I am very confidant this card is going to be a Cube staple for pretty much ever. Really jazzed about not having to force vampires into the Cube, they are just happening naturally. Super excited.

Starting to think that SOI is part of WOTC's secret agenda to re-introduce Vampires Tribal in the MODO cube.
At least, I think this set is one the most exciting printing for cube in a lot time. Especially for aggressive strategies. It does contain a lot of powerful low converted mana cost card that I want to run. And interesting planeswalkers as well.
Just curious how folks' experience with this card has been? How often does her ability fire in your games? Has she been a good, on curve beater? Any better than blood scrivener and pain seer? Bob even? Has she lived up to the (seemingly) lofty expectations?
Not as good as Bob (what is?) but better than the other two. Black needs good 2-drops and this is one of the best ones, even if not on the level of Bob and Pack Rat. After those two, this or Oona's Prowler would probably be the next one I ran.
Glad to hear! AV is probably my favorite card from SOI, but it's been distressing seeing her so low on my cubetutor draft analyses. I was curious if she was a dud or something. Nice also to hear that her madness ability is consistently relevant. I've been putting a lot more energy into discard effects like bottomless pit, words of waste, etc, to fuel waste not and reanimation strategies. I sounds like she'll occasionally come in handy as a way of breaking the symmetry of multiplayer discard.
Anybody playing this with Heir of Falkenrath or Collective Brutality? I feel like all of them are good and better together but fighting over the same spot.
I play it with Heir and think they're fine together. They're both good beaters at 1B. Heir is a discard outlet, while Visitor keeps you drawing gas. I'd find room for both.

True, but the fact that I'm running a multiplayer cube could be skewing stuff too. I just figured that the increased opportunities for AS to "see" opponents out of cards would push her up higher in the draft pick order.
If you want to bolster that archetype, seems like a good card to run. If you prefer midrange, control, and reanimator, then probably not.
Looking at your list, you've got many less black one drops than in red and white and only one finishing black aggro 4 drop, so it looks like you're on the fence about it.
I like this card, but it's not a super high pick in my cube. My cube's power level is lower than most, so that's not a great sign for it.
That said, this is probably a permanent inclusion for me. It hits all my points, with lots of synergistic nodes:
- Good in aggro
- Good with discard outlets
- Good with hand disruption
- Two good creature types
- Good enough without other synergies
But for a cube like yours (happyjosiah), I don't think it competes with any of those cards except Oona's Prowler, and I don't think Visitor is necessarily better (although they're best together).
I think the hype at the time stemmed mostly from very favorable comparisons to other existing cards that were printed at that time. It was actually quite mediocre in my experience and certainly doesn't outdo the 5 cards you have listed. I also like Glint-Sleeve Siphoner and Heir of Falkenrath more, and Kitesail Freebooter is at around the same powerlevel. However, Visitor is still among the best aggressive splashable black two drops we have, and will likely remain so for a few years.
So is this guy not amazing anymore? Seemed to be super hyped up and is now disappearing from lists!
This guy is in my top 5 cards ever that under-performed relative to my expectation.
The madness criteria ended up being much harder to meet than I thought (and sustain).
Even if you reached madness, generally youd hit a string of two lands, stopping the flow of cards.
Not a bad card by any means, but way worse than I thought it would be

My black 2-drop section is this:
Dark Confidant
Pack Rat
Scrapheap Scrounger
Bloodghast
Oona's Prowler
I think all of those are better than Asylum Visitor. Change my mind?
