Want to find a slot to test Chandra, Novice Pyromancer - I've been liking the uncommon walkers, getting one with a plus and two relevant minuses is exciting, we'll see how she plays
Ancestral Blade - Neither half is super impressive, but I feel like the flexibility might be worth it
Cryptic Caves - There's not a simple slot in for my cube since I'm not currently running any utility lands, aside from Treetop Village and Faerie Conclave, but it seems like a nice option
Cloudkin Seer - Very efficient card that also works nicely with flyers and blink/sac type decks. Not sure if I want to cut stuff like Tandem Lookout, Sea Gate Oracle, Eldrazi Skyspawner, or Latch Seeker, who somehow all seem to overlap with the seer's functionality, but do each specific part a bit better.
Tomebound Lich - I like this card a lot, I'm tempted to run it alongside Shadowmage Infiltrator, since although I think Finkel does his own job a fair bit better than the Lich, the Tomeboy ends up performing a bunch of other nice functions too - triggers on ETB to work with blink/sac effects and get value in the face of removal, loots to work with graveyard stuff, and the deathtouch and lifelink make it operate better on defense. I actually do have space for both, since I think I'm down to cut Far // Away, which would leave my Dimir section all creatures (these guys and Baleful Strix and Psychatog.
Howling Giant - I am currently running Trostani's Summoner which I like (in theory at least) as a reanimator/blink/sac fodder tool. Being monogreen is nice, though it does work less well with blink effects with so much power concentrated in the pack leader. Freeing up a guild slot is nice in theory, though I'm not quite burning for Selesnya slots in particular. It's also competing with other green 7 drops, a slot that I might already run too many of (Pelakka Wurm, Roar of the Wurm, and Plated Crusher)
Bloodthirsty Aerialist - I've been eyeing lifegain themes, and this card might be the shoehorn that deck needed to justify inclusion, since it really only takes one trigger for this card to work, and two for it to be great. And it's not an absolute embarrassment with zero
Vampire of the Dire Moon - A nice buddy for the aerialist. I've never run any Typhoid rats type cards, but I've also been looking for an excuse to diversify my black one drops beyond just generic 2/x's for 1. Carnophage is just kind of a bad card that's been itching for the axe. I think Diregraf Ghoul, Gnarled Scarhide, and Vampire Lacerator can hold down that role just fine.
Likely Benchwarmers until critical mass of support Woodland Champion - Kind of wish this were a white card, right now I'm not running a ton of mono green token makers
Scholar of the Ages - Not really a card that I'm looking to hardcast, but boy is it sick if you get it into play and can start spinning the wheels
Season of Growth - Right now there's roughly 10 or so cards in my cube that trigger this. If I decide to go heavier on auras/heroic type stuff this seems like a good option
Angel of Vitality - If the aerialist/dire moon package goes well, I might be looking to expand the lifegain archetype. She could be a part of that effort, but she might still not be quite good enough.
Barkhide Troll - If I ever get around to pushing +1/+1 counters more, though I'm already not running Strangleroot Geist because of the GG cost, so this one might miss either way
Winged Words - I do like this card as a complement to the flyers strat, but Chart a Course is already sort of fulfilling that purpose better. If I find I want a second version of this sort of effect, it could make the cut
Moldervine Reclamation - Right now I'm running Deathreap Ritual to some success. There are pros and cons for each of these, but I feel like 5 mana might be the dealbreaker, though I like the effect
Audacious Thief - I like the idea of this card, kind of wish it had menace or deathtouch or something. Seems likely to die before attacking, or during its first combat, potentially not even trading
Ironroot Warlord - Pretty high floor, but I think its ceiling is not all that high actually and mostly coincides with win-more situations
Corpse Knight - Nice card for tokens/aggro, but my Orzhov section is super competitive that I don't think this ranks in the top 6 (and I only run 4 per section)
Cryptic Caves - Great utility land for decks with low color commitment. It's also quite easy to find a spot for it in my colorless section, so I'll add this for sure.
