i love to see cycling back. its just so awesome for us.
on the cards
2/4 vigilance is nice, also 3/6 hexproof is a serious wall. finally something that stops 5/x
cloudpiercer seems playable as well. its a virtual 5/4 haste, reach for 4
this one is interesting. unblockable attacks is even better than granting flying and with the amount of scroll thief variants, it might become a great ability in the future.
I was just attempting to post all new cards, but then decided im too lazy, because mtgs lacks like 10 cards.
but yeah, the floor for mutate seems pretty high so far.
If you have some tokens around.
also remember, they melt into one. so if you have undying on one it comes back big.
I really like Goriak because it just adds to ways the common green beat stick can be explored. I really love the 3cmc green creature - I just like seeing how much design space fits into those parameters, and how many power/toughness variations there can be. As far as I can tell this is strictly better than colossodon yearling and those two are the only 3cmc green creatures at common with those p/t stats.
I agree its a good card, and i like the sac when you want it. But im wondering how often it'd be better compared to say Vulturous Aven. That card is one creature for 2 cards and a flyer. But being able to continuously do it is nice.
Thieving otter is a functional reprint, but it's so cute.
Actually has some marginal upside over previous ones since it's not just combat damage. The otter and similar are also are nice with the newDreamtail Heron
The mutate cards seem like they could be solid. Seem like solid flexibility as either aura-like effects or creatures.
Some good targets for mutate would be stuff like
Smaller creature with relevant abilities (evasive flying creatures or hexproof)
I could see Bonder's Ornament being decent in slower cubes, the card draw seems decently cheap enough for being tacked on to a mana rock. Bushmeat Poacher seems pretty solid as well, cheap sac cost for a card and decent amount of life.
Thwart the Enemy as our cheapest one-sided fog for green is kind of interesting I guess
I dont think im sold on all the mutate yet. They're sort of like split cards. Example of the Heron, its a 5cmc 3/4 flier, or a 4cmc aura that gives flying [+1/+1 to +2/+2], and draws a card. Considering i run Cartouche of Knowledge, which is 2cmc, +1/+1, flying & draw a card, the Heron's aura mode seems overpriced.
Yes flexibility and getting around instant speed removal of target creature is nice, but is it worth the cost.

There are ~60 more commons coming and only a small handful revealed so far have mutate. So I'm taking a wait-and-see approach but in principle I also have my doubts. Most of them are going to amount to auras wtih small p/t boots and an etb. In terms of the flexibility, its not like bestow made a drastic impact.
sure theyre work like auras, but i kinda more see them as creatures for the mutate cost that ask you to "sac" an outclassed onedrop. Its perfect for my cube.

So, best case, if you put this on a 1/1 it is +3/+3, menace, and force a discard for B3.

Yeah it might be too slow for fast cubes (like mine) i like it for my t2 though. Afterall its a better and common Jayemdae Tome
