Oblivion Ring effects are the only cards we have, and not all of us are playing very many of them. If you have to remove six or seven loyalty counters with burn, you're spending massive amounts of resources. Black doesn't have any of the "or target planeswalker" removal spells, because they're rare or otherwise unplayable for us. Blue doesn't have anything besides a massively expensive Control Magic for permanents. Green doesn't have anything. So... yay, we're safe?
Hi gang! First timer, hopefully not last timer here. Just let me start out by stating that this subsection has been invaluable for me, when designing my CU/be. Keep up the good work!
Watching spoilers and wondering if there's any love for Eternal Skylord ?
It does seem to find a spot in blink decks and saboteurs, and I support both strategies. Is it good enough on its own in these shells, or does it need tribal token support? To me, it looks like goodstuff material as well. What do you guys think?
Blue is pretty tight, and in that respect, I do not think it quite gets there by sheer power level alone. I will likely not include Eternal Skylord, but with enough Amass support and other zombie tokens (Eternalize, Rise from the Tides, etc.), it might make the cut because it both has a decent floor as a generic card and good impact in the right deck.
I think kasmina could have a place. She defends herself two different ways, and thus likely gets her two activations in.
Eternal skylord doesn't compare well to talrand's invocation or wing splicer. Blinking it may just put two counters on the specific token too, which seems underwhelming
True. Blinking a Wing Splicer is more powerful for sure. Feels like we're disregarding the 3/3 part with that comparison, but then again it does have a higher cost. The gap between CMC 4 and 5 seems particularly huge. And I don't even run Wing Splicer anymore. Ah well, perhaps if we get 3-4 more zombie token effect staples. As of right now, Rise from the Tides seems to fit into a different strategy altogether, and Curse of Shallow Graves is busted enough on its own.
Thanks for the feedback. Still might end up trying it (600 cube dis'n'dat), but definitely not sure anymore.
edit: just remembered that there is a functional reprint of the curse: Curse of Disturbance. Might be of interest in this scenario.
Her static ability is amazing but her -2 isn't actually that useful most of the time. Red isn't really my artifact colour.
I am leaning towards adding them though but kind of because my hybrid cards are kind of bad.
Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor is also great, giving all your creatures the frost titan ability is great, and I like having more tokens in blue its a rare effect.
I really like both new PW, not only because of their powerlevel but also because they are hybrid and interesting.
Dovin is very annoying for the opponent and buys you a lot of time. Just think about mythic Kiora.
Saheeli has a very good static ability and creates artifacts herself which you can turn into your best creature with her -2.
Eh... she is 5 mana to give your red creatures +1 power, your pointed burn a very narrow boost, and your dividable burn a very scary bonus.
With maybe two sorcery speed shocks attached.
Im not into it
Those shocks needed to be bolts, or she needed 1-2 more loyalty.
Kasmina seems strong. Though it's hard to judge how easily the second activation goes off and how relevant the tax is.
Eternal Skylord is decent if you want a second Wing Splicer; there aren't enough zombie tokens to want it outside of that.
Dovin is life gain attached to a tax. He's probably at a decent power level, but I don't like either part of the gameplay he supports.
Jaya only seems playable in mono-red, and even then a +1/+0 anthem is really weak.
Saheeli seems great. She's another Young Pyromancer that doesn't die as easily. Her minus isn't the best, but copying a Young Pyromancer to get 3 triggers per spell is pretty dumb.
Whats your opinion on Law-Rune Enforcer?
Not tapping tokens can be annoying but the stats and cmc coast are pretty sweet for a tapper.
I kind of like that he doesn`t hit everything, because I don`t enjoy running functional reprints or cards that are to close to another.
Maybe I´ll add him as additional tapper.
i really like saheeli, and am glad to continue going ham on the spellslinger deck, cos it's my favourite.
jaya honestly doesn't seem that bad, she's just one mana too expensive imo.
dovin doesn't seem that great to me, i don't think bubbling things is very strong considering the removal suite available to us, and the tax is not really something i want i think.
kasmina seems like she does a ton of work. a baseline of slow talrand's invocation with a trade of evasion for looting is ok, and protecting your whole board from removal is pretty good honestly.
Well well! More PWs to test out! Mostly impressed with the new iteration of Saheeli. Kasmina is also definitely coming with me. On the fence with regards to Dovin. He protects himself and he sure seems a little annoying. Also, he costs but one split mana. All that said and done he doesn't really strike me as a card that leads to fun interactions. I think I might try Law-Rune Enforcer over Gideon's Lawkeeper for a little while. The colorless activation cost is really nice, and, if nothing else, it might teach new players about Hour of Need, Rite of the Raging Storm, Beast Attack and Roar of the Wurm.
Jaya is an easy pass for me, though. Red five-drops need to be either very aggressive or very interesting in my experience.
It's been overshadowed a bit by the flashy planeswalkers, but Jaya's Greeting is another interesting addition to the suite of burn options available. I've recently cut a lot of my straightforward red burn both in an attempt to power down the removal landscape as well as just reduce redundant and boring cards like Searing Spear and Lighting Strike, but Greeting occupies the space between those and something like Magma Jet in a way that gives it a slight niche. The downside of missing players is a consideration if you are concerned, as I was, about the dynamic of red or red splashing control/midrange decks scooping the burn away from aggressive red decks, as this is more attractive to those decks, making it less likely that a red aggro deck gets rewarded by picking it up on the wheel.

bad, already goldmeadow harrier and the likes... the 1/2 body doesn't make a difference when you are using it to tap
I am excited to test a lot of these PWs, looking forward to the full list of this set... always 1 or 2 sleepers at the end
I misread Saheeli, Sublime Artificer when I first saw the card and completely dismissed her. I didn't realize that her -2 can turn artifacts into creatures as well until EoT. She's not a definite include, but she’s better than originally thought.
Being young pyromancer that is more prolific and probably harder to kill in the early game makes her a definite include for me. She just sits there making guys without ever needing to touch that 5 loyalty, which is pretty spice.
I think law rune enforcer is perfectly reasonable if you're already interested in goldmeadow harrier. Not hitting roar of the wurm sucks, but not being value against divisible burn, banewhip punisher if anyone runs that, or darkblast is more than nothing.
Topple the Statue
I don´t think its quite there, but for a common in white i appreciate the design. Hope to see more like this, white card design tends to be a little bit boring in my opinion, effective but boring. This is quite versatile.
Reminds me of Crippling Chill with a creative twist.
If they'd themed it even *slightly* more broadly, say, "Topple the Monolith" it could have been "destroy artifact or legendary" which would have been boss.

Has an annoying static ability and defends himself well.

Edit: Oh you said that already. Ignore me.
I'm much less interested in Jaya, a conditional red 5-drop... hard to imagine it making the cut in a lot of decks

Saheeli is an important step towards the mythical "Artifacts Matter" archetype, and I think she's good enough on her own too.
Draft it on Cubetutor here, and CubeCobra here.
Treasure Cruise did nothing wrong.
