Wow, I do like that card lol. Cube Module Replacement:
Moment's Peace --> Constant Mist
On another note, Zendikar updates are done. If something doesn't seem right or you have a card you think would be a better replacement, let me know
Allied Colored Karoos --> 5 Enemy Fetchs: While I like what Karoos bring to the cube, I like Fetchs more :-). They are being mitigated to the 180 card module instead of being removed entirely. Vinelasher Kudzu --> Lotus Cobra: The Cobra fits better into the ramping archetype I assigned green whereas the Kudzu just became big off of it. Its a great enabler and allows for some downright explosive plays when combined with many of the ramp cards and lands found in the cube. Dusk Urchins --> Vampire Nighthawk: Caters better to the more aggressive play I'd like to see in black while not at all detracting from the reanimation aspect I've assigned. Magus of the Scroll --> Goblin Guide - Less mana intensive and quicker ability to deal damage. Blood Knight --> Plated Geopede - Easier to splash and hits for more. Blistering Firecat --> Ruinous Minotaur - Less mana investment, lives for more turns, drawback is negligible late game / while blocking/getting blocked. Actually, his ability makes your opponent almost NOT want to block him so you'll have to sacrifice a land, which I find funny. Rorix Bladewing --> Hellkite Charger - Easier cost with an activated ability that wins the game next turn. Akroma, Angel of Wrath --> Iona, Shield of Emeria - So against all odds, white actually gets a better reanimation target than Akroma. Iona will singlehandedly shut down 1/2 of a decks spells on average. This gets even crazier in multiplayer. Eternal Dragon --> World Queller - Testing him out. Lower cmc and I like the control aspect this adds to white, not to mention that it's ability isn't a must. Dauthi Slayer --> Vampire Lascerator - Lower cmc and less intensive mana cost. Skeletal Vampire --> Ob Nixilis, the Fallen - This was probably the hardest cut. The vampire has been really good, but I think Ob will be even better. His ability to drop on turn six for 3 damage and being a 6/6 while growing every turn is to awesome to pass up. Buried Alive --> Disfigure - After looking through black, I noticed I was kind of lacking on the removal side. I have enough ways to get cards into the graveyard that I felt like this was a negligible cut.
Lol, I haven't had the chance to play with any card past conflux cause I've been deployed. Any cards in the cube past that expansion are in based purely off of what others have told me on this forum or stuff that I'd find interesting enough to test out. I'm coming home in about 1 month so once I get hands on with the new material it should become a bit tighter all around. As for now, the newer cards will probably stay unless someone can give me a very clear reason as to why they suck. Also, I replaced Moment's Peace with Constant Mists after all. I had forgotten that Moment's Peace made the cut.
Magus of the Scroll --> Goblin Guide - Less mana intensive and quicker ability to deal damage. The Magus deals damage without risking combat and can hit creatures. I'd find something else to replace with the Guide. Blood Knight --> Plated Geopede - Easier to splash and hits for more. Couldn't disagree more. Blood Knight is a great creature for red decks. Geopede is useless on any turn you don't drop a land. Blistering Firecat --> Ruinous Minotaur - Less mana investment, lives for more turns, drawback is negligible late game / while blocking/getting blocked. Actually, his ability makes your opponent almost NOT want to block him so you'll have to sacrifice a land, which I find funny. I don't think I agree with this, but I haven't tested the Minotaur. The firecat has great surprise potential, though, and morphs get better the more of them you run (within reason). Akroma, Angel of Wrath --> Iona, Shield of Emeria - So against all odds, white actually gets a better reanimation target than Akroma. Iona will singlehandedly shut down 1/2 of a decks spells on average. This gets even crazier in multiplayer. Needs testing. I doubt she is as good as Akroma. Dauthi Slayer --> Vampire Lascerator - Lower cmc and less intensive mana cost. And not evasive. If you are enabling MBA, look for something else to replace. Slayer is really good. I'd run both if I was looking to boost MBA in my Cube. Skeletal Vampire --> Ob Nixilis, the Fallen - This was probably the hardest cut. The vampire has been really good, but I think Ob will be even better. His ability to drop on turn six for 3 damage and being a 6/6 while growing every turn is to awesome to pass up. I think Ob Nixilis has a spot in Cube, but the Vampire is really good for control decks. A 3/3 regenerating flyer that makes chump blockers is pretty good I hear. This may end up being right, but I'm really hesitant to drop Skelly.
