I was wondering recently if Flash decks were still viable even post-restriction, and I came up with the following list which I've been testing on Cockatrice/MWS for the past few days.
(for those unaware, the combo is to cast Flash with Protean Hulk in hand. It dies, and fetches Body Double (which copies it) and Carrion Feeder. sacrifice Body Double, getting Reveillark and Mogg Fanatic. Now you sacrifice Fanatic for damage and Reveillark to Carrion Feeder, returning Fanatic and Body Double (as Reveillark). Now you can continually recur Mogg Fanatic and burn the opponent to death.)
It's been a lot more successful than I was anticipating, and I think the deck has enough potential that it's worth posting it to a public forum. The wealth of tutors and card selection make finding Flash pretty easy, and the backup plan of Tinker is also very handy. Snapcaster Mage is also a very useful addition to the deck, since he solves the problem of not being able to win if Reveillark or Body Double in hand.
There are a couple of things I'd specifically like feedback on. The first is obviously the sideboard, which I haven't really thought about at all. (I do know that I'd like Viscera Seer, since Phyrexian Revoker and Pithing Needle are pretty annoying.) It's also possible that there are more streamlined versions of the combo, which I'm interested in hearing. and finally, any general comments/suggestions would be groovy
My problem with this deck is that it has too few ways to find Flash, you are relying on a restricted card to win you the game - certainly it's valid as Tinker Blightsteel is a winning move in vintage in many games - but it seems that it places too much reliance on you finding a single card in your deck.
Have you considered using something like Cunning Wish to get a Sideboarded Flash? Here is a listing that I was playing around with a few years ago, dug it out of an old thread here, it could certainly be improved on with Snapcaster, Noxious or other new tech. Please note that it was built to be slightly budget, use it only as a springboard for ideas.
Looks pretty solid to me. What's your reasoning behind Duress over something like drain, MM or S Pierce, etc? IMHO, the presence of Mental Misstep and Snapcaster Mage in the meta kinda makes discard against control decks weak. Staxx is large and in charge ATM as well, and duress doesn't provide enough value/tempo gain in most cases to be effective(enough). You have no MD bounce spells either. Considering its a pure U/B build (I see a Volcanic Island main board, but no red spells and no SB) you should have an assortment of Chain of Vapor, Hurkyl's Recall, Rebuild, Echoing Truth, Steel Sabotage etc. to deal with various creatures, artifacts and enchantments that pose a threat to you. Otherwise you are putting too much pressure on your ability to outdraw your opponent and stay ahead with just counter and discard until you combo out. Decks playing Bob, Gush and or more Jace's may walk all over you card advantage wise.
