I used to run both and they were both bad. Needing to tap means that you give your opponent time to react to your reanimation plan. They are also rather slow compared to the spell-based competition. Sitautions where having the effect on a creature was an addvantage rarely came up, and if it did tended either to be win-more or unhelpfully slow.
I´ve tried various reanimation spells over the years. I´ve even tried Body Snatcher. The only reanimation creatures worth cubing seem to be white.

I run Doomed Necromancer. Modern-frame non-foil only in my cube, so good reanimation spells are a little tough to come by. I've found it to be reasonably close in power to something like Makeshift Mannequin.

I found it to be much worse than Makeshift Mannequin, which I no longer run even though I promote reanimator in my cube. I can see how your restrictions make it difficult: all the best reanimation spells were printed when spells were real spells, rather than something you play because you can't quite find enough overpowered creatures to fill out your curve.

Don't like any of these cards, though.

Both are very much under construction. Please stop by and talk about it!
