I think this guy could be pretty good. I've been very impressed with the 1 mana white tappers in my cube. 2 mana for a tap ability is nowhere close to as good as the 1 mana versions, getting a Smite the Monstrous mode for three mana seems pretty great. For a one mana creature, this little peasant can do a great deal of work.
Why reference Smite the Monstrous when Smite the Monstrous is just a bad Reprisal? I think this card is a strong limited workhorse for ELD, but I wouldn't swap any 2 power 1 drop or Mother of Runes for this. There are White 1 drops I am not running that I would include before this as well.
I feel like this card was printed solely to 2 for 1 Questing Beasts all day.
That being said, this is pretty filler tier for me. Reprisal / Smite the Monstrous are pretty narrow effects, especially for their cost. I'm not a fan of tap effects, especially in white. It's so inefficient in a format that has access to so much good removal. Why tap something when I can just remove it?
I'd like this a lot more if it was only 1 mana for the tap ability, but even then it'd fall short for me. Hanged Executioner pretty much does everything I want this card to do, plus more. That's an M20 card I feel that hasn't gotten too much love, but the feedback from the Xmage Playgroup has been quite positive on it.
This has some sleeper potential.. but my instincts telling me no.
Card's power strikes me as extremly format dependent.. since ideally you want to get a 2 for 1 out of it, hence it matters how live the adventure side is. In general I think you want to hold onto the card and wait for a chance to use the adventure side.
An exception would be in an agro deck with effects like venerated loxodon, legion's landing or equipment, that really want a body down asasp.
Reprisal is dead in too many matchups in cube.. from planeswalker decks, to agro decks. A decent amount of the huge/cheaty threats are immune or strong against "destroy" effects as well.
I love this guy, and I wanna play him. But I didn't create a thread for him because I figured people would say "Humbug on your 1 power!"
This isn't so much worse than Goldmeadow Harrier, and the potential for upside when you draw it late is quite real indeed. The Reprisal doesn't cost you a card, which is the problem of narrow cards like that.
Personally I think that people are pretty boneheaded about jamming all the 2 power 1-drops. I've never played more than a few of them, and aggro has always been buildable for me. But the community has spoken, and what it says is generally 2-power or bust.

This guy doesn't have to compete with aggro one drops in my cube. It might get a crack at being #17.
