Have some small interest in this card.. Fringe at medium sized cubes at best, but surprised no one has made a SCD about it.
A 4/5 lifelink is amazing in any matchup where life totals are relevant, and it's abilities pair nicely with what many black decks are trying to do. Life loss is a huge issue for black and it's worth taking a second look at any card in black that can gain life.
Decent with recurring nightmare.
BBB is less bad than other tripple color costs due to cards like dark ritual.
Certainly better designed for fair environments that are a little more creature heavy than combo heavy.. It's best against agro and agro midrange, so if those theatres are under-represented in your cube, the card is not for your cube.
I like everything the card does, tbh. But, the mana cost is rough, and I don't like that it's not doing much if you don't have little creatures to sac and recur. But more than that, I feel it doesn't really add much to my cube's themes, so much as piggy-back off of some sacrifice and lifegain synergies for mild value.
This is a problem for me because I like my cards at 5+ cmc to really define what a deck is all about; like, I want the bigger spells to reward you for all the work you did to draft cards that fit a theme, build a coherent deck that sticks to that theme, and then actually survive the game long enough to play a big chungus of a spell. I want the same "Oh ... *****" as you get when somebody resolves a Gideon Jura, or a Thundermaw Hellkite, or a Deranged Hermit.
This feels like a design that was meant for a 3/4 that cost 2BB, and got changed later in development. I probably would have played that card. Doubt I'll play this.