I think I agree with most of what Rantipole says, there. There's no way Iona can top Akroma, IMO, even though she is obviously good. Akroma doesn't need to shut down half their spells, she just kills 99.9% of known bacteria.
I'll be running many of those spells but only because my Cube's quite a lot larger than yours
I've had her Control Magicked, once. Those cases are equally likely with Iona. The only cards that can reliably deal with Akroma are blue, which are sorcery speed, or White's Path to Exile/Swords to Plowshares/Arrest type cards. If you play Akroma, they take 6 immediate damage, and have to either have the answer in hand immediately or topdeck it next turn. Iona doesn't have automatic protection from the two colours that are most likely to ruin your day. Also, Iona has to wait a whole turn to attack, can be molested by whatever is already on the board, and can be blocked and killed more easily due to the lack of trample and protection.
Iona I think is often better against monocolour decks (not always), whereas I believe Akroma is always better against two or more colours. Plus, it's a turn earlier that it comes out if you hardcast it. That = 12 damage to the face.
Simply put, Iona is a good card - but she isn't fit to shine Akroma's shoes. If I run her, it's because I run Akroma already and want another reanimation target.
I don't know how many of these changes I agree with. My comments are in bold; if I didnt' comment on a replacement I agree with it.
Magus of the Scroll --> Goblin Guide - Less mana intensive and quicker ability to deal damage. The Magus deals damage without risking combat and can hit creatures. Hey rant! Thanks for the reply I'll go through each comment and explain why I agree or not.
Magus of the Scroll - While he is amazing, he is also underdrafted in our group. I feel a more aggressive creature in this slot with work better not to mention the other three creatures populating my red 1cc slot are better than even Magus imo. Blood Knight - Alright I agree that Landfall has it's drawbacks, but red agro should win within the first couple of turns, so not having a land drop is going to be detrimental whether or not you have a landfall guy out or not. Once I test him out (read a couple posts back) I'll be able to make a better assessment of his abilities and if I feel he isn't up to par, then back Blood Knight goes Blistering Firecat - I do feel your wrong here. I think Ruinous Minotaur is going to shine. He has the ability to do much more than 7 damage, attacks on the same turn as the Firecat, and his drawback isnt that detrimental in the archetype he's used in. I do understand the whole including other morph creatures, but it's already at a point where people generally know what creature it is, so this isnt going to change anything. Akroma - Already agreed Dauthi Slayer - Yah I know... its just such a ***** to cut cards though >< Any other suggestions? Skeletal Vampire - He's been great in cube, I'm not denying that. But he IS the most likely card to get cut out of the cards in that slot...
My problem with the Minotaur is that he doesn't have Trample, he trades with Grizzly Bears, and he is negative card advantage whenever he does hit. Stunting your mana development in the early game is an easy way to fall behind, even if it does mean you are Lava Axeing their face. Maybe I'm just wrong on this guy, but I've never liked cards like Rogue Elephant or Plant Elemental (and the new Scythe Tiger) due to them wanting to be aggressive, but at the same time hindering how you come out the gates. I know this creature is somewhat different in that you aren't feeling the drawback unless you're hitting them, but it just feels like the upside isn't worth the drawback. Let us know if he proves otherwise, as I'd be interested to hear.

