked to Kenny (darkmindtone) about it - it works very well with Survival of the Fittest/Fauna Shaman/Living Death/Gifts Ungiven, etc.
I have no idea where it ranks in the grand scheme of 4 drops, but I have been very impressed.
Sounds about right. I think this guy's kinda straightforward to evaluate, and I'll be making room for a trial run. I'm kinda short on four mana facebeaters in green, despite five being stacked. Cheers Usman!
Let's hope for some reasonably costed scavenge beaters. It's a dream ability for aggro if the cost can be kept to 4 or less mana.
Rumor mill says hybrid mana has been confirmed for RtR! :cheer:
That's some serious potential for cube level cards right there.
And shocks are all but in. I'll be very happy to have a large quantity of those hitting the market. This set will be drafted so much its not even fun. I think most will go down even though Standard will be using them for a while.
Maro explicitly mentioned some weeks ago on his tumblr that reprints in expert expansions ALWAYS have new art and that thry don't plan to change that soon.

I haven't used the Baloth in a while, and am in the process of cutting Blastoderm (and another card not in this list) in favor of Yeva and Master of the Wild Hunt.

No Oracle of Mul Daya? That is the first 4 drop I would be adding if I went back up to 450 in my cube. I've had so many good experiences with him. Sorry her, have to be correct about this.
It looks like that Game Day full art promo common/uncommon that they do is a vanilla 2/1 for :symwg:. In that case, I wanna be playing the hell out of that card. But G/W is really tight, so how's this for an idea of structuring?
That seems like a fair method for getting all the good cards in GW at the expense of the worst card in G and W, respectively. You could do this for any section which has an even amount of good hybrids. Another good R/B hybrid could mean moving that and Murderous Redcap in place of one black and one red card. That means getting Blightning back in The only time this would be unfair is for something like Firespout, which is of limited use for one side.

This is an interesting idea - I've always felt weird about hybrids being in the same section as multicolors. I'm curious what other people think of this...
All we know for sure is there'll be a promo creature costing :symwg:.
And that it has most likely no rules text... only flavor text. And that it is an uncommon. And that Elite Vanguard wasn't in the base set this time. All of this makes a vanilla 2/1 for (G/W) very likely.
Looks like Armadillo Cloak will be finally pushed out of my cube. A few of my friends will be very sad about this.

All this. It's safe to say it's not a 1/1 or 2/2. I hope we're right.

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating creating a hybrid section unless every pair gets a minimum number of good hybrids. It's just a suggestion where you have a guild like GW with lots and lots of good gold cards AND an even number (2 or 4) hybrids. For example, If a super R/W hybrid is printed, we could cut a white card, a red card, put Figure of Destiny and the new guy in that imaginary space, and reinstate Lightning Helix alongside Ajani and Stronghold in the RW 'gold' section.
I've nothing against hybrids being with the gold cards, just suggesting a solution for some cases that doesn't break any symmetry or put one colour at a disadvantage.
I love that creature. I'll probably axe Sigarda for it. Or I'll cut some cards from various sections and create a hybrid section.
I remember the original hybrid section debate. Let's not go there...
I can't bring myself to cut Sigarda. It's her 100% win rate so far and the beautiful art. Loam Lion's currently sitting it out for me, which I'm unhappy about, so this new guy gives me a perfect chance to bring him back into the fold whilst retaining the others. I'm sure I can find one cut each in white and green to take the slack.
Fixed.

If this is the case (and I think it will be), I'm also looking forward to the "which art is best" discussions for the shocklands.
I dunno, four mana is pretty stacked.
1 Yeva, Nature's Herald
1 Blastoderm
1 Phantom Centaur
1 Master of the Wild Hunt
1 Thrun, the Last Troll
1 Vengevine
1 Wickerbough Elder
1 Obstinate Baloth
I haven't used the Baloth in a while, and am in the process of cutting Blastoderm (and another card not in this list) in favor of Yeva and Master of the Wild Hunt.
