Apparently these popped up in a DOM pack? Might as well get this spoiler thread going... Looks like swarm will be getting more support; Goblin Instigator is Mogg War Marshal-lite, and Dwarven Priest looks like it could be fun. I also like Dwindle but probably won't find a slot for it unless I push an auras theme more. Not sure how to link images from that thread into this one.
Here are two of the more than two reasons they are bringing it back:
"Second, the core sets allowed us to make relevant cards in a set outside the world where they made sense. Need a Goblin lord a year later to help out a Goblin-themed deck based on the trip to Goblin World from the previous year? The core set could do that. Its looseness in theme allowed it more flexibility to create the exact card Standard needs.
Third, as I explained in my "Ramp of Approval" column, our goal was to make a sequence of products to help provide a smooth transition into Magic for new players. It turns out our ramp ended up having too much of a gap because we were missing a booster product aimed at the less-enfranchised players."
Notice how the goblin theme in dominaria is very poorly handled? The core set should have been where they put warchief and prospector, instead of shoehorning it into a set that didn't need them
but why a new core set? i thought they got dismissed (again). god, maro has to get fired.
First, we've known about M19 for quite a while now, so I don't know why you seem surprised by this. Second, why complain about new Magic cards of any kind? I hate multiplayer Magic, but I am psyched to see what Battlebond gives us. Core sets are historically fun limited formats and some of the best cards in cube have come from MXX sets.
They abandoned core sets because they dont sell well. Then they learned that they serve a more important purpose than expected.
Maro hasnt been off base for years. There are missteps, and I don't like his position on mana problems *at all*, but he's fine.
If you really want to avoid us, there's a block button. The last time you got into a quagmire with me the thread got shut down because it got aggressive. Sorta like writing in all caps and screaming go away.
But there's nothing aggressive or derogatory or accusatory in what I said. You don't own the space, and so long as I'm being constructive you have no right to get petulant and yell at me.
I basically never talk about pauper cube stuff. I don't know the format. But a magic related tangent? That isn't related directly to pauper? You started the tangent, anyone can chime in.
Wow, I thought this was a public forum. You realize peasant cubes run common cards too, right? So far for M19, we literally only have these common card spoilers, so it makes perfect sense that us peasant cubers would take a peak at this thread if for no other reason than to check these spoilers.
You should follow Magic's future plans because you're a fan of the game, maybe? Even if you only play cube, you should be interested in what's coming up in the future. Like I said before, I have no interest in multiplayer Magic, but I'm looking forward to Battlebond and what it gives to cube. Why would you not get excited for future releases of the game you play?
You started this derail discussion by asking about core sets and calling for Maro to be fired. I only commented specifically because of the off topic derail that you started.
So far for M19, we literally only have these common card spoilers, so it makes perfect sense that us peasant cubers would take a peek at this thread if for no other reason than to check these spoilers.
to have a look at the public spoiler you can go to the rumor mill..
you only come here, because our community is too small for mtgsalvation to give us our own sub. every time you guys came to our topics it ended in a disaster because you just ninja comment without being asked on snippets of a conversation. it like going to a pub, hear parts of some discussion at a table and then disturbing the conversation without being asked and not knowing the people or their general opinions.
also you guys dont just state your own opinion, but you start attacking other peoples opinions. thats rude, bad-mannered and uncalled for.
and no, i dont follow mtg news for years, since i play since 1995 and cubing is my only interest in the game left because of so many unwanted, unnecessary or just plain stupid changes. its early enough to notice the new things when spoiler season starts. i dont have to be a fanboy to enjoy what is left of the original game.
Peasant is much more active, which still surprises me at a time when Pauper constructed is getting more and more hype tbh.
This surprises me too. I wonder what's wrong with peasant constructed?
/
I basically only play cube now too, besides when my roommate and I draft a bunch on modo, but I keep abreast of the news.
With the exception of mythic rares and incidents like not providing interaction with energy counters, Magic has almost been on a straight ramp of improvement or stability for over a decade at least. Even mythics ended up making drafts better (by pushing unhealthy cards to the margins of an environment).
But no, I know you don't think most of the improvements are good. I know your general opinion, as we've had what you could call interaction for years.
And if you dont think I know the people in here, I do. Well, at least a couple of the more.. Recognizable personalities.
