Vampire Nighthawk upgrade with one-sided Goyf attack boost. This is one pushed stat monster that's playable in multiple archetypes. I for one welcome our new 3-cmc Baneslayer Angel overlords.
I'll be testing this out. It just needs one card in the opponent's grave to equal a nighthawk, who has always been serviceable. At 2 card types, it's a 6-point lifeswing, and when paired with black's discard and creature removal, it's not unimaginable that this new nighthawk could be quite large. I like that the floor of the opponent having no cards in the yard still gives you a creature that can trade with anything.
I'll try it out... Upgrade to nighthawk, but I haven't liked nighthawk for 5+ years and we've gotten a bunch of great 3 drops in black since then.
The big difference between this and OG Nighthawk is that Scavenger Nighthawk can close out the game much faster and creates bigger life swings with scalable power + lifelink. So much better late game, especially as a cheap threat that you can leave up counter magic for that doesn't take forever to win.
I was actually surprised when I realized that Vampire Nighthawk was still in my cube! For some reason I'd been under the impression that I'd cut it. Makes this an easy swap.
Seems alright, just feels like it only works in aggro decks as a 3/3 most of the time, and I don't its really that much better than most other 3s in those decks. Nighthawk might be a limited all-star but its pretty bad in non-peasant cubes imo, and although this is certainly way better I'm still not sure its good enough to make the cut. Still gonna test it, but I doubt it'll stick for us unless it turns out this thing is a 5/3 or bigger most of the time, in which case I'll be all over it.
Easy swap for those still running Vampire Nighthawk and IMO enough of an upgrade for it to return to most cubes that cut this. This has all the same early game defensive value and now its power generally scales as the game continues. I wish all my swaps were so straight-forward.
It's a good card, albeit a little unexciting. If I can find a cut for it I'll happy play it though, since this is a significantly better card than Vampire Nighthawk is.
