I'm interested in bumping my count of Dimir cards to 3. I'm currently considering Baleful Strix as the third card, but it seems to me that Dimir cards are somewhat underwhelming.

my guys have a lot of fun with Oona. She's never really difficult to cast, and she wins plenty of games. playing the faerie lottery with her is pretty entertaining, as well.
I'm currently running 4 cards in my 630 cube (I don't run signets or lands in their multicolor sections):
Psychatog
Shadowmage Infiltrator
Oona, Queen of the Fae
Evil Twin
The last one on the list is a little bit out there, but he's been great. We love us some clones in our playgroup (there's a bunch in my cube), and the ability to kill the original creature is boss. (Also tech if he copies a persist/undying creature, kills himself, and comes back as a different creature.)
I haven't got my hands on a Baleful Strix yet, that would probably find its way in if I got one. UB Tezzeret isn't what I'm looking for as I'm not currently supporting a Big Artifact strategy.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my Dimir section, but still excited to see how Gatecrash will shake up my cube.
I am a big fan of the twin as well. He doesn't fit for most because he is gold but I would run him over many of the lesser choices like forbidden alchemy.
I think his profile was just too low, as Phantasmal Image were and the Metamorph were wrecking standard at the time.
That said I think the Squarebob might edge him out for me.
No mention of the Keyrune or its rank? I don't know if anyone would object to calling it the best of the keyrunes. It gives you fixing in the midgame and inevitability in the late game, something most Dimir control decks and artifact decks would love to have.
It just doesn't bring the same power value that a Signet does. Ramping from 2 to 4 in the cube is insane. Ramping from 3 to 5 in the cube isn't nearly as powerful. It's the best of the Keyrunes, but that's not saying much, unfortunately.

I dunno, man. They've been printing some insane five drops in the last couple years. We've gotten Thragtusk, Thundermaw Hellkite, Vorapede, Wolfir Silverheart, Sigarda, Host of Herons, Vraska the Unseen and now Obzedat, Ghost Council. These guys dominate the field when they come out, and we've had a ton of games revolve around landing and protecting these critters, and consequently valuing them over most of the four drops floating around. So getting them a turn earlier when your opponent's still casting four drops seems like a big deal.
Unfortunately, none of the five drops above are in Dimir colors, but I think the idea is still sound

But a Signet also gets you to your 5-drop at the same speed the Keyrune does, but the Key costs more mana and loses the ability to ramp into your 4 drop.

The Keyrune is much worse for ramping... but it's an unblockable dude too. That's a huge upside. They don't even really do the same thing in a single deck. I'd happily run both. Unfortunatly, I have space for neither.
I don't support Artifact.dec or UB beatdown, which excludes Tezzeret and Duskmantle Seer. Psychatog was in my Cube for 5 years (2002-2007) and never did anything relevant.
That's close to how I feel. Tog, despite its cultural impact has been weakened over time. Morphling effect in my opinion. I would go broker from GTC over probe. I gotta test her out. She looks like the one sided draw card I want. The 4/4 double bob (you and opponents get bob effects) doesn't rub me the right way.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.

I disagree - I think that the RB one is the strongest out of context, and that the GW one is the strongest in cube because it's really useful to be able to profitably block with them.
After Gatecrash limps in, my Dimir section will be exactly the same.
I'm trying to add something to my Dimir section of cube to go along with Pyschatog and Recoil. I don't like Baleful Strix because I feel that card is overpriced. I also though of playing Finkel but everyone plays him. I feel like the U/B section of the cube doesn't have many good cards. Most people will end up playing the same 3 or 4 cards. Some guilds such as Golgari are stacked with good cards. Some guilds have as many as 8-10 cards that could be played. I thought of Havengul Lich but I don't think he is good enough. I don't see anything really good in Gatecrash for dimir. I guess Dimir Charm could be a possibility? I also thought of Nightveil Specter but he seems like an average creature. He doesn't seem like anything super special.
Shadowmage Infiltrator
Tezzeret Agent of Bolas
Baleful Strix
Duskmantle Seer
Duskmantle Seer is insane, not only is it have evasion and a huge body (which dodges nearly all burn) it draws you cards! I love UB counter beats and this is the better Bloodgift Demon.
Also who cares if your opponent draws cards? You're playing blue.
I'm a fan of neither but in any case OH MY GOD YOUR CUBE SPREADSHEET IS CRAZY
Seriously though, my advice is to cut Oona and Nemesis and add Duskmantle Seer and Dimir Charm with the next set. If you don't like either of those, try Recoil. If you don't like Recoil, Probe is a decent shout.

But if you're hard in on Artifact.dec, then:
Tezz 2
Strix
Signet
Keyrune
is a legitimate U/B section.

However, none are particularly good.

So? There's a reason for that.
Do what's best for your playgroup. Don't exclude good cards just because they're popular. That makes no sense.
