I like posting cube pictures, so here's some (a bit too much glare) from a 4 man draft I did about a week ago (5 packs of 9).
(Tormented Hero, Carrion Feeder, Goblin Shortcutter, Grafted Wargear are the most glared ones)
Here's two of the other decks from the table, I neglected to get a picture of the last one - it was a blue based control deck with a half billion counterspells and some Man-O'-War effects.
(Fyndhorn Elves, Kird Ape, Wolfir Avenger, Genju of the Spires, Staggershock, Predator's Howl)
Couldn't quite get a draft going because people instead opted for some legacy games and it quickly got to the point where it was pushing "too" late to start a draft.
Just did a grid draft with one of the guys and played a match (which he won 2-0, with me taking a third game).
Glad to hear it! Certainly keeps it more interesting for me.
I just need to figure out a better lighting solution. I was gonna build a lightbox before I moved.. maybe I'll have to do that now that I'm more settled.
Anyways, some updates today for the new Commander series.
The curses have always been right on the edge for me. They're insanely powerful and often oppressive because removing enchantments is rough in cube. Great Oak might prove to be overwhelming too, but we shall see. I feel like they can fill similar roles in select decks.
Frostburn is kind of redundant now that I'm playing Nivix Cyclops - the decks that want a 1/4 blocker still have one, and I'd like to try Gelectrode out.
Satyr Nyx-Smith was a card I had on hand, but wasn't thrilled to add. Going to try Generator Servant in that slot, they both seem kind of gimmicky.
Blighted Woodland was kind of *****, 5 mana is a lot for a Rampant Growth. Going to try Tracker's Instincts there instead, plays into that whole "graveyard matters" theme I'm looking to push. I consider it like 75% a green card, flashing it back is just a bonus sometimes.
Bonesplitter is an awesome card, but I don't think I want it, Trusty Machete, and Grafted Wargear - so I'm keeping the same mana/equip cost and reducing the aggressiveness of the card a bit. Also looks like it should be more appealing to a wider range of decks.
Got a beta disenchant in the mail! That's one less card to correct the edition for.
(I'll get a better lighting setup eventually. I only have 1 light source in the best room for this, so glare is always a problem.)
Yet again legacy doesn't fire.
Oh well, Cube is better on a local scale anyways (legacy with so few people gets stale).
The Storm player of the room asked if my cube supported storm, I told him it really didn't, but we made a deal that he could get a 0th pick Mind's Desire to try and find out. So that was interesting.
Here's his list, with its relevant sideboard - which was varied enough to warrant discussion. We talked and agreed he really needed a big threat, which I said should have at least involved Murder of Crows.
and here's UB - pretty sure he went 2-1
On of the coolest GW aggro decks I've seen, which I think was hurt by playing too many tapped non-basics for unneeded fixing. Great Oak Guardian is indeed ridiculous. I might be playing too many token producers in my cube to even consider running it. If it didn't have flash at least you could play around the extra 10+ points it sometimes generates. It ends the game on the spot whether on offense or defense.
BW with 'Tog. He won a game where he Momentary Blinked his Grey Merchant, then flashed it back and did it again.
and my deck, RW aggro.
Went 3-0 in the 3 matches I had time to play proving yet again that direct damage really gives these aggressive red decks an absurd late game. Between Shrine, Fireball, and direct damage like Pierce Strider and Fireblast, it's tough for other decks to compete if they don't have a great start.
UB: looks good to great, but can't imagine a world in which a 10 island deck should sideboard Control Magic
GW: Is this a 41-card deck? Yikes. I'd love to see what else is in the pool, since basically every possible white card in your cube seems like better choices than most of the green stuff here (obv excluding the Huge Tree)... it has three lands to T1 a Utopia Sprawl, and four to T1 a Jungle Lion! Nine lands that mess up a Dragon Hunter into WW curve!
BW: You (yes, not "you" but your drafted here) have two discard outlets, one of which is contingent on having an unblocked creature? Seems like a pretty bad deck for double Eldrazi -- you can just use the reanimation stuff on your high-quality 4 and 5 mana dudes. Also related to great 4/5 drops, play the Mind Stone!
RW: if this deck doesn't want War Horn, then you should probably stop cubing War Horn. Still like a easily believable 3-0, though!
Yeah, both of the blue guys drafted Control Magic effects into their sideboard, with was strange to me seeing as it's generally a condition-less double removal spell.
Storm man was pleased with the amount of card draw in his deck. It was a fun experiment, I wouldn't be against doing it again in the future. My cube doesn't have the greatest storm support, but it was entertaining at least.