Ancestral Blade - Great value for token, aggro and equipment decks. White isn't overflowing with good cards either, will find room for it.
Corpse Knight - Will test this instead of Cruel Celebrant. No life gain, but no need to sac the creatures and a better body.
Skyknight Vanguard - I think this is undervalued around here. From my perspective this is probably the best Boros guild creature we have yet. The main body has evasion and getting a free 1/1 attacker each turn for just two mana is powerful for a weenie/token deck. I wonder what upgrade people expect to make this not 'mediocre' as they say. A 2/1 or even 2/2 body? That certainly won't happen anytime soon at uncommon.
Honorable mentions:
Spectral Sailor - Another Flying Men with upside. I don't see a deck that really wants this though. There are enough better options in blue now as well.
Winged Words - A bit of build around required, but not much worse than Chart a Course I'd say. Don't need another spell like that in my 420 cube, would play in 540 or above.
Tomebound Lich - Shadowmage Infiltrator is on average a far better card, but this is a decent option for those who don't like fear as a mechanic and/or who want a more defensive card.
Blood for Bones - In most cases a far worse version of Victimize. It's not unplayable, but I would only play it in a really large cube.
Cloudskin Seer - Boring, but good value. Not sure this is better than Eldrazi Skyspawner and Skyspawner is more interesting, so I guess I won't switch.
Howling Giant - Very playable, but I like Pelakka Wurm, Sifter Wurm, Plated Crusher and Roar of the Wurm more and I only play three of those four.
Woodland Champion - You need to play a token maker after you play this and that will only ever happen (semi) reliably in Selesnya.
Empyrean Eagle - Best skies support card for Azorius yet imo, wish it was mono color as I don't have space in my guild section.
Chandra, Novice Pyromancer - For some people adding Planeswalkers to their cube is understandably very tempting, but I think they get overvalued a lot here simply because there were no uncommon walkers for a long time. This is just a bad burn spell with a marginal upside.
Brineborn Cutthroat - Decent card, but only in a deck that runs a lot of counterspells to protect and grow it. A bit too narrow for my taste.
Audacious Thief - Imo this is a trap, most of the time it will be a Phyrexian Rager that draws the card on death instead of etb.
Ironroot Warlord - Great card to support Selesnya midrange tokens, but currently I don't really need a card like that.
Flame Sweep - Decent red mass removal, but will rarely be more than a Fiery Cannonade.
Portal of Sanctuary - Crystal Shard getting nerfed a bit too much. If you could use it at instant speed I'd play it.
Alright.. it's about time that I chime in. Been relatively quiet the past few months. I'm still playing, but it gets hard to find the time lately.
Here are the cards I'm considering/slamming into the cube. They aren't final additions, just thoughts.
Cloudkin Seer - Just a nice value 3 drop flier that supports the flying archetype and can also be a versatile card in other decks. Spectral Sailor - Is having Azure Mage on a 1/1 flying flash make it more cubeable?... probably.
Vampire of the Dire Moon - Trades up, gains life, wears equipment well.. all for 1 mana... I imagine it's useful in quite a few archetypes. It diversifies my 1 drop section a bit. Plus, it gives me this affect in my 1,2, and 3 drop section with Gifted Aetherborn and Vampire Nighthawk.
Chandra, Novice Pyromancer - I'll say it now... I am very reluctant to put in planeswalkers with + abilities. It's a card type that is hard to interact with in Peasant, and being able to sit back, plus, and protect this planeswalker is a scary thought. I'm not saying this will be busted, but it'll be on a short leash if it's consistently being too hard to interact with. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but short leash. Flame Sweep - I'm in the market for another red sweeper currently, and the potential upside on this one is pretty sweet. Especially if you are playing it with white or blue, for spirit tokens and just a mass of flying blue creatures. Instant speed obviously. Mask of Immolation - Mortarpod in red. Mortarpod has been a great card for me in my time cubing, and giving red another one is surely appreciated. It's a good use of your mana late game and compliments the token theme quite well. I may like this more than others.
