So, here we have our 2nd RW planeswalker. We have a plus ability that offers us card selection and a discard outlet; a minus ability that exiles opposing threats, and a better Through the Breach as an ultimate. Even just going -2, -2 gives you a lot of value, so this is probably a new addition to our Cubes. What are your thoughts about it?
This is a super cool walker, but I don't love the idea of running 2 2RW walkers in my cube. I don't run both Sarkhan and Xenagos in my RG section for the same reason.
It is nuts how we get two great gold cards in one day that I don't think I can fit in my unpowered 540.
Maybe Boros Charm or Lightning Helix have outplayed its role?
I think both of those are still better than this Nahiri. Plus I hate that the artifact/creature has to be tapped. Seems strong, but not strong enough for a guild.
So much to love about this card. I like that red gets another good discard outlet. Despite having to discard before the draw in the +2, it does put Nahiri up to 6 loyalty immediately which is pretty serious. I can envision her high loyalty and her -2 combining to protect herself quite well while creating a large distraction for your opponent. You do not want to let her ultimate with all the crazy creatures in cube. And then, unlike Sneak Attack or Through the Breach, the creature returns to your hand allowing you to cast or Sneak it in again. GG's
Exiling is cute, but the tapped clause means that this will struggle to actually protect itself. It's sort of like an Oblivion Ring that also absorbs a small attacker. Card filtering is huge in Boros, but this can't exactly exile their untapped blockers and 4 mana is steep to filter when Outpost Siege and Chandra just outright draw.
My early impression of the card is that it might well be nuts in constructed where you can have a one-of Eldrazi to chuck at someone's head, but in the Boros section of a cube I'm not sure it adds anything.
I think Vengeant is better. His +1 disables the same thing her -2 exiles, which leads to a similar outcome since it's going to be hard to -2 her twice, plus it can also tempo-stall by targeting a land. His -2 is removal that also pulls you ahead on life. Her +2 is cool, but ultimately not *that* strong.
And I don't think the section wants two very similar walkers.

If you absolutely have to only play one planeswalker in a guild Ajani is probably the one, but this is the type of card that I want for my guilds. I am a big fan of fatty cheating and Daretti has been a great addition. Also I do bend my rule for Izzet to include Dack and Ral. The -2 is limited but it may be live more often than the minus of Daretti or Dak. Going +2,+2 ultimate is pretty sweet. It feels closer to tooth and nail than through the breach as you get to search out the creature.
It also makes me think it might be time to include doubling season.
I think Nahiri would have been a great walker if her ultimate wasn't so disappointing. With an ultimate that was threatening enough to make the opponent attack her, she would play like a cheaper Jura + card selection. Instead, I feel like she's safely ignorable.
Ajani Vengeant is most certainly better, and if you have a small list you probably should focus more on the typical Boros aggro strategy. After the Boros top 4 already mentioned, the guild fell off some and this planeswalker is a welcome addition.
edit* Ajani Vengeant is much better than Nahiri but they are very different cards. Ajani fits into almost any deck including aggro while Nahiri is strictly midrange/control. The two walkers work very well together though so I don't think it's a one or the other decision.
I don't like this Nahiri, I don't think her abilities really fit her colors. Red and white can't abuse the graveyard without black, her exile ability is awkward since it requires the artifacts / creatures to be tapped, and I'm not running super fatties in RW for her ultimate.
I think she's better in a powered cube where her -2 ability will have more mana rocks to target, but I'm going to pass on her.

Red is perfect for her. Squee, Feldon and flashback cards (Maybe madness soon?) in red and white has karmic guide, revellark etc. Sure black is the best but white and red have plenty of things that go with this gur. Probably best in a mardu build. (I get lots of B?R reanimator builds that would splash for this at least)
I am not 100% sold on this card. I think the tapped restriction will prove to be a pretty big hurdle and her +2 ability is not something to write home about.
I think she will be my 6th Boros card, just making the cut for my cube for now.
If there is something I learned from running Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury, it is that being able to pop an enchantment or artifact on a walker is pretty sick in cube. Having the option to smack a creature as well, is pretty enticing - even with the tap clause.

Red and white can both utilize the graveyard, but it's usually not a central strategy, just value. Nahiri doesn't draw me into a graveyard strategy unless I'm in Mardu, I'm probably more in the market of just cycling cards in Boros. Another strike against Nahiri for me is that red / white 4 CMC slot is stacked and I don't think this competes well with mono colored options.
I do agree that Boros isn't a very deep guild. Ajani and Figure are the only two true standouts. Boros Charm is an above average burn spell / combat trick. After that you have Lightning Helix which is useful but extremely redundant. I still like Helix as the 4th Boros card though. #5 is a toss-up, I'm currently playing Boros Reckoner, he's kind of a pet card of mine but ultimately he's a placeholder until something else comes along. I could replace Reckoner with Nahiri, but I'd rather wait for something else.
1 Ajani Vengeant - 9.8
2 Figure of Destiny - 9.1
3 Boros Charm - 7.6
4 Lightning Helix - 7.3
5 Boros Reckoner - 5.4
6 Chained to the Rocks - 3.7
7 Slayers' Stronghold - 3.5
8 Assemble the Legion - 2.4
9 Aurelia's Fury - 1.3
10 Iroas, God of Victory - 1.1
I think this fits pretty comfortably in 5th. The +2 is very meh, the -2 is a little too conditional for my tastes (you can't use her to answer a big threat till it hits you, lots of artifacts just don't tap, and enchantment removal is narrow), and PW ults don't matter. No way is she better than helix.
