Looking through the full spoiler, this common caught my eye. It isn't amazing by any stretch, but I'm considering it for a combination of aristocrats/persist combos as another enabler in red. Thoughts?
That aside, I do run Carrion Feeder. If you don't have a dedicated persist combo and/or aristocrats deck, it definitely isn't worth it. Trying to figure out if it's worth it if I do.
The same happened for me, couldn't believe this is a Common.
Yes, the activation cost is annoying, but Trample is really great. Ultimately, it won't make it in my Cube, but I like the Designspace.
I think if you really like sacrifice in red (which isn't a stretch as it is token and graveyard heavy in recent years ) I think this is worth a look. Saccing the monkey from Kari Zev or a rabblemaster token that isn't going anywhere isn't bad.
That said I think I like Greater Gargadon and Goblin bombardment more for red sac outlets. This comes in at number 3 ahead of the bombardment ripoffs that require activation. So if you are deep on sac and looking for a spicy new 2 drop give it a spin.
And yes, this as a common, in a core set, means wizards has given up on it being an entry level product.

I'd say it's more of a case of them adjusting what 'entry level product' means. Just French vanillas and the like don't get people excited or their minds racing with possibilities. Something like this makes use of really basic mechanics to make a new player ask 'hey, I wonder how I'd be able to make this work together with other things'.
I completely understand this catching your eye, because just a few years ago it seems like design taboo to allow commons to gain value from your doomed creatures for less than 3-4 mana per activation. It’s great in something. Just not cube. Haste, please!

If the sac activation didn't cost mana it would be great.
Carrion Feeder is a 1 drop that gets the +1/+1 counters without paying mana and that card's on the outside looking in for a lot of cubes.

This is still the best place for high-power-level cube chat & debate.
