I've been playing Legacy for a while and I'm somewhat curious why Counterbalance never shows up in Vintage lists. Looking at decklists, curves on average certainly seem low enough to abuse. Likely the numbers are horrible, but I'm just sort of curious why things like this never really pop up.
i've often wondered this myself. Enchantments are not common in vintage, so most opponents would not be able to destroy it. I think the reason something like this never really shows up is that it's essentially a two card combo that doesn't win the game. countertop decks tend to play sowly, but in this format even the slowest decks can win pretty quickly. I think this deck needs blightsteel as another tinker target, for starters.
i wonder if you could run counterbalance in a different shell. maybe some kind of deck built to abuse temporal mastery in conjunction with the top? 2-of counterbalance as a lock piece that fits with the rest of the deck. I don't know. i've tried to abuse temporal mastery in vintage and it was very hit or miss. I think the whole countertop thing takes up too much space in the deck for what it does relative to the vintage format.
