I tried Quirion Dyrad for a while and it was prety meh. This can get big fast, and has the necessary trample. I just don't know if this is what I need for my green section. I do like it in a zoo build where you a dropping another creature and a piece of cheap removal on turn 4, and with the spell the opponent cast this is already a 5/5. But in green I am turning down 4 mana non-conditional 5/5s now.
Too easy to kill for too little impact for a 3-drop, IMO. You cast this turn 3, pass, they attack, this thing can't block unless it wants to trade with a one-drop, and then it dies to any burn spell or any removal spell. It's also horrendous against bounce and blink.
At 720, I still run Quirion Dryad and its still a good distance from the cutting board. I also have an "I can't believe its not storm" theme with stuff like Guttersnipe, Young Pyromancer, the good prowess dudes, etc. Even though the spells matter theme isn't in necessarily in green, ramp and recursion do help those kinds of decks and I am considering this as redundancy in that department.
I think because it triggers off of both you and your opponent, the power is sufficient for a 3drop. Might get bolted, but after a certain point it could just become a humongous threat. I think the major strike against it is just that it's a little bland.
I just cast this for the first time in a sealed game. My wife was playing UR tempo and didn't have a counter for this when it came down. Four turns later, she died to a 9/9 trampler. I was waiting for her to Bolt it with 2 counters on it. Would've laughed maniacally.
In this matchup, it felt better than Troll Ascetic. Trample is huge.

Some games it dies to literally everything, other games it can one-shot or at least be a massive beast. No matter what type of deck it's in, it's a realllllyyyyyyy swingy card, which is a bit of a turn off.
I recently removed storm support and this went along with it since it was decent there as an alt win con. I'm not against adding it back in, but eh it would take someone asking me or storm getting a ton more support. Could be good with climb, though.

Creature - Hydra [Rare]
Trample
Whenever a player casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Mana-Glutton Hydra.
1/1
While it may be vanilla, the trample makes it interesting. Not to mention it'll probably grow big quickly. Thoughts?