I think the evasion and haste on the firecat makes up for this. Also, doesn't cost you a land. I am interested in the Minotaur, though, just skeptical.
I'd cut the Stinkweed Imp or the Doomed Necromancer instead of the slayer; probably the Necromancer. I know reanimation is one of your main black themes, but I think the Necromancer is weak.

I agree with this. Stinkweek imp was cut from my cube some time ago, and i don't feel it's really good enough.

Great points Rant, I think I'm also going to lean towards Necromancer as I like the Imp as an enabler.
Ruinous Minotaur looks playable, but no way that it is better than Blistering Firecat.
Like I said, as soon as I try out the changes, any of the ones I dislike will get replaced with what I took out I've heard very good things about Ruinous Minotaur, I think people are severely underrating him. Or maybe I'm overrating him, who knows lol.
On another note, because Zendikar came out I've decided to increase the cube size to 405. I've found it has become to difficult to cut anything at all. I've updated the OP with the new cube and archived the old one. Here it is:
I've considerably lowered the average casting cost within the cube, getting each color (other than blue and green, though they are better now) at or below 3. Please let me know if I blatantly missed a great card. I used Usman's cube as a bit of a guideline since his seems very streamlined. It isn't a direct copy by any means though, as the color identities I assigned early this year are still intact. Thanks everyone and hope you enjoy! I'll be posting what was taken out and added at a later date. Just ran out of time today
No, this card is fantastic. It's an infest and a threat. It can also sweep the board faster than a Decree of Pain and leave you with a 4/3 beater. It's one of the first 10 or so black cards I search every cube list for.
(Nantuko Vigilante/Elephant Guide aren't this 3 drops?
Also the number of cards in the different artifact sections is wrong.)
But since you have that expansion, you can always move cards between it and your cube.
Thanks for the comment Eidolon Let me go over a couple of the suggestions you presented:
Celestial Crusader - I've tried this card out in my cube and have found it too slow more often than not. It's ability to flash into play is nice, but Pianna pumps more than just white creatures (albeit only when attacking) including herself and fits better into my curve. Cloudgoat Ranger - I absolutely love this card, but I cut it when my cube was smaller for the similiar Captain of the Watch for various reasons. This is definately a card I would add over Pianna
Scepter of Dominance / Sacred Mesa - While both being good cards, I only have two "Pacify" effects in the cube currently: Prison Term and Faith's Fetters. I've nothing to say but good things about both of them too. Sphinx of Jwar Isle - Now this is change I can get behind Great late game beater for blue along with being a lower cc than Arcanis. While he will always have a place in my heart, his triple blue cost is a little too restrictive and hinders the amount he's drafted.
Skeletal Vampire - Just cut this card recently when the cube was smaller, so this is a good place to reinstate him. I have the Imps in the cube as a means to enable reanimation, but I've recently added other discard outlets so I can nix the Putrid Imp and add the Vampire.
Oops, forgot about Burst Lightning. I don't play portal (sorry Fire Imp) and I had Squee in the cube, but didn't have many ways to take advantage of his ability. Also, I realized a couple days ago that I didn't have any red board sweepers, but then I forgot about it again...
Ruinous Minotaur looks playable, but no way that it is better than Blistering Firecat.
I agree with this. The firecat is great. Morph is a good bluff tool, and he's a gray ogre until you're ready to go "all in" with him. Something the other ball lightning clones don't provide you with.

Yah, I have both of them in the 405 cube now. I really do have high hopes for the minotaur though
Let us know how the minotaur works out. He's on my "watch list." (cards that I suspect are good enough for Cube).
I really don't understand how Celestial Crusader can fail to be good in Cube if the Cube supports WW. He really effs up the combat math when flashed in after blocks are declared. White doesn't have a lot of flash creatures, so opponents rarely see him coming.

Will do.
On Celestial Crusader, I'm pretty sure I had him in my cube before I supported ww as heavily. Maybe he'll be better now. I'll give him another shot if you and Wtwlf really had him make that good of an impression on ya. Academy Rector is the only thing I could see cutting atm... thoughts?