Season of Growth - I can't imagine triggering the second ability that consistently, but manipulating my draws in the midrange/token decks seems fun. Not sure how consistently good this card will be, but it seems interesting enough to try. Just realized as I was typing this is that it's very good with my fight effects. I'm warming up to this card now.
Corpse Knight - This card is awesome. Supports the token theme big time. Empyrean Eagle - I'm starting to support the U/W fliers archetype harder so this guy is a slam. Skyknight Vanguard - Support boros aggro/tokens. Slam. Tomebound Lich - This card is better than Shadowmage Infiltrator. I'll say it. Gets the effect immediately, and is better on both sides of combat. It is a loot instead of just a straight draw, but an acceptable trade for more relevant keywords.
Cryptic Caves - Cool effect that we were missing. By the time we want this effect, we'll most likely have 5 or more lands in play.

If I had to guess, I'd say you were overthinking it. She has a plus, sure, but what does it do? You only have 12 cards that are either Elementals or that make Elementals, and the only one that really gets scary here is Young Pyromancer. As for being hard to interact with, creatures can attack here and burn spells can target her. Repeatable damage is powerful, but unless you're protecting her and proliferating her at the same time, she'll probably only do it a couple times. I don't know - I tend to think planeswalkers are pretty fragile, but that comes from trying to keep them alive in my Superfriends Commander deck
That's what I think I'm doing, especially since Peasant games usually tend to be more creature centric, therefore making Planeswalkers much harder to protect. I think she'll be fine, but still scary for me. It's a new effect at Peasant... haha!
Peasant is a creatures' format so PW can be attacked with them. Some new creatures now deal damage to PW when they ETB, like Viashino Pyromancer and Orcish Hellraiser. Others have flying or some kind of evasion to deal them damage.
There are many other useful cards against them right now, Oblivion Ring and all those variants: Banishing Light, Cast Out, Conclave Tribunal, Faith's Fetters... Even the new Prison Realm.
We have all the counterspells to stop them. Also bounce and discard effects.
And all the burn spells.
Beast Within and Generous Gift. Also The Eldest Reborn.
I'm not worried for three or four decent new cards in this format. I'm worried if I see in front of me a Guardian of the Guildpact with a Bonesplitter or a Loxodon Warhammer.
I'm not worried for three or four decent new cards in this format. I'm worried if I see in front of me a Guardian of the Guildpact with a Bonesplitter or a Loxodon Warhammer.
I suspect his concern isn't power level, but the typical planeswalker play patterns. At least that's the case for me, and the reason I won't run any of these new walkers anytime soon. I just dislike the kind of play pattern they encourage.
Expecting to be good: Vampire of the Dire Moon - Very impactful 1 drop. Trades up with minor upside. Empyrean Eagle - Being able to go 3 + 2 or 3 + 3 on turn 5 or 6 is worth losing flash. Ironroot Warlord - Big body and doesn't die in big combat steps as a casualty.
Testing: Tomebound Lich - A bunch of nice things, but I'm not sure if it amounts to enough. Skyknight Vanguard - This type of token maker has a lot of potential, but a 1/2 flyer is really poor if the ability isn't huge. Season of Growth - We normally don't get passive value enchantments this cheap. Not sure how much repeated scrys really matter in most decks though.

You can kill PWs with +s, but you're still just behind if you use a card to do it. Then if you use creatures you can easily lose them in combat if you have to make a bad attack, but you're almost forced to kill them. They're also just psudeo gain life, which is not a very fun effect. If you can just kill a PW in combat easily it doesn't feel good for the person who played them. PWs with +s just don't support good gameplay imo, considering the reason I like peasant is the creature interaction, not some mildly unfun subgame.
I thought about it and I think I'll remove dredge from my cube, I find annoying mechanics should just be replaced with non-mechanic less reanimator more re-re-reanimate. I think I might want a stitches supplier or something to help with self mill
Silverback shaman seems good as well but I think the only good cut is Nemesis of mortals but I want to test that to see how strong that is with less dredge.
