Wee, got the first winner. That 1R deals 3 to a creature, Scry1 is definitely the most efficient removal they've printed at common for a while and as such it should just be borderline playable in Cube.
Interesting place between Incinerate variants and Magma Jet. I think I'll still play Incinerate and Magma Jet over it, though it may be better and/or at least more interesting than the 3rd copy of Incinerate (Lightning Strike / Searing Spear).

"Someday, someone will best me. But it won't be today, and it won't be you."
Law-Rune Enforcer actually seems better than Gideon's Lawkeeper. You rarely want to tap a 1 drop and being a 1/2 and only requiring 1 instead of W really makes a difference.
Damn, I misread that dude and thought it said greater than 2.
Yeah, that's definitely a massive upgrade over the ones we have and a noticeable power creep in general. Maybe they were holding some of their 'new and interesting commons' spoilers back initially.

I guess they figure it will be ok for WAR since it can't tap tokens, but it is pretty strong for a common
the burn spell is fine i guess, even for aggro who wants to remove blocker. but right now the density of quality burn is so high, i wont find a spot (in t1)
and generally spoken, burn that also hits face it much better.
Tapper is the first real upgrade then. Nice. I like that its still a soldier.

Trying to think of the most relevant token the new tapper misses in pauper. Elephant Ambush? Nothing major off the top of my head.
Well I think it just shows, that they really pushed the powerlevel and amount of interesting effects on commons, just as they announced, so this is a very good sign for the future. Even without everything being spoiled yet, the set already has a ton of potential cubeables, especially compared to the last sets: Burning Prophet: Solid for spells matter. Law-Rune Enforcer: Not just equal to the existing 1 mana tappers, but actually better most of the time. Spellgorger Weird: A better Pyre Hound. Jaya's Greeting: A very solid removal. Chandra's Pyrohelix: Reprint of Twin Bolt, which was always decent. Band Together: Probably the best green removal spell to date. Bloom Hulk: 4 mana 4/4 for 3G with relevant upside.
im still the negative guy on this set here. the only really interesting upgrade is the tap guy. the weird might play fine in the spells matters deck as well, but ill probably wont exchange it over any other 3 drop i run.
Twinbolt turned out pretty lame in my cubes and is now T3. Pyrohelix is also not a new card and has been around for a while.
Band together, yeah. Depending on the rules in the end it might be decent to still pretty bad compared to other colors removal.
Bloom Hulk. Vanilla 4/4 for 4 doesnt make the cut in any of my cubes and proliferate wont do much in most cubes unless you jumped through some hoops before.
I really dont see anything more interesting or pushed then what we got in the last ~3 years. Actually its even worse than most sets.

It seems like they're pushing the envelope a little bit, but only in places where the envelope would need more than a push to be Cube viable (spells matter, green "removal", etc)
they are teasing us with a +1+1 counter theme at common for years now without actually printing anything meaningful. Its kinda cool to have more proliferate now, but the archetype remains pretty shallow nonetheless. I would expect the proliferate guys to bring a counter with them by themselves. the 4/4 dude would be much more interesting for an archetype roleplayer if it was a 2/2 that comes with a +1+1 counter and proliferates. Same outcome, but more synergy with other +1+1 matters effects. And actually more interesting than a dumb vanilla 4/4.
Bad spells matters support isnt actually fresh stuff either, its around since prowess was a thing and that keyword got the axe recently.
I'll admit, I'm surprised that Spark Reaper gets your attention, Humphrey. I think it is very, very, very meh, but in the way the rest of the set is: Actually interesting and not effects you normally get at common, just not really all that strong.
My stance on this set remains the same so far: Lots of solid archetype support that I've wanted for ages (mostly in Red), like the sac dude (still mid-high on that one) and the spells matter cards (none of which are auto-includes but may warrant consideration). The only thing that really seems like an all-purpose improvement is the tapper, who I will admit I slept on a bit but who seems very strong to me. The excitement of these cards isn't so much their power level, although I do think that it's a little high, but that they're cards that I actually want to play with. That hasn't necessarily been coming through as much recently, especially at common.

Apparently wotc is downplaying this as not a NWO level change in philosophy but it certainly seems like it will feel like a major shift during limited. Probably more interesting for hardcore drafters (but..that is just a matter of time) but much more daunting for less advanced players. Not really sure its worth it, especially from a Pauper perspective, since it seems certain that the supplemental sets will be the top pipeline for viable new/reprint cards into the format.
Spark Reaper is pretty strong. The body is on curve and CC3 to draw a card is good enough in the drawn out games. You pretty much always have outclassed or pacified creatures in those, so yeah Id be happy to trash those. Maybe not T1 (impossible to find any slots), but considerable nonetheless.
I'm curious if Guildpact Informant is worth considering. I know proliferate isn't always the highest on people's radar in Pauper as the +1/+1 archetype themes peasant gets aren't there but I felt this might be worth looking at due to the fairie typing for Spellstutter Sprite.
I also have just started looking into infect in U/G for my pauper cube (which is in a construction atm) in which this seems like a slamdunk
I'm very, very happy we get Pegasus in a foil version. I really like Heavenly Quiln's effect, so I need to decide how many copies I want, but having it available in foil is more meaningful for me than it should be.
I'm not sure about the Aven yet, but it definitely feels reasonable to me. I have enough sacrifice and swarm support, with more coming in this set, that it's probably worth running for me.
I don't actually think Callous Dismissal is quite good enough for us, because a 1/1 is not a 2/2, but it is surprisingly close to a 2 mana, instant speed Man-O'-War. Between spells and swarm support there might be something there.
I remain unconvinced on Spark Reaper being all that strong, but I do like sac outlets and might support it. I also think the Bear is just a little too narrow for our purposes, but these Black bears with upside always excite me and one day I might even run one.
Invading Manticore isn't the worst Red finisher I've ever seen. I don't think it's close to good enough, but I've at least vaguely considered worse before.

It's a sorcery. Also the difference between a 1/1 and a 2/2 is huge. It's the difference between Elvish Visionary, which barely anyone plays and Phyrexian Rager a solid staple.
Oh, you're right. It shows up as instant on the spoiler, but that's what you get for not checking the primary source. In that case I don't think it's good enough, because the 1/1 being worse than a 2/2 thing is the reason I was on the fence about it in the first place.
