Wow, did I ever sleep on this card. I haven't gotten to test teferi in my cube yet (I will), but I've been playing a ton of standard at the moment and I've been blown away by teferi.
The key variable I missed was how good the ability to untap 2 lands on your opponent's turn while drawing a card is.
If you view Teferi as a 3 mana planeswalker that can't be played right away, you may start to appreciate it's power. In comparison to a card like Garruk wildspeaker, drawing a card each time you +1 means that there's a significantly higher likelyhood that you will have a card that can utilize the mana advantage provided by the untapping of the lands.
How good teferi will be directly related to the density of your cube and the number of instant speed effects that your cube supports in UW (or splash).
If teferri's +1 is merely "draw a card", he is fine, but much much worse.
Is he better than sphinx's revelation? Is he more important than supreme verdict? I'm not sure, but in a deck that has a lot of instant speed answers, I suspect the answer will be yes.
Everyone here was pretty down on this card when it first got spoiled, myself included. Any second thoughts?
I left this card out of my own 720 list. It seemed weaker than Venser the Sojourner, who I had just cut to accommodate Fractured Identity in a pretty stacked guild. Now I'm wondering if I need to make room for Teferi by cutting something like Spell Queller or Dragonlord Ojutai.
I originally dismissed Teferi as another Jace, Unraveler of Secrets / Ob Nixilis Reignited variant, but it’s actually much better than those. The untapping of the lands gives you a lot of dfensive options and his -3 is very versatile. Definitely in my top 4 Azorius cards.
I felt slightly positive about him initially, much better about him now, but I never picked up the card and he's a bit too pricey for me at the moment. Not sure if we'll get more good options by the time he climbs down, but, I'd like to add him at some point.

Yeah, that's the problem... not sure if he's gonna climb down very far, or at all. Still, I guess I'll see about picking one up.

The price will drop a lot when he rotates standard... not sure if you wanna wait that long tho! He sees zero legacy play, and is a 1-2 of in one deck composing 5-10% of the modern meta.
He's a 4 of in like 33% of the standard metagame and that's a huge deal for price.
Back to the thread... yeah, teferri is great. It's truly amazing how big of a deal the "untap 2 lands" clause on his +1 is... it's basically the difference between a mutli-format all-star and...ob-nixilis.
Def after seeing him perform in standard in modern I am sold on this card. I like that he is good in all situations. My gripe with Venser is that he NEEDS something out to be good
Teferi is basically always good, great in draw-go, and Venser only really shines in like, Bant decks where you can abuse stuff like acidic slime. I actually really happen to enjoy both and go to some length to include good blink targets, but yeah Teferi is probably just better. Right now I include both.
I've never really been a fan of 5-Drop Teferi, but I've eventually added him back instead of Dragonlord Ojutai not because I think he's a better card, but I feel I need to increase the density of removal spells in my cube.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