Probably it was a typo but I want to make sure I am not missing something. What can this guy do to mess combat calculations up when you flash him in after blockers are declared?:confused2:
Yeah, here's a thought: Don't cut Academy Rector Like, ever.
The Crusader is cool and does his job, but looking over your list, i don't think you can fit him in. You could cut one of the more expensive cards, preferably Archon of Justice or perhaps Captain of the Watch if you really want to.
Hmm, I really like both of those cards you mentioned lol. I guess since Cloudgoat is back in and since 3ww seems to fit the curve better than 4ww, I can cut him. Bye Captain of the Watch... /waves
Also, I was looking at Lim'dul's Vault and damn that card looks good. I was thinking of taking out Psychatog for it since it is rarely drafted by anyone. Thoughts?
Lim Duls Vault is a 'bad' Vampiric Tutor. Granted, the effect is still good, but i'd run monoblack tutors instead and keep the multicolored slots to unique cards that do something the monocolored cards can't. Like Psychatog.
Agreed.
First off, I wouldn't play Lim Dul's Vault. It's good, but not great.
Second, I wouldnt cut Psychatog. It's too good.
If the rest of your playgroup wants to cut a really good card that you want to keep in... here's the trick. YOU draft it, kill them with it, and then they'll want it to stay :D. I've had to use this trick on a few occasions to keep powerful (but for some reason unpopular) cards IN the cube.

Fire Imp/ Squee, Goblin Nabob > Ashling the Pilgrim?
Yes. Both of those cards are better than Ashling, IMO.

Pianna, Nomad Champion --> Cloudgoat Ranger
Scepter of Dominance / Sacred Mesa - While both being good cards, I only have two "Pacify" effects in the cube currently: Prison Term and Faith's Fetters. I've nothing to say but good things about both of them too.
Sphinx of Jwar Isle - Now this is change I can get behind Great late game beater for blue along with being a lower cc than Arcanis. While he will always have a place in my heart, his triple blue cost is a little too restrictive and hinders the amount he's drafted.
Arcanis, the Omnipotent --> Sphinx of Jwar Isle
Skeletal Vampire - Just cut this card recently when the cube was smaller, so this is a good place to reinstate him. I have the Imps in the cube as a means to enable reanimation, but I've recently added other discard outlets so I can nix the Putrid Imp and add the Vampire.
Putrid Imp --> Skeletal Vampire
Bane of the Living - See wtwtf's post
Oops, forgot about Burst Lightning. I don't play portal (sorry Fire Imp) and I had Squee in the cube, but didn't have many ways to take advantage of his ability. Also, I realized a couple days ago that I didn't have any red board sweepers, but then I forgot about it again...
Rift Bolt --> Burst Lightning
Boom/Bust --> Pyroclasm
@ Elephant Guide and Nantuko Vigilante: Yes, yes they are.
I will also fix the artifact sections. Thanks for all the great advice

I really don't understand how Celestial Crusader can fail to be good in Cube if the Cube supports WW. He really effs up the combat math when flashed in after blocks are declared. White doesn't have a lot of flash creatures, so opponents rarely see him coming.
Cheers,

I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
I managed to miss the +1/+1 part, only saw the Flash and split second...
I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
I do love Celestial Crusader, and have lost a couple of games due to him. My T4 block on Doran, the Siege Tower with Plague Sliver went sour went this guy hit the other side of the table.
On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
Hmm, I really like both of those cards you mentioned lol. I guess since Cloudgoat is back in and since 3ww seems to fit the curve better than 4ww, I can cut him. Bye Captain of the Watch... /waves
Captain of the Watch --> Celestial Crusader
Also, I was looking at Lim'dul's Vault and damn that card looks good. I was thinking of taking out Psychatog for it since it is rarely drafted by anyone. Thoughts?
