Malakir RebirthB
Instant (Uncommon)
Chose target creature. You lose 2 life. Until end of turn, that creature gains "When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield tapped under it's owner's control."
// Malakir Mire
Land
Malakir Mire enters the battlefiled tapped. T: Add B.
An Undying Evil variant is a pretty interesting place to take this. Versatility goes a long way on an effect like that. Probably too low impact for most, but pretty unique.
I have to actually think about this card. It is in a way one mana "save" your creature from removal.
- This could be useful in a ramp/ reanimator deck to save your creature from a removal, potentially double ETB.
- Could be useful in aggressive decks to play around sweepers to buy back the creature to keep attacking next turn.
- Spells- matters (i.e. Monastery Mentor) and Aristocrats decks often have keep creatures to protect
At worst this could be a swamp.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
With Rakdos Scam doing well in Modern, I'm wondering if this has some merit with the MH2 Pitch/ Evoke creatures as arguably the opportunity cost for this type of card is very low.
I’ve been thinking about this card for its scam application but it’s super narrow. I want 2+ pitch elemental at minimum in my deckbefore I’d consider running it and that happens too rarely.
If I doubled up on grief or they print a couple more good proactive pitch elementals I’d likely include it.
It’s a fun interaction to build around and one that’s commonplace in modern since MH2.
In Vintage, scam just runs Reanimate over Malakir Rebirth, hehe.
The front half is essentially just a more narrow Ephemerate that requires stricter timing, but makes up for that by having a land mode. The effect is certainly strong and can do cool things with Sneak Attack. Personally for me I'd want some more evoke creatures / sac outlets so I have more control of the effect, too bad it doesn't work with Flash.