Edit
Oh my, a post got removed. It looks like cali and I are just ranting at air lol.

I do guess the new dragon fodder isn't really worth whatever small creature synergy it gets you. It's not like you're happy to use an unearth on this.
4-5 year lurker here. Does anyone even appreciate Humphrey? He always seems to cause conflict. Aside from that, Dwarven Priest looks awesome for swarm/token decks.
Edit: I'll eat my words if I am wrong about Humphrey.
It doesn't matter whether I or others agree with you or not, this type of 'public shaming' doesn't do anyone any good anywhere. The best thing you can do is lead by example and not feed into the BS, something we all could do a better job of here, and when it gets bad report it to the mods and not take policing into our own hands as that tends to be more adding gas than water to the flames.
The ignore button exists for a reason, if a user bothers another user that much they should do us all a favor (most of all, themselves) and use that button.
the sad thing about it, that the mod here is totally fine with such behavior. meanwhile everytime i tell them to stay to their own business i get a warning. i wish we had a better place than this.
, this type of 'public shaming' doesn't do anyone any good anywhere. The best thing you can do is lead by example
I'm actually not sure if I agree with this sentiment in all cases. To say that there is never a point where calling someone out is valid I think is being too optimistic.
I do mean this in a general sense, not necessarily one way or another about the issue at hand.
a pub is an open space as well, yet your not going to someone you dont know and start harrassing him when you pick up a sentence you dont like. now you peasant guys even start creating new accounts to incite against me. but i guess basic rules of behavior dont apply here, because its the internet.
again, it would be totally fine if you would respond like: i think maro did a great job, because...
instead you start being aggressive against my opinion. but whatevs, can you please put me on ignore, since the forum software doesnt allow me to block other from reading my comments.
the sad thing about it, that the mod here is totally fine with such behavior. meanwhile everytime i tell them to stay to their own business i get a warning. i wish we had a better place than this.
You're as much a part of the problem as anyone here if not more, let's not act otherwise. Like, if you were a bit more reasonable in your conversation and not so quick to get heated about everything--and a lot of the time quick to be defensive and take an us/me vs them mindset--then there isn't a lurker whose 1st or 2nd comment after 4-5 years of lurking is about *you* being a detriment. This doesn't just coincidentally happen solely with you and not everyone else, you know? Like, I get that it sucks hearing this, but come on man it's time to take some responsibility for your own actions and attitude and stop acting like you have nothing to own up to or no mindset of your own to change. Maybe people disagree with you because they think you're wrong for solid reasons, and that's OK? Or you're OK to use the ignore button yourself instead of continuing to get into arguments with so many of the people on here? Like, come on man.
And then there's this:
now you peasant guys even start creating new accounts to incite against me.
No one gives enough of a ***** to make a new account just to mock you, let's use Occam's Razor here instead of tinfoil hats. If you're that paranoid about this place, it might be time to start asking some questions about what you think people have time for or care about; or figure out a way to *not* think like that, because it's frankly absurd to read that sentence and to even fathom the idea to entertain whether or not it's true. If people were really doing that, I'd consider quitting the forums because that's insane, more insane than thinking that's happening.
------------------------
@Leelue, I'm more speaking about here in general, I'm not equating this with more serious matters where knowledge of the acts for everyone are essential. Excuse me for that miscommunication, I agree that some people need to have their ***** aired out as a warning to others. However, it hurts our image when Humphreys constantly gets into arguments with so many people here, so I think in general it's not the best to feed into the BS. The only reason I'm continuing here is cause he thinks I'm supporting him and acting like he's not at fault at all, which is clearly not that case.
the way i see it, i have constructive discussions with the pauper community here for years and although sometimes we disagree or topics heat up we are reasonable with each other. and then there is the peasant community who for whatever reasonst picked me as their bullying target and every once in a while start harrassing me to a point where it escalates. so no, i dont see i am a problem and you do victim blaming here. like its totally reasonable to create a new account just to bully someone.
the way i see it, i have constructive discussions with the pauper community here for years and although sometimes we disagree or topics heat up we are reasonable with each other. and then there is the peasant community who for whatever reasonst picked me as their bullying target and every once in a while start harrassing me to a point where it escalates. so no, i dont see i am a problem and you do victim blaming here. like its totally reasonable to create a new account just to bully someone.
