Spell Queller1WU
Creature - Spirit
Flash
Flying
When Spell Queller enters the battlefield, exile target spell with converted mana cost 4 or less.
When Spell Queller leaves the battlefield, the exiled card's owner may cast that card without paying its mana cost.
2/3
While maybe not the most amazing card, I've been feeling like my Azorius section is getting kinda stale, and am considering swapping this in for either Brago or Reflector Mage. Thoughts? The ability to Oblivion Ring any cmc 4 or less spell seems decent.
The art on this card is incredible. It is too bad that the player can cast for free, I think that hurts the tempo boost. Still, flash 2/3 Flyer is meaty and this can wreck for a couple turns while you stabilize. Worth testing.
This is a really strong card. Not sure how it stacks up to Reflector Mage (which has been nutz for me) but this creature definitely deserves testing. I don't love the idea of running three UW 3CMC creatures though so I have no idea what I'm going to do.
Big fan of this. I always loved Mystic Snake effects, and this is light years more efficient than that card. The body in itself is respectable and will produce 2-for-1s, and there are plenty of spells that get rendered useless even if this dies (x-spells, countermagic, situational removal).
The competition is the biggest question (Azorius has a lot of great tempo 3-drops), but for all I know this might be the best of the bunch.

Totes with you but I think I'm just going to run all three. Sucks because both W and U 3-drops are stacked but I suppose it's a good problem to have.
I like this a lot too. Wanna test. Worthwhile to note that sometimes (very rarely, probably) their spell will also fizzle when it leaves play, because it has no legal target anymore.
Running three 1UW cards is no problem for me, when they all play so well together.
I can't even recall right now what my 4th Azorius card is after Geist, Mage, and Verdict... so I guess the easy answer for me is to just run it and not worry about the 3 cmc concentration. Azorius is like Gruul but with 3 drops instead of 4 drops.
Very cool card. I like having the pseudo-Delay effect strapped to a body. I like Geist and Mage more though, so I don't know if I'm going to have room for a 3rd1WU creature that's designed for tempo shells.

I can't help but feel that a cube that runs Erratic Portal and Crystal Shard would be missing out by not testing this
Ya, but I already have Reflector Mage for that slot. Sadly, there's only so much room. I'm not saying I won't include it, only that I don't really need a 3rd Azorius tempo 3-drop. If it was any spell instead of ≤CMC4, I'd pretty much have to, since the interaction with Portal and Shard would pretty much be a lock.
I will cut Supreme Verdict, since I was hoping for an excuse to do so. This card sort of typifies U/W tempo in a nutshell. I feel there are enough sweeper effects around left for U/W control.
I could maybe convince my group to try this over Dragonlord Ojutai, but I think I'd rather have the control finisher over a third 3cc UW tempo support guy. I do like this card, though.

Ojutai! That's my fourth Azorius card. Hmm... yea Ojutai is really good and serves a much needed role for control decks.

In fact, this is my only concern. How often is this would turn into a Fiend Hunter (kind of) type of creature? Because yeah, this won't net you 2 for 1 unless the countered spell has zero legal target when it comes back on the stack. Can that scenario happen on a regular basis?

However, unfortunately not enough space in my Azorius section, but might find a home in my kitchen table blink deck.

WHY SO STACKED AZORIOUS!?
3 3 mana creatures in a guild who's individual colors are also stacked at the 3 slot is not that appealing.
But he's so good that I have to test.
I'd kill for this to be in simic or dimir
