Well after Xenagos I was tempted to call this the party set, but with all the 1 drops we actually have reason to celebrate.
I think I might be replacing fireslinger with this guy. Spikeshot is too good, and Stromkirk and Waif feel good enough in a non-powered environment. When have a full table we generally see 3 Aggro, 2 mid range, and 2 control, 1 combo. But the problem is that 2 of those aggro decks are turn out kind of bad mid range/aggro. I have had tried to repump the creature % multiple times, decrease planeswalkers and a few other tricks. But I think what is going to really do it is the critical mass of one drops.
Awesomesauce
Oh and I think I might do my first alter with this card. This pup needs a drink.
Spikeshot has just been too expensive to activate and is unequipped too often to be worth it. I'm cutting it even though it's a one drop because I don't think it's helping aggressive decks very much.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

This was our experience at 360 as well. He would end up not making the cut too often.
What I like about Spikeshot is that he's not dead in the late-game and that he messes up combat math. I don't think that I'm ready to cut it just yet. The card that hasn't impressed me is Fire Imp; there have been plenty of times where it's sat in my hand because there were no targets on the other side of the board, and he would just kill one of my dudes (or himself!). That may be my cut for the Firedrinker.
Personally, I think I might be cutting Mogg Fanatic. He has been extremely underwhelming lately, only good when you can sac him to kill a mana dork, or a shadow creature. A one mana dork shock is not what my aggro decks want, nor my big red decks. I'd always rather have Torch Fiend.
I wouldn't want to give them too much credit, but I'm starting to think Wizards did this on purpose. Get Vorthos excited by the backstory and God teasers, early spoiler Monstrosity for Timmy and other "exciting" spoilers to generate hype and excitement... then they have a slow release of spoilers covering a wide range of interests for different players (though Johnny seems to be left out a bit this season) for the normals...
And then they actually saved the cube and limited cards for later, because, as we've seen, the "normals" aren't interested in these at all, but there's no backlash because those players are already focused on Thessa and the (good) new planeswalker. They say "2/1 with downside? Sucks!" and move on while cubers have been patiently waiting for the crumbs and instead get thrown a steak.
That is not a drawbackless 2/2 for one though. I would play it if it were... but it can't hold any equipment at all or even a Rancor, which totally sucks for aggro.
I'm a bit hesitant to add a 2 power one drop for blue, even with an upside. All 4 of the other colors do that already and there's just too many important midrange/control/archetype enablers to make room. Plus the density is just not there.

Even if they printed 6 2/1's for U without any drawbacks I wouldn't put them in my cube. I like blue tempo decks but I don't really want blue aggro decks.
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

Man this card is so good. Not only is it a Jackal Pup, but the ability to pump the power is insane. He can get in for 3+ on an open board, and force trades with X/3 creatures in combat if the need arises. And he can punch through Wall of Blossoms/Omens/Roots (and the new Caryatid) like a champ. Just an outstanding creature.
This set is just a wet-dream for cube lol. Auto-include. OMFG. Biggest question is cuts. I know wtwlf123 says Waif gets the boot but she's been alright by me. He is definitely an upgrade over her but I'm debating about "add another 1 drop" vs "upgrade your 1 drop".

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.

Yeah, I think this guy comes in right behind Goblin Guide in the "Best Red One-Drop" competition.
Man I hope we still get a steady set of one drops in the next two sets, and that this is not just all of them. Either way go go aggro!
Playing Tattermunge Maniac in my 450, it's pretty solid plus it can be played in green. Defiantly recommend if you're looking for more 1 drops. Sure it might have been bad last time you played it but remember you have a ton more 1 drops than you used to.
Last night my friend drafted Wb aggro and went 2-0. 6 white one drops and a lot of the support. It was so sweet to see a well oiled machine with the main engine being all the 2/xs for W.
A year or two from now 450 cubes will be playing all killer no filler. Love it, always dreamed of this time in cube.
Then I'll be dreaming for when black gets better creatures.
I agree more or less with your order for red 1 drops for mono r, but overall I think gargadon would be my first choice for red in general.
Great in so many archetypes , very synergistic with many cards in cube. many interactive skill based gameplay decisions, persistant sac outlet and all the gameplay that comes with that.

On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
You probably should, but to be fair he is underwhelming in a lot of games.

Stonewright has been on the bubble at 600 and I'll gladly welcome this cutie in.
They already have a 2/2.

As an aggro-pusher, I'm glad they are giving us these sweet cardboards.

I think stromkirk is actually very good. Red has nowhere near the number of guys like this that you can afford to exclude him.
Cut fanatic a while back, never missed him.
I don't think he said that ...? Unless you mean "at an unspecified time in the future."
