What a weird planewalker. I think I like it better than Jace Beleren, but then again, I've never really like Beleren as much as other people and cut it years ago.
I hate baby Jace but still run it cuz some people love it. I'm probably in the minority.
I dont think they are ever going to print a Nahiri that will be good enough for our Cube =(
That Jace is...something. 2 walkers for 3UU? You could use big walker for scry 2 and get to 5 loyalty then use the small walker to grab a land or kill it to grab something bigger.
I feel like I have to test Jace at 540. Two walkers (that admittedly don't protect themselves) seems potentially awesome. You can also dig 4 cards deep if you're looking for something specific. That is 15% of your deck at that time which is wild.
Interesting design that's a weird hybrid of Jace Beleren / Nissa, Steward of Elements / Mulldrifter. Being able to spam the +1 a few times just to tank a hit or two is probably more valuable than you'd think at face value. There's a lot of competition at the 3-cmc planeswalker slot now with Beleren / Narset / Mirror Mage, really can't go wrong with either of them and seem pretty interchangeable for the most part.
I love the idea of kicker on a planeswalker, but I think this probably doesn't do enough. It's very meh at 1UU (a LOT worse than baby jace), and at 3UU it's interesting, but far below what you can do for 5 cmc in cube. I don't think the flexibility to cast it at either CMC overcomes the lower power level.
This card gives a lot of options! Not only 3 mana vs 5 mana modes, but if you kick it,
- You can scry a land on top with the main one, then draw it with the token keeping both Planeswalkers
- You can scry with the main one, then cash in the token for a spell
- You can scry with both to have a Planeswalker on 5 Loyalty and another on 2, which is a lot for the opponent to try to break through
- You can double draw (and potentially still have 2 planeswalkers if the token hits a land)
- You can scry with the token and draw with the main one, keeping 2 Planeswalkers and drawing a card
Cards that give you options are generally strong. It doesn't have protection like creature removal or token creation, but having 2 bodies and high loyalty is also sort of protection. I think this Jace could be very good.
I like it. Thanks to Jamis for laying out all the different options; I agree having that many ways to use the card is beneficial. Not sure what I'd swap out, but I'm gonna give it a test more likely than not.
Yea, I really like this as well. Modal spells tend to play better than they look and, as has already been mentioned, this provides you with a lot of options.
At the very least, I plan to test it, probably over Jace Beleren.
I love flexible cards that reward strategy. Such a clever and flavorful design. I have no idea what I will cut for this, but I am excited to see this fine new blue planeswalker in action.
Cool card design. Being able to scry 2 and draw a card is nice immediate value but i think the real exciting part of the card is leaving behind the headache of TWO planeswalkers for your opponent to deal with. Jace doesn't interact with the battlefield which is not ideal for a 5cc planeswalker but unless you're very far behind I think JaceMM's two bodies will create enough of a distraction to allow you to gain value off your investment. Having the option of casting it for 3cc puts it over top.
I think it's being underestimated. I like it more than Jace Beleren and the new 4 Mana blue Teferi.
It's probably the 3rd best blue Planeswalker after JTMS and Narset, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is actually the 2nd best in cube as Narset is not as good in cube as constructed.
This card is also 4 devotion to blue when kicked, right? Asking because my play group loves the blue devotion archetype.
Yep, the copy will also have a mana cost of 1UU, so it'll add 4 to your devotion to blue.
I'm torn because I'm still a sucker for baby jace, but the flexibility of this is compelling. The alt-art weirds me out because it reminds me of the Riddler, though.
I'll be replacing Jace Beleren with this as well. It is flexible, its first ability plays into its second ability or the copy's second ability. It can take a sizable hit without having to give your opponent a card. Also, it is just the more interesting card by a mile.
This card scales quite well. I would say this however:
At 1UU, I do not think this card is better than Jace Beleren. I know Beleren has not been high on the priority list, but I don’t know if I am willing to cut Beleren for this. I would rather compare this to 5 mana slots rather than 3 mana slots.

Any results here? We've cubed it a few times, and it succeeds at being really annoying to get rid of, but am still a bit skeptical that it's impactful enough. Anyone gotten any reps and have feedback?
Only testing I've gotten was in the current MTGO cube. I drafted Jace twice so far, once in a low-to-the-ground UB control deck with lots of 2cmc Counterspells and Removal, and then in a UW tap-out control deck with a lot of 5cmc and 6cmc Planeswalkers. I was impressed by Jace in both decks. Throughout the games, both decks cast Jace at 3cmc and 5cmc roughly equally, maybe skewing towards 5cmc as the most cast mode. I think when only comparing the 3cmc mode, this Jace is worse than Jace Beleren, and when comparing the 5cmc mode, it's probably worse than something like Tezzeret, Artifice Master. The strength of Mirror Mage comes in the flexible casting cost. When you're able to cast for 5 mana, this should be better than Beleren, and if you're stuck on 3 lands and need to dig for more, this will help more than Tezzeret. Mirror Mage might not be as good outside of Control. I could see a Sneak Attack or Splinter Twin deck preferring Beleren, though I hope to get more testing while the MTGO cube is up since we're still not playing paper Magic here.
One thing I've noticed by watching MTGO cube drafts from streamers and youtubers is that people seem to prioritize this Jace less than Beleren. In packs where I think Beleren would have been a real consideration, and a card they would have thought about picking, they often don't even mention Mirror Mage. Don't know if that's due to it being a new card and being harder to evaluate, or if the card is genuinely just worse than Beleren, but it's worth noticing.
They left out the part where Yawgmoth is resurrected, but has been cleansed as Yawgmoth the Redeemed, and now must awaken Chromium so that Karn can fuse with him and create what can only be known as : the ultimate taco.
