she will be cheap and she is a cool card. I wouldnt mind chucking her in for a cubing or two, its not like she couldn't make a maindeck. I would easily maindeck this card. On her second turn she can probably eek out some card advantage.
Fk it, I'm gonna say I might try it. Her + is a better mill, her - can do big things if her + hits something good but otherwise she can continue milling(without the drawback of filling the yard) Her + adds a decent amount of pressure and in a blue black deck can be a win condition. I think she looks really weak upon first glance but so did elspeth and now im excited about this card.
She appeals to the timmy in me. She can do such amazing things, but she can also be murdered her first turn out and only milling 3.
She can do such amazing things, but she can also be murdered her first turn out and only milling 3.
And also likely gaining you 5 life in the process from creatures that aren't hitting you. For a UB deck that sounds pretty good. I think this card is quite good in control mirrors, and I like that its cheap, comes down early and seems very innocuous initially.
even against aggro, it will probably live through aggros onslaught and give you one of aggros own creatures to defend against it, or gain you 5 life.
WotC did walkers Right this set, I'm almost not even mad that the 56th gruul walker came out before kiora.
ashiok is cool chick. Black blue done nice and proper. Although i don't know that she's great at defending herself... but i mean if you're playing her you should be playing control with kill spells out the ass. Once we get that black board wipe (crossing fingers) esper will be restored to its rightful place at the top of the control pedestal
I'm thinking she's unique and can't really say what a Millstonewalker will be like before I test her out. The nice thing is at >540 Dimir gets pretty shaky for cards in my opinion so it should be easy to find a spot.
Right now, I just like to get black planeswalker. I don't care about Planeswalker of any other color anymore. That, and multicolor planeswalker. Just keep bringing those in!
I actually think this walker is sweet for Cube but I think Cubes will have trouble finding space for it. My current Dimir suite is Tog/Strix/Duskmantle Seer/Shadowmage. Is it better than any of those? My first instinct tells me "no" but I think it definitely merits testing. It fails the Terminate (O-Ring?) test pretty badly but if it gets attacked by the aggro deck then it saves 5 life which is pretty sweet. I'm not a probability expert but the odds are good of hitting at least 1 creature if they're running 13+. In my Cube about 88% of my creatures cost 5 or less which means if the walker isn't damaged that I could minus the second turn it's out (if I felt like I had to) more often than not. I'm sure eidolon can chime in with some exact numbers here.
It doesn't affect the board which is a huge negative & is a factor which has been the downfall of previous walkers that ended up being unCubeable. However I will give this one a shot to see if it deserves to be at least the 5th Dimir card if not better.
If I'm playing aggro and she drops, I think I just swing at the opponent who wasted their third turn and win turn 4/5. Maybe they get a blocker out of her turn 4 if they are lucky. If they are still alive turn 5 they probably get something. Still not impressive IMO.

Definitely an interesting card and makes me really want to help support mill in my Cube. If I did (I never heard anybody that does unfortunately), I would play this card in a heartbeat but sadly I'm not.
Also, is it just me or does she have the worst Ultimate ever.

Ignore the ultimate. As you tick up your second ability becomes an ultimate.
Protects herself turn after she comes out probably...
I think it's forgotten in the discussion about the aggro vs control matchup that this walker actually is very good in the control vs control matchup. Ticking two up a turn from very early on, with little protection this can win by itself.
It's almost like a vs control-only Jace, Memory Adept. If you don't stop the +2, you'll lose your hand and graveyard, which is probably going to cost you the game anyway.
Number-wise, played on turn 3 she ultimates in 5 activations (kills in 7-8), which is the same turn jace would empty the library. So not as powerful objectively, but still quite strong.
I think this is unplayable in cube. Doesn't protect itself, two abilities that may not impact the game at all. good in the control mirror, I guess, although it's pretty much a one ability walker there.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
It's probably decent, given that exiling cards is good against a cube deck containing 1-of toolbox effects, and she should be able to return something useful the next turn. I just like a LOT of Dimir options much better, and I wouldn't see a potential opening for it with less than 8 or 9 cards in that section.
If you don't exile a creature small enough to use, which depends on luck and your opponents deck, you may end up with nothing to show for your investment. And once you exile a creature your opponent has a turn to plan for it. The exiling isn't a positive unless they lose from it, so it functions merely as a forced suspend for the - ability in every matchup outside of very slow control.

Great art! I think it's well worth looking at her cost. Three cost planeswalkers need careful observation. PWs have such a huge effect on the game that any time you are getting them for 3, they are worth a close look. I'd like to at least try her out. As others have mentioned, she may not be great against aggro, who can just swing around her. Against control, however, she could be tough. I don't run Strix, so maybe Away (Far/Away) can bow out for a little to give her a shot?

That's not universally true, and certainly not for this card. It doesn't affect anything unless you exile a key card (if your opponent's deck lacks redundancy, and this is unlikely) and it takes another turn to potentially get a creature. In that case, I'd probably rather just play a creature instead of Ashiok. I like Far//Away a lot more. It's more versatile, and is good in more than one matchup.
I think she's fine against midrange too, to be honest. Aggro will eat her quite badly, though. So that's why I don't think she make it into 360. Maybe 720? I'm not too sure.
I can't decide if this is #6 or #7 (excluding mana rocks) for me in the Dimir section. It's a fun and flavorful card with a cool ability, but I think it's simply outclassed in its color combination.

I don't think there are many universal truths, at least in Magic. Some of the other 3-cost PWs are weak, but as I said, they're worth at least a close look. I don't think this new PW is amazing, but she's kind of interesting. You're probably right that Far/Away is better!
Right now I'm running Far/Away, 'Tog, Shadowmage, and Duskmantle. I'm liking my UB quite a bit, though I think I have less love for 'Tog than many do.
Maybe there's a room in big cube? Not beating Tog or Shadowmage or Strix, for sure, I think.

I run Strix/Duskmantle/Shadowmage right now. I might consider Duskmantle for her. I'll have to see.

+2 doesnt effect the board, only matters if it exiles a creature AND you pretty much have to sac the planeswalker to cast the creature?
Not all decks are creature based decks, the ones that are either agro (oooo you spent 3 mana a card and 2 turns to cast a Steppe linx).
Or mid range/ramp, which can easily have cards that cost > 5 CMC and things like mana dorks which can be completly dead.
