Feels a little like Serra Avenger to me in a way. I don't think I can afford to be stuck on 1 mana for the entire game, so I can't really use this card until like T3 or so at the earliest. Pass for me.
It's an aggro card that effectively can't be played in the window where it would be most effective. An easy pass. I doubt I would even play this if it said "the first time ~ deals combat damage to a player return a land you control to its owner's hand" and this is much worse. Aggro decks are lean machines that need every last resource to deal 20 damage before the opponent can stabilize. I'm sure this card has some neat synergies within this set, but it isn't for cube.
Weirdly, I think the most similar card is Torpid Moloch. This can actually attack reliably after a time unlike Moloch, but by then a 2/2 trample is gonna be a chump attack pretty often, unlike Living Tsunami. Unless your deck is all Steppe Lynx and Akoum Hellhound (which it isn't), you can't make full use outta this.
The thought of playing it off of a mox in Main Phase 1 and throwing down a land in main phase 2 (post attack) is oddly appealing, though I don't feel that would ever happen often enough for this card to be worthwhile.
Easy pass since I cannot for the life of me think of a reliable way to mitigate the drawback, but I will say I thought for a long while about it. Means it’s an interesting card, at least!
It should be mentioned that if you play this on turn 1, you can attack before you play your land on turn 2, so it’s essentially a 4 damage turn one shard volley with some extra late game shenanigans. Still not a fan, but this is certainly better than it looks. Probably more of a turn 3 card, sorta like Skyfisher in that you’ll play it the turn after you play your last land, but I still don’t think it gets there unfortunately. The haste+trample combination does make this super good with equipments and swords though...