It's also still substantially worse than a Rager after one attack if you're attacking into a 3/3+ blocker or you just want your 3-drop to play defense against a Gore-House Chainwalker type creature
I wish all archetypes could be equally hated. Or loved, but the former better reflects the mindset of the vocal portion of the player base. My 540ish Peasant Cube on Cubetutor
That's good to know, thanks! I have used misprints in the past (Alpha Orcish Artillery) and I will do it again. 2/3 isn't overpowered, just makes the Knight a bit better. Hope it won't be too hard to find such a misprint.
Anyone got thoughts on Wildfire Elemental out of the red M20 planeswalker deck? I want to replace Qal Sisma Behemoth (which is too dumb and vanilla now), but not sure what to toss in...
Fiery Cannonade -> Flame Sweep - Basically a strict upgrade
Thunderclap Wyvern -> Empyrean Eagle - While the flash is nice, 3 is a much nicer spot than 4 for this archetype in particular
Boros Challenger -> Skyknight Vanguard - Been struggling with my Boros section, this card seems good alongside anthems/burn spells
Want to find a slot to test
Chandra, Novice Pyromancer - I've been liking the uncommon walkers, getting one with a plus and two relevant minuses is exciting, we'll see how she plays
Ancestral Blade - Neither half is super impressive, but I feel like the flexibility might be worth it
Cryptic Caves - There's not a simple slot in for my cube since I'm not currently running any utility lands, aside from Treetop Village and Faerie Conclave, but it seems like a nice option
Spectral Sailor - I'm still trying to make Favorable winds and Curious Obsession happen, so this is a tempting option. The Flying Men suite has become surprisingly competitive recently, what with Pteramander, Faerie Seer, Siren Stormtamer, and Cloudfin Raptor, and I'm not totally sure this guy is better than those, or if I have room for five(!) of them
Cloudkin Seer - Very efficient card that also works nicely with flyers and blink/sac type decks. Not sure if I want to cut stuff like Tandem Lookout, Sea Gate Oracle, Eldrazi Skyspawner, or Latch Seeker, who somehow all seem to overlap with the seer's functionality, but do each specific part a bit better.

Blood for Bones - This card interests me - I think it's probably worse than Victimize and Diabolic Servitude, but it might be time for me to admit that Whisper, Blood Liturgist isn't gonna happen, I should stop trying to make Whisper, Blood Liturigst happen.
Bloodthirsty Aerialist - I've been eyeing lifegain themes, and this card might be the shoehorn that deck needed to justify inclusion, since it really only takes one trigger for this card to work, and two for it to be great. And it's not an absolute embarrassment with zero

Season of Growth - Right now there's roughly 10 or so cards in my cube that trigger this. If I decide to go heavier on auras/heroic type stuff this seems like a good option
Gnarlback Rhino - Another tool for the above archetype
Brineborn Cutthroat - Neat card, I am sort of trying to make simic flash a thing as an attempt to justify Wilderness Reclamation and this is another cog for that
Angel of Vitality - If the aerialist/dire moon package goes well, I might be looking to expand the lifegain archetype. She could be a part of that effort, but she might still not be quite good enough.
Twinblade Paladin - Same as above
Barkhide Troll - If I ever get around to pushing +1/+1 counters more, though I'm already not running Strangleroot Geist because of the GG cost, so this one might miss either way
Lightning Stormkin - A bit too boring for a gold card, feel like I'd prefer Adeliz, the Cinder Wind or Stormchaser Mage as more interesting versions, though the stormkin is possibly better just on average power level

Omenspeaker - azure mage
Spectral Sailor - Rise from the tides
I wanted to replace rise with Mystic Retrieval but both are super slow while all decks are kind of fast in my cube.
Blood for bones - whisper, blood liturgist
Bloodthirsty Aerialist - warteye witch
Gorging Vulture - Stinkweed Imp
unearth - darkblast
Moan of the unhallowed - unburial rites
