There is 1 more day to vote for your Black top 20. I would really like to hit a bare minimum of 20 votes for each of these categories and right now we are at 16. I don't want to extend the voting period if I don't have to, but I'd rather have more votes than cut off at 16. Hopefully people will vote by the end of tomorrow.
Lookie There! We went from being short of having a decent sample size to being 3 short of the number of voters in 2016 (26) and we have some time to go! Who's Awesome! You [all] are!
Friendly reminder. Partial lists will not be accepted. There should be 20 cards listed. If you're planning on editing your list by end of day Friday to finish it out that is A-OK but I wanted to make sure everyone is aware so they are not excluded. Also, again please don't post anything but your votes...especially comments with card names.
I will be out of town through Saturday night. If people want to take advantage of the extra day to vote that is fine by me -- we are a bit low on votes anyhow. I'll still plan on having results for Red on Sunday and posting the Green voting thread Sunday or Monday.
Edit: Sidenote -- I don't think I have to worry about a single commander card being voted upon by accident. Every card is either too weak or too commander specific.
We're at 15 votes right now. I'd like to have at least 20 so we have a good amount of data to compile. I know a lot of people vote on the last day though so I think we will get there.
At 17 now. I'll wait for at least 3 more votes before I close this. I'll check back in around Noon (Central) to see where we're at. If we don't have it by then, I will create a Reddit post soliciting some quick last minute involvement. I think we just get a better final product when we have at least 20 voters. Cheers.
I can’t even name 10 cards from each guild for some guilds. Can I instead just submit as many as I can that I’ve played in the past from each color? Like the Azorious 10 is easy to fill out, but Gruul is gonna be impossible for me past the top 5 or 6. I feel like just submitting random filler cards that I’ve never played myself at the end is kinda bad for the stats. What do I do in this situation?
I appreciate that going 10 deep in some guilds is rather difficult, but if people were able to do so back in 2009 we can do it now. Cubes that go much deeper into the guilds due to their size or just personal preference will really appreciate being able to see the average #5-#10.
I have provided past years result links to help remind voters of past top contenders and while I discourage looking at others lists to inform your ranking order, you may certainly do so to refresh your memories of guild cards to list. Lastly, the gatherer is a good tool to narrow down options for voting by guild--this may be a bit time intensive though so others lists usually will be more helpful.
Friendly reminder though, partial lists will not be accepted.
Friendly reminder, the voting threads should only contain votes. To be blunt, I'm mildly annoyed at the complaining about going ten deep on the guilds. Not only has it always been done this way, but this was the plan since the first page of this thread and yet some are raising this issue now trying to change this in the middle of the vote? It isn't that I don't sympathize with the difficulty of determining the final 5 or so for people who tend to keep their guild sections at 3-5 cards, but there are more than enough resources available (many of which I have linked into the thread) to help make this task easier.
It also isn't my aim to force people to vote on cards they have no experience with, but with the guilds this may be somewhat unavoidable as the sections are so small that when the new 6th/7th best card for a guild comes along many people disregard it since they run a 3-4 card deep section. Also, I would suggest that since many cubers here have run a cube for many years, you have played with many if not most of the options that would merit inclusion in the top ten for a given guild at some point. For those few who may not fit into this category, you may have to make some educated guesses and that is ok. I don't claim the result threads to be gospel. I appreciate everyone taking the time to work through the guild voting as I realize it is decidedly more involved than the other voting we do as part of this project.
I love having lists of ten for a number of reasons.
First, it's really nice if you're constrained by budget. A lot of these really good multicolor cards also happen to be really good in other formats. Some of what we might consider staples go for 20 bucks or so right now for nonfoils. While that may not be expensive to everyone, it certainly can be to some. Being able to go down the list and skip over a card that's seeing play in multiple formats in favor of a more budget, but still perfectly acceptable option is nice.
On the same note, maybe that staple is too powerful for your environment. Maybe you don't want planeswalkers. Heck, maybe you're just tired of this card you've been running since 2009 and want some inspiration on a replacement to change things up for your next draft. A ten card list provides plenty of alternative options.
Ten card lists are also great for people who want to run a large cube, especially if they're looking to keep multicolor at around that 8-10% mark and want to know what's commonly seeing play in slots 5-8.
It's really sad to see the participation numbers have dropped so low for this round of voting. The guild lists are my favorite ones to make.
Naming 10 should be pretty fairly easy with some reminders from other peoples lists or simply going through the gatherer. Two of your slots can pretty easily be a talisman and a signet so you are 20% of the way there already.
How many spoilers have we had even just in recent sets (maybe especially in recent sets given the multicolored nature of them) where there are cards that are "so close to testing this" but don't quite make it. Even if you haven't played it you likely gave an opinion that a card was close to cubeable if your gold slot was larger.
While I agree once you get lower down the list it isn't easy to rank one card vs another, its still fairly easy to make a top 10 cards you would add to your cube if you had gold slots to spare.
As an interesting side note I think this highlights a problem in cube where the vast majority of people are too hesitant to test new cards. They read other peoples thoughts on a card in the new cards section, write it off, and never actually test it in their own environment. Testing new cards keeps your cube fresh and you might be surprised what actually works really well in your personal cube vs how it performed in someone else's! (Assuming you actually play, and dont just theorize, which is another problem entirely of itself that has become prevalent in the online cube community)
I can say for each of my top 10 lists I have played every single card in my cube or someone else's cube with the exception of 1 gruul card and 1 dimir card and I didnt even put in talismans or signets because I personally dont think of them as guild cards.
Hey. Just wanted to provide a quick update. My great uncle passed away on Friday so this has been on the backburner.
I will probably get some of the calculations for enemy guilds done tonight and have the results thread up by tomorrow though. The colorless thread will go up after and I'll leave that open through Sunday night and do results after.
Thanks for your patience with the delays in the project.
Got results calculated for Orzhov and Golgari today...I'm plugging away as time allows. (Admittedly spoilers have me a bit distracted too...lol) Thanks for the supportive words! May just start colorless next Monday if everyone is okay with that. Hope this doesn't cause a dropoff in voters, but what can you do? "shrug".
I'm totally okay with voting starting Monday, and yeah take as much time as you need. Besides, if anything, spoiler season might bring up more activity in voting.
FYI, I think colorless will get a lot of voters back, I didn't vote on guilds due to time constraints / desire to think about 10 cards per guild felt to mentally taxing
I am looking forward to the new voting, but no rush
Holy. Moly. I am so sorry for everyone I have confused. We actually have 3 more weeks to go. We have shards/wedges, colorless, and then lands. I definitely lost my brain last week (did someone cast Thought Scour?) and I think I have retrieved most of it by now. We will do shards/wedges 2 deep, followed by colorless top 20, and then finally lands going 20 deep. Alright, I'll have the shards/wedges thread up shortly.

No worries. I thought I misunderstood the process.
Thanks.
