Comparable to Pia and Kiran Nalaar (non-fliers obviously). Having to discard nonlands for the effect is awkward, but 2/2 rummage 2 is still decent, and it's great when topdecking. Flashback is also cool. Definitely excited to try this. If only red 3's weren't already so stacked.
They left out the part where Yawgmoth is resurrected, but has been cleansed as Yawgmoth the Redeemed, and now must awaken Chromium so that Karn can fuse with him and create what can only be known as : the ultimate taco.
Crazy value. Creates up to 4 power over 3 bodies for 1RR. Will just straight up draw you cards when hellbent. Creates more dudes at instant speed from the grave. Combos with Recruiters/Reveillark. Might be tough to find a cut for this, but this appears great at first glance.
Cool card. I like red cards that can interact with the graveyard, and this has some neat synergies. I think the 1RR cost and having to discard gas to get vanilla 1/1 bodies might be too fair/steep, but it can do some fantastic things in decks that can take advantage of the discard aspect of it. Not to mention the hellbent draw is a good upside and the exile-for-tokens clause from the 'yard is essentially free card advantage. Might very well test this out. Kinda cool.
Love that value all around. Most red 3s are susceptible to immediate removal or are fairly situational, so this is a nice new look. I don’t know if it makes the average aggro deck’s main, but I can’t think of any base red deck that would be upset about playing it.
Yea this guy seems pretty rad to me as an all around solid three drop. I don't love the double red, but that's about the only negative. I think this deserves to be tested. He has applications in Aristocrats, Tokens, Reanimator, Aggro, Midrange, ect. Sweet creature!
Much higher floor than all the 3 drops that have to attack to do get tokens. Pia and Kiran Nalaar can act as a body and sac the tokens to end games so I don't know if that is the best comparison. I think this could replace card]Hanweir Garrison[/card]. Also note that the discard effect is on ETB, so running him into counter magic isn't the same as say cathartic reunion. This guy plays to so many archetypes.
I know that double red cost is awful...if only it had a 2RR failsafe mode. =P
Purphoros loves this card too! Builds towards his devotion, goes wide, and draws cards. Also important to note that what you discard is up to you, you might lose the value of the dude or two, but if you pitch cards that aren't gas you're going to replace those with cards that could be. Late game it is a straight up draw two.
Also, the discard's not a may. I could see scenarios where I really don't want to pitch the gas in my hand, and I'll be either forced to turn my Hellrider into a Memnite or skip playing my 3-drop in the ideal window... I mean, I hope that doesn't happen often, and it probably won't, but still. Something to keep an eye on while testing (which I plan to do).
I love this in any sort of red combo deck and I like it a lot in a red midrange deck (which are rare but getting better with time).
Double rumage that also gums up the board is a phenomenal effect for any deck looking for a combo piece. Also great in value/reanimator,
since pitching a reanimation creature is worth positive value instead of negative value.
Playable/meh in mono red, but awesome in a bunch of other red archtypes.
I'd be surprsied if this wasn't a staple.
As far as functionality is concerned, it reminds me a lot of champion of wits, but with a strong battlefield prescence instead of long term value.
For people who play that card, it should give a good indicator of just how strong this card is. (It's much better than champion of wits and that card is a solid roleplayer in my eyes)
Holy crap are red threes stacked. Red threes are where I have some of my favorite pet cards. I love Goblin Sharpshooter and Squee, Goblin Nabob so much, but every set reminds me that their time is coming. Outside of that I feel like Feldon of the Third Path and Combat Celebrant are also cuttable, although they are unique to a couple strategies (welder, emrakul, reanimator, fires, twin, humans). And I want to test out this, and probably add in Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin as well.
This card is extremely powerful. I like LucidVisions take on comparing to Champion of Witts.
This card offers some real late game power with its graveyard ability and hellbent draw, but I don't see it being good in red aggro. I often to never want to rumble away gas in my red decks, and if this guy doesn't create tokens when he enters, then he isn't close to worth it. I think double red, must discard and the awful body if you don't get tokens, keeps this from being a reliable card. I can see it being good as a defensive value creature in red control decks, but I'm not sure I want to spend a slot on such a generic creature. It is really hard to judge this, as it all depends on how often it is good on curve.
It has some value in the red artifact-reanimator decks, since the card both discards and loves to be discarded.
I feel like this reads better than it plays - It is just too many marginal negatives. Playing it on curve will in some shells not be that good. The exile clause is essentially flavour text. I just feel you'll end up too many times wanting to discard a land and then you get very little value. Maybe it will be good enough in kiki-shells and Welder decks.
Between the cycling and the flashback ability, this card really really keeps the momentum going. Competing with Rabblemaster variants is tough, but this is probably the best midrange 3-drop while still being a valuable discard outlet in graveyard decks and is still respectable in an aggro shell if need be.
The floor on this seems better to me than most of the Rabblemaster variants since the tokens are created ETB, unless you mean the floor of not casting this at all?
It doesn't seem like the kind of card you can just chuck into anything, but it has a lot of cool things going for it. It does a lot of stuff for a lot of different builds. And I disagree with the notion that the exile clause is "flavor text". It's a free Krenko's Command strapped to an otherwise already playable critter; it's "flavor text" about as much as the flashback on Firebolt is. Especially in decks that are playing Pyromancer for its token value. I'm all for free value.
I didn’t notice that.. definitely annoying occasionally, more so in combo decks. but now that I think of this, doesn’t that mean you draw 2 cards if you are hell bent?!
Similar to rix maadi reveler.. that’s pretty incredible if I’m reading it correctly. Card is even better than I first noticed.

I'm always happy to see red creatures that arent all in on aggro. I will play this for sure. Sure it's not as explosive as other red 3 drops but it fits in almost any deck.
Young Pyromancer grew up and got SHREDDED. He’s a nice topdeck late game because you draw 2 cards regardless of how many you discard.

I feel it's the exact opposite actually.
- Potential Beetleback Chief stats for 1RR
- Cycles cards and cashes them in for elementals
- Straight up draws cards if you're Hellbent
- Flashback effect at instant speed
- Recruiter / Reveillark synergies

I think the floor of cycling away two lands with potential for a flashback effect at instant speed later in the game is a very good floor.
