What a wonky card. Haste is good and the high toughness means it should survive in combat for a couple turns. The discard trigger is interesting and has a lot of cube synergy, but I don't know that 1 damage per card discarded is impactful enough. Being able to rummage is nice, but 2 mana to do so is not cheap and the fact that you need to be attacking limits it's usefulness. What do y'all think?
I like the 2/4 body with haste and can see activating that ability 1-2 times before it's outclassed in combat, but at 1RR that's a much harder sell. The extra damage doesn't compare well to all the other 3-drops that make 1/1's.
But boy oh boy do I wanna strap more rummaging and looting to my red bois. I don't think it's strong enough but I'll enjoy the testing phase.
I think I might be excited about this thing if the rummaging didn't cost anything
Yeah, that is my concern too. I still have Sin Prodder in my list and will test this new Pirate, but 2 mana for the effect is quite a lot, even though it may be better than Prodder.
This card is a 2/4 with a rummage ability on attack that deals damage to opponents, can make your wheel effects deal damage, and works with a high number of discard effects within red and discard effects used against you. While it's power is a little low for creature combat, the 4 toughness will help it get through most early creature plays.
I imagine it will play like a small Hazoret the Fervent, (and plays well with hazoret) except it will deal its damage any time you discard rather than hazoret who only deals it with the activation.
The problem this card really faces is that red threes are so good... however, I feel it could be a great substitute if you wanted variety from all of the token dropping three drops we currently run.

ah yes, I too wish I had a hastey creature with the attack trigger "Kill each opponent as long as my library is more than their life total."
Thanks for the sarcasm, otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed the loot deals 1 damage! This actually has me thinking about testing it now. People were all excited about the new narset and wheel of fortune effects. This could be an absolute slam dunk in the right cube, and small powered 360s I feel like have the highest density of these effects.

This is still the best place for high-power-level cube chat & debate.
Here's to many more years at MTGS *clink*
