Classic Manic Vandal type of a creature! Seems great!
Do we know if this would count as a creature if you cast it in Adventure mode? Fairly significant vs things like Thorn of Amethyst or Vryn Wingmare in Cube
I want to add a storybook card, but I'm not sure this card is where I want it to be for unpowered. I'm not running Manic Vandal, so I could probably trim some fat for this - it's just a matter of what.
I think this card is awsome, especially for powered cubes where you are more likely to be able to cast this on turn 1 to take out a mox and then cast the creature part from exile later on.
The real question is if your cube finds lots of ways to abuse etb effects and manic vandle is more abusable, but most tighter cubes have a smaller bounce theme, and larger cubes probably want to run both anyways
I think this is better overall than Manic Vandal. Seems like a shoe-in for powered cubes. I'm not currently running Manic Vandal in my own cube, but I might try to find a slot for it. Being able to blow up a mana rock before turn 3 is really nice compared to Vandal.
Clear upgrade over Vandal, but not sure I'm in need of further artifact removal in my unpowered beyond Abrade and Goblin Cratermaker which I believe are both better.

Agree!
Also not sure where I would categorise this in cube. 1-drop sorcery? 2-drop creature? 3-drop creature?
Unfortunately cannot be abused with blink effects either.
I think I'm going to count it as a 2cc creature. Sometimes it'll be a 1cc spell, other times it'll use up 1RR in one turn. I'll split the differennce and call it a 2-drop.

These are what I'm running too, and I know this isn't better than abrade and doubt it's better than cratermaker. I think it is much better than vandal, though, if I was still running that.

I think for unpowered cubes this may be true, but in powered cubes, being able to destroy an artifact on turn 1 can be a big deal whereas Goblin Cratermaker might not be able to until turn 3. The other thing to consider is that Goblin Cratermaker is good because you can play it as a body, and then destroy something when it's no longer doing much on board, or it makes your opponent use a removal spell on him before casting whatever they need to protect. Embereth Shieldbreaker can destroy something and then be a body, or just be a body, but once it's in play, it's going to be a 2/1. I think it warrents testing in powered cubes to see if being able to answer threats on turn 1 is important enough
This card's good, but probably not amazing. I'll play the pack version because it has reminder text. My players shouldn't be expected to know every random keyword. But, yeah, the other version looks a lot cooler.
In actuality, this is basically a reverse Torch Fiend.
How has this guy been as a replacement for Manic Vandal? I am scared to cut vandal as his ETB effect is potent in some fun synergy ways. And is the 2/1 vs 2/2 toughness a bigger deal than is discussed here? Maybe not in red since that 2 power is all that red cares about?

What about replacing the Vandal with Irreverent Revelers? I'm also curious how the Shieldbreaker stacks up against the additional upside on Revelers.
All vandals fell out of grace here quite a while ago, but Shieldbreaker did not. It is a convenient card. When I need to destroy an artifact, it doesn't take my entire turn. When I need a body, I am paying only two mana for it. When I need both, I can still do that for the same amount of mana and can even split it between turns.

This. Shieldbreaker is far and away my favorite Vandal variant.

Regular art/frame version. I like the special frame more for it; most cards with that frame are a bit too busy, but this one works.

Not gonna lie, this is a major reason why I'm considering the card. I don't need it, but, it's so pretty.