Are you honestly saying that at no point you are responsible to any degree for any of these disagreements or escalations? I'm not going to sit here and lay it all on your shoulders because I get it's not all you, but you're lying to yourself if you think you're free of any blame in all of this. At no point before you decided to get annoyed at their disagreeing were they being rude--they disagreed, and I agree with why they disagreed, and more so their tone was fair and they used examples. What, are we not allowed to disagree with you anymore? What part about what they said hurt your feelings?
And while it's totally *possible* to create a new account to harass someone, it's not *reasonable* at all. Like come on dude, wake the **** up and realize how ******* *insane* you sound. It's crazy to even think what you're saying! There are like 15-20 of us here! Who needs to shame you like this?!?!?!?!?!?!
in my area only the diehard longtime ex-eternal players are interested in cubing at all. although normal limited finds players somewhat regularly, they rather throw money at wizards to gamble on the lottery than to improve their drafting and deckbuilding skills in a much deeper environment (for free)... so talk about swallowing here..
the rest has abandoned all formats and just plays edh for hours...
so yeah, i dont see pauper constructed becoming a push factor for pauper cubing, especially it only seems to really take off on modo. its makes me mad and sad that modo doesnt support casual cubing, there would be so much potential.
guys I'm going to remind everyone to be civil. And yes, he doesn't react in the best way when he's triggered, but it's also not necessary to trigger him intentionally. It does seem pretty obvious that you're picking him out and enjoy his offended reactions, so that doesn't make you much better than him to begin with, no matter if his reactions are right or not. If you know someone will overreact you should just not give them a reason to, and not create a stage on a public forum where uninvolved and totally unnecessary people will make comments about getting popcorn.
I object to the use of the words "picking on" and "triggering" here. Humphrey does not have Magic PTDS. He's not getting triggered, he chooses to respond on an online forum. In the same way disagreeing with him isn't the same as picking on him.
If you have strong opinions you have to be prepared for the fact that people will respond strongly to those opinions, especially if they're as negative and (frankly) melodramatic as many of Humphrey's (who somehow still finds plenty of new cards to cube with, even though Magic has apparently been thoroughly ruined a decade ago). That's just as true as posting comments about popcorn is unnecessary and as creating accounts just to troll Humphrey is not ok.
At the same time, if you (generally speaking, not you in particular) realize that the culture of a place actually makes you feel bad, you should probably try to work to effect some change (and that includes own behaviour) if that place is important to you, instead of carrying on as before.
yeah i chose to respond and actually i can live with some heated discussions. the problem starts when you guys escalate the situation and then call for the mod to regulate me. so i hope ulka gets a better view on things going on here.
and as said, there is a difference in saying: my opinion on that topic is.... contrary to: your opinion is false/melodramatic/negative/...
but yeah, you guys are nerds and on the internet, so you dont even notice how triggering your behavior is and again your picking up on me, because i dont need to change to fit in, because you guys are the random troublemakers that dont belong to our pauper community. i repeat myself..
that said im not the only one who is unhappy with the state of magic. over there at thesource there is a 80page long topic whats wrong with magic. there is a reason why i stick to pauper cubes (and flavor ones), because you cant do much harm on that powerlevel and i can create an environment that plays "right".
but the powercreep and gamedesign on the higher rarities has gone insane. if you guys would be so involved with magic as you behave, you would have noticed the massive bannings in standard, the decline of all sanctionized formats, the death of legacy, the insane price spikes on older cards, especially reserved ones. not to mention ugly legendary borders and so on and so on... i dont even want to mention again how the removal of manaburn affects vintage and casual.
and thats why i am so mad at maro, the abolishment of coresets and the reintroduction is typical for his management of magic. he always wants to "improve" things, make them more "optimized" without noticing how he slowly but steady decreases complexity and soul of the game. magic is a complex system with many weaves and he is unable to understand that. on top of that every aspect of the game shows that it has become all about profit. half assed masters sets (nothing iconic at all), cheap and stinky printings, curling, cheap artworks....
the problem starts when you guys escalate the situation and then call for the mod to regulate me. so i hope ulka gets a better view on things going on here.
