We've been looking for another green 6-drop, and while unexciting, I reckon this could close out a lot of games since it's difficult to interact with. Not sure I'll play it over Greenwarden of Murasa because the immediate value isn't there, but it's a really big and really dumb beater. Thoughts?
Considering that Inkwell Leviathan gets the job done most of the time, this is probably too good of a rate to pass up. Like Thrun, getting this into play just outright beats some decks.
Not bad, not great either. I don't like this more than Regal Behemoth, but I probably like this more than Honored Hydra. The comparison to Thrun / Inkwell is pretty spot on, but it lacks the massive butt that Inkwell has, but I guess the more castable CMC is the tradeoff there. I'll probably pass on this, mono-green Sagu Mauler isn't what I'm looking for in 2017.
Looks like the 3rd best green six drop or even higher. Seems like a great thing to ramp into and a valid target for Natural Order as well. I also feel that green ramp decks can use the help against permission decks.
It'll get the job done, albeit relatively boring. Simic Sky Swallower can still close out games, but the double evasion brings a lot of its value. I might test this though, the uncounerable can matter on a big green creature (where you have a particular vulnerability to control) and it has good stats. I wish it could regenerate like Thrun though, this can get traded away in combat for a couple of beasts, and there's not much that can be done about it.
I feel like 6 power just makes it an expensive Kodama of the North Tree. I know 5 is a lot more competitive than six, but still. Maybe if you slapped on another ability (Regenerate, Intimidate, Vigilance, Reach, Uncounterable).
Ya maybe. I'd drop the toughness and make a 6 power version of Thrun.
This is fairly close to what everyone has been asking for to the point where I am more than happy to run it. I assumed we would get a 6/6, I wanted a 6/7, and I am happy with a 7/6. Trades with a few too many things but worth testing for sure.
I'm fairly certain it is the first set of the Ixalan block so it should come out at the end of September which is the 2nd set coming out (after hour of devestation)
Yeah these spoilers are horrendous for the game, and for forums like these. Our activity tends to come in heartbeats i.e. people come out of the woodwork during spoiler seasons and invigorate this and other places, and now we are going to miss a whole season of that.
This certainly seems testable. Gives green ramp-but-not-super-ramp a good top end.
And I have no issue with it being "uninteractive." There are lots of answers to hexproof creatures out there. It also has only 6 toughness, so blocking to death is hardly impossible.

What we wanted 4 years ago isn't necessarily what we need 4 years later. My cube was a lot more value / midrange based back in the day but now it's much more defined by archetypes. I was a big fan of big, dumb creature back in the day, not so much anymore. I think I would've given this a shot if Gearhulk / Regal Behemoth weren't just printed in the past year, not sure if I have the space for this anymore.

Gearhulk has been...whelming? (not exactly underwhelming, just very meh) for us, and might be what I swap out for this (in 5 months). Behemoth also seems perfectly fine to replace with this, but that card is more interesting so I will probably keep it in.

I've been liking Gearhulk quite a bit, it has a lot of interactions and choices involved and is bigger / cheaper than Tyrant. Tyrant is much more resilient, but has zero useful interactions.
This is cool and I'll try to find room, but I think I like Regal Behemoth more. Still, this will just murder a lot of games and that's what I want in a finisher. That said, we have a whole set, Commander decks, and the rest of this set before this comes out so it could be outclassed before we even try it out.
It's been a long time since I've played a cube with rares but I can't believe this isn't a 360 shoe-in. Is the gearhulk really that good? This guy is a lot better alone, which is pretty key for a control deck. A 3 turn clock your opponent can barely interact with is definitely not the most fun card, though.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
This is a good card, and it might be playable in my 540 cube, but I do think Gearhulk is better. I'll be giving this a trial run though ...because it's a giant, uncounterable, trampling, untargetable DINOSAUR. And it's probably the best 6cc green creature not named Primeval Titan, despite being a bit boring. This thing will still win games.
I don't find this interesting or exceptionally strong. Likely a pass for me. Sagu Mauler can come down earlier and with better stats relative to its cost (yes, I know it requires blue), Simic Sky Swallower has a second form of evasion that makes just blocking it a difficult proposition (also blue). So what this ultimately has going for it is that it is an uncounterable variant of these cards that is mono-green in nature. It's not enough for me, especially when I have multiple green 5 drops that fill the big dumb beater role more effectively (Kalonian Hydra, Verdurous Gearhulk).
Uncounterable + hexproof + trample, is is no joke in cube.
It seems kind of filler and I don't expect it to last, but I like having more blue hate cards in green and this will slot into that roll quite well.
If it wasn't uncounterable I wouldn't be close to interested.
This is the best green 6-drop finisher we have and it would have been an instant inclusion for me three years ago. However, I now got Great Oak Guardian and Regal Behemoth (and the uncuttable Primeval Titan, of course) and while those are worse finishers, they are more interesting creatures. So am I am actually not sure if I can fit in this dinosaur when it comes out. Then again, at 600 cards, I might find room for a fourth green 6-drop.
As an aside, Sphinx of Jwar Isle sometimes gets critized for being such a boring finisher. This guy certainly isn't any less boring.
What I like about this dino is that he's more than just a rando finisher. This big boy is a great answer to control decks. Mid-range beaters will almost always lose to control but answers to Carnage Tyrant are few and far between. Your either looking at a wrath effect or you have to beat it in combat which could be hard. It's not an auto win but it could make the control player sweat a little. Green needs cards like this.

What are these capital letters in your post, bro?
I'm with rant on these XLN spoilers. This dude is pretty solid and I can see finding room for him, but we have so many new cards and so many cube drafts before this guy even becomes a consideration for inclusion. I guess you could always proxy it up and just include it now, but even as someone who does that with new cards until I can get a foil copy, that just doesn't feel right to me.
I don't have any skin in the game really, I was just surprised by the reaction. Green creatures are really good now, but I think the guy is at least better than great oak guardian.

Here's wtwlf 4 years ago asking for basically this card but with expensive regeneration and -1/-1.
And actually, just before that, you were asking for something even closer and had been "asking for it for a long time now"