GW has such a solid pool of cards, but I think there are some building issues. It is indeed 41 cards. His sideboard doesn't have much else going on, it looked like he had been in green/black for a while (Catacomb Sifter and some Doom Blade effect being the notable pieces), so he wound up with a narrow set of in color playables.
BW man likes to do that - play to the narrow chance the stars align. I'd have liked to have seen one of the Eldrazi (at least) cut.
RW, War Horn was very close on this deck, but I felt like the number of non-creature spells I had was high enough already. I think red suffers from that fairly often... It has enough direct damage to reduce the need for "potential damage" in the form of War Horn. The white/black aggro/tokens decks seem to want it more.
Got a 6-man draft together on Monday, with a relatively new player joining us. So that was an interesting experience, seeing how he evaluated a lot of old cards he had never heard of.
Everyone seemed to have deeper sideboards than usual. I guess we had a lot of people commit to their colors early this time around.
2-1, My deck, couldn't quite pull it out against turn 4 Pelakka Wurm and Great Oak Blowout.
3-0, Great Oak is nuts.
3-1 I think?
The new guy. His highlight of the night was Act of Treason-ing a Pelakka Wurm and Berserking it.
I know grid drafts give you some pretty wonky pools to build from, but I can't imagine that you want Aether Adept in a six-blue-source deck. I'd cut that and probably also Coiling Oracle for Dismember and... something. Wurm, the Wall, or something else on-color not shown in the photo.
The BW deck is also weird -- the classic Shred-Freak / Unburial Rites pairing. I don't really see a lot of "good" draws for the deck unless you hit Cutthroat / Aristocrat for a big combo finish.
Decl 1: Is Celestial Crusader not gonna be insane for the deck? With 13 white creatures, I'd definitely put it in over either Lightning Helix or Boros Charm.
Deck 2: I definitely like Slime/Summoner over the two Eldrazi, especially since there's a couple of flicker effects. Either way, looks like a nearly A+ version of GW ramp, though. Not sure about the reanimate spell... great late if something big has died, but I think I'd rather have a Splicer as a "don't die on T4" spell.
Deck 3: I don't think the black splash is worth the mana strain -- cut swamps, Strix, Terminate for any two of the quality blue cards left in sideboard. Probably Mind Control and Dismember.
Deck 4: As part of the recurring theme, looks like a mostly solid BW deck needlessly stretched for iffy green cards.
Deck 5: Two forests, two 1-drop Elves? And not particularly good red cards. Cut Riders, Beetleback... add Epic and Ashes... cut a bunch of mountains and Tec Edge for more green.
Deck 6: Lots of ways to put threats out fast, little removal or reach though (but the couple of can't-block effects do help). I think I'd definitely cut Vivids for two more mountains (or possibly one of each), though. If you draw ONE forest, you're basically set for the whole game. Wait, speaking of lands... was this player using NINETEEN? I assume there was an error on your dice, since there's 25 spells shown as mainboard cards.
Correct on all counts, Deck 6 was our new guy. We recommended 16-18 lands in a 40-card deck, but I think he miscounted and forgot to include his nonbasic lands as part of that number. It is, in fact, 19 lands.
About the BW deck, I asked him why he didn't play Knight of Infamy - and he was not a fan of the card. Which confused me.
I had trouble with my RW deck this time around, it really wanted to be as white as possible. I can definitely see cutting one of the spells for Crusader, I might have done Hissing Igunuar first - wasn't quite as necessary as I had thought it would be.
Yeah, it was game-ending nearly every time it was played. Regardless of whether the person was ahead of behind. Flash just made it too difficult to interact with and really was more just annoying than interesting.
I'm going to probably continue to tone down the power level on some cards in my cube. There are a few problem areas I still have, like an overabundance of Mind Control effects.
September 17th, 2016 - 8 Man Draft @ Tuskvitational 2016
The Tuskvitational was this weekend at Rib Ranch BBQ. Invite Only - 35 people for Legacy, Food, lots of Booze. Also got an 8-man cube draft in with people that weren't doing the evening Vintage.
Some of the decks got taken apart before I got a full photo, some of them had relevant sideboard cards that I forgot to include, but the general idea is here.
Really quick, bad pictures while I was taking everything back apart for two guys playing off the top and rapidly running out of cards.
Thanks! Got a couple more a couple weeks ago, like a Sylvan Library to replace the one black signed I had gotten rid of months ago and some good looking Betas.

Unfortunately, I've only gotten maybe a third or so of the signatures myself. Networking to get the rest is part of the fun too, though.