I reported your aggressive post that used ALL CAPS to let us know we weren't welcome in your pauper threads. If that post was removed because of that, then the reasoning is valid. You are on a public forum. Anyone is allowed to post. Telling someone otherwise, especially in all caps is rude and uncalled for.
and as said, there is a difference in saying: my opinion on that topic is.... contrary to: your opinion is false/melodramatic/negative/...
I don't feel like either Leelue or I made statements in that vein and if you took it that way, then I sincerely apologize. To go back to the original statements, I just don't understand how someone who plays this wonderful game, even if only in cube form, could completely ignore the game's future releases.
you guys are the random troublemakers that dont belong to our pauper community. i repeat myself..
First, no one came in here to make trouble for you or anyone else. Legitimately Leelue and I both clicked the thread for the M19 spoilers. It happened to be the first place I'd seen anything about these spoilers and I was genuinely curious if there would be images or links to images of them. Again, I only commented to begin with because you went off topic calling for Maro to be fired.
Second, telling people they don't belong in your community should be worthy of at least a warning in a public forum. I'll reiterate that and tell you this is a public forum. Anyone's cousin's wife's uncle who's never even heard of Magic let alone pauper cube can register and respond to your posts. This is unlikely, but completely within the rules here. If you had left your comments solely to how good (or bad) these spoiled cards would have been in pauper cube and not derailed into Maro doing a bad job, we wouldn't be having this back and forth. I don't want to speak for Leelue, but I certainly would have browsed the thread and left without saying a word because I don't know how these cards might perform in pauper cube. I wasn't here to participate in pauper cube discussion, I was only browsing for the spoilers.
that said im not the only one who is unhappy with the state of magic. over there at thesource there is a 80page long topic whats wrong with magic.
There's a ton wrong with Magic. A metric ***** ton. I'm sure we probably even agree on several of the things I think is wrong with the game right now. I haven't seen anyone telling you that Magic is great right now. Just because I get excited for new sets doesn't mean I don't have plenty of opinions on what's wrong with the game as well. It's not all rainbows and roses and I don't think anyone insinuated that in response to your posts.
yeah its back and forth, especially on the part how to behave on so called public forums.
this forum is a meeting point on the internet to help find people other people that share the same interest. its working like the marketplace in town. but the moment you go to a subforum of a subforum it becomes only semipublic. because certain communities meet there regularly and discuss topics under their label. so, we (pauper guys or peasant guys) are like a small group of people standing in the corner of said marketplace. would you just gatecrash their conversations, just because the marketplace is a public forum? certainly not, especially when the guy you are talking to makes it clear he doesnt want to talk to you. yeah sure, he cant forbid you to continue talking to him (by law), but who is the person thats rude? and then you call the cops because he gets upset?
its basically the same scenario i described with the pub. maybe you understand it this time?
just because youre on the internet, that doesnt mean basic social behaviours wont apply.
it actually feels really weird that its necessary to explain that to grown ups.
Well I'll be the first to say I'm sorry for not believing about the gimmick account. That's pretty...not great, at all, and it's not something I'd like to be a part of. I may not agree with a lot of the rest, but truly my bad there.

I don't feel like either Leelue or I made statements in that vein and if you took it that way, then I sincerely apologize. To go back to the original statements, I just don't understand how someone who plays this wonderful game, even if only in cube form, could completely ignore the game's future releases.
Couldn't this same statement be turned back around toward you? C'mon, man.
It's not all rainbows and roses and I don't think anyone insinuated that in response to your posts.

this forum is a meeting point on the internet to help find people other people that share the same interest. its working like the marketplace in town. but the moment you go to a subforum of a subforum it becomes only semipublic. because certain communities meet there regularly and discuss topics under their label. so, we (pauper guys or peasant guys) are like a small group of people standing in the corner of said marketplace. would you just gatecrash their conversations, just because the marketplace is a public forum? certainly not, especially when the guy you are talking to makes it clear he doesnt want to talk to you. yeah sure, he cant forbid you to continue talking to him (by law), but who is the person thats rude? and then you call the cops because he gets upset?
its basically the same scenario i described with the pub. maybe you understand it this time?
just because youre on the internet, that doesnt mean basic social behaviours wont apply.
it actually feels really weird that its necessary to explain that to grown ups.
