So after Oath of the Gatewatch I will be up to 14 manlands! And my utility land count is as high as ever. Awaken as a mechanic seems very cubeable and is a design space wizards is working with. The lands matter deck continue to get support. Set after set I find increasing my land count to be valuable as it gives additional draft picks space in decks. But the question is: Do I need to reevaluate my dedicated answers for all these land cards. Normal kill spells take out most manlands but as with planeswalkers, some specific awnsers may be important.
Do we need up our answer counts? Does the incidental value of mana depriving someone make it more valuable? Is anyone running a land destruction theme anymore or is it a bad vibe for everyone? How are white and blue going to handle it? More bounce or blockers?
I'm probably going to re-test Faith's Fetters (been testing Quarantine Field in its place) at 540 once OGW comes out since it's one of the few cards that can deal with both a planeswalkers and a manland.
You could make an argument for Tectonic Edge even, if they prove to be problematic. Also, Powder Keg is a sweet colorless answer.
Powder keg is a good one (and I picked up the promo after true-name started casuing trouble) but it only hits the creatures. I recently added a library of alexandria, and that and maze of ith are frequent grown test cards.
I like techtonic edge but I wonder if my group will draft it as much as they need too. I'll probably try dustbowl first.
Dust Bowl is definitely preferable to the Tec Edge. And Keg only kills them in creature mode, but it does prevent them from activating which is just as important in a lot of cases.
If you're looking for an answer in white, you can try Kor Haven too. It's soft in the same way that Icy or Maze of Ith is, but post-Wrath it's still a way to keep a manland under control when it's a lone threat. Another answer in white to consider is Faith's Fetters. 4cc 1-for-1 removal has been largely phased out, but answering manlands is a unique effect that's becoming increasingly more important. Blue can use Tamiyo, the Moon Sage and Frost Titan also.
360 Staples:
Strip Mine
Wasteland
Rishadan Port
Vindicate
Armageddon
Other Cards I Play at 450:
Acidic Slime
Woodfall Primus
Cards I have played before which might need to come back
dust bowl
pillage
molten rain
sinkhole
There are a lot of soft answers like pithing needle and icy manipulator.
Do we need up our answer counts? Does the incidental value of mana depriving someone make it more valuable? Is anyone running a land destruction theme anymore or is it a bad vibe for everyone? How are white and blue going to handle it? More bounce or blockers?
