In my spare time, I like working on silly combo decks and seeing how competitive I can make them. My latest effort was a Helm of Awakening based combo deck that uses Prophetic Prism, Tsabo's Web, and the like to draw your whole deck, while generating silly amounts of mana with Retract and Hurkyl's Recall coupled with moxes and the like.
I'm pretty much done with that deck now, and am looking for some other silly combo to tackle. I've got a bunch of ideas...but am having trouble choosing, and would really appreciate some input on which of these concepts is likely to be the most viable.
So, what do you guys think...which of the following concepts would make for the best deck?
================== Concept 1:Maralen of the Mornsong
This is really a 1-card combo. The idea is to get Maralen into play, and then have her survive until you can use her somehow. (Ideas include Leyline of Anticipation, Fatique, Time Walk)
Once Maralen is down, you search up time walk / warp effects (or something to recur them) every turn, and your opponent never gets to go again. Or you can tutor up a singleton Mindlock Orb to lock them down, and then a singleton Lethal Vapors and kill them by skipping your next 80 turns. Or something.
==================
================== Concept 2:Multani's Presece
I have no idea if there's any way to actually make this work, but Multani's Presence + Blood Funnel is interesting. Is there a way to draw your deck by casting free spells that just get countered over and over, and then do something horrible?
==================
================== Concept 3: Geth's Grimoire
This combo focuses around Geth's Grimoire, coupled with "draw and discard" effects like Burning Inquiry and Wheel of Fortune. The idea is to cycle through your deck, generate mana, and eventually chuck an uncounterable Banefire or something at them.
==================
================== Concept 4: Plagiarize
Similar to the Geth's Grimoire combo, but utilizing Plagiarize + Winds of Change and Timetwister instead. Bonus points for killing with Psychogenic Probe, if you can manage to consistently start looping through your deck.
==================
================== Concept 5:Vedalken Archmage
Similar to the Helm of Awakening combo above, this combo uses Vedalken Archmage and Retract / Hurkyl's Recall on moxes to generate silly amounts of mana and a huge storm count while drawing your deck.
==================
Multani's Presece

Dreamhalls+Yawgmoth's Bargain+Gerrard's Wisdom once you're capable of drawing your entire deck, put it all back with timetwister and do it all over again. with the above, you are able to (unless you can't find anything within your lifetotal that will get you more cards or a gerrard's wisdom) get infinite life, infinite cards, and either:
Leyline of the Void and Helm of Obedience. Built in dredge hatin' deck that simply mulligans until it hits a Leyline in opening hand, then tutors up Helm, activating for 1 FTW. A sample decklist would likely include Power, naturally, FoW to make sure the helm hits, a bit of disruption in the form of Thoughtseize, 4x Serum Powder to help with the mulliganing. I'm seriously wondering why this deck hasn't been built yet.

If you're using Helm of Awakening I think its easier to combo out with 2 SDTs, then Tendrils for the win
Concept #5 You could use Tidespout Tyrant to Replay Moxen over and over regenerating Storm (most kills use Brainfreeze at this point to stay in color) but Vedalken Archmage would let you draw your whole deck. Course the Archmage just seems like a winmore card.

This is a great suggestion...here's a first effort.
- Summoner's Pact fetches Elvish Spirit Guide for mana, so there's more sources than there might appear at first glance
- Enlightened Tutor can fetch either combo piece
- You can board in Slaughter Pact vs. Oath
- This list is still very preliminary, and can probably be improved a lot.

If God spoke to you, and commanded you to kill your own children, would you do it?
If your answer is "No," then your morality does not come from God's commandments.
If your answer is "Yes," then please, please reconsider.
i was recently testing a similar list in MWS and the biggest problem (this was all done without an opponent and the subsequent disruption they'll bring) this deck has is that practically every spell needs to have CMC 0, but you have no reliable way to tutor up CMC 0's while keeping CMC 0 on a non-land (too bad Tolaria West can't be countered). Because of this, you will almost always fizzle unless you get 2 multani's down or find a way to reliably cast any dig/tutor you decide to run.
the other unfortunate consequence is that you need both multani's and chalice of the void to do anything noteworthy, and unlike other 2 card combos, our entire deck has to be designed with both cards in mind meaning we get no disruption and any dig/tutor will slow down our assembled combo whereas without them we have a very hard time assembling the combo.
i messed around testing higher land builds, serum powder+street wraith, etc, and none of it really clicked. the one time i was able to go off by turn 3 i fizzled because there was only 1 mutlani's down and i drew into a grapeshot, and 2 manamorphose with no way to cast morphose.
i think any deck running this pretty much needs Serum Powder because you really can't function without both of the combo cards in play (preferably 2+ multani's).
it might have more ways to combo off without stalling if you made most of those pacts 0 cost creatures and added glimpse of nature skullclamp. it's still easy to disrupt but should be less likely to stall out when goldfishing as it gives you multiple avenues to chain draws also provides you with basically 12 spells your opponant HAS to counter if they want to not lose in humiliating fashion. also allows you to cut enlightened tutor which is too slow, could even throw a single goblin charbelcher in there for an alternate win. i'd also replace the chrome moxes with mox opals when they become available as they won't be card disadvantage if you have to use them for a mana source.
Leyline of the Void and Helm of Obedience. Built in dredge hatin' deck that simply mulligans until it hits a Leyline in opening hand, then tutors up Helm, activating for 1 FTW. I'm seriously wondering why this deck hasn't been built yet.
Dark Times uses this, it's included in the Monte deck, and some TPS lists sideboard into it also. Probably most people don't like it because it's vulnerable to the same things as Key/Vault, it's harder to tutor for enchantments than artifacts, costs double black unless Leyline is in your opener, and is more expensive mana-wise even if you start with the Leyline in play.

it's plus is the card it combos with is the one of the best graveyard hosers. so "Dark Times" and "2 Card Monte" have legitimate game ones against Dredge where most of the rest of the format loses game one a large portion of the time and wins with their board. decks that are boarding in leylines might as well board in a single card that can win them the game comboing with a piece of hate.
I saw that, i was so tempted to build it and see what i could do with it. just the fact that he has Gate to Phyrexia in his board made me a fan. I think the Designer is a genius.
The idea of the deck is to play a flurry of 0 CMC creatures and artifact mana to create a high storm count and win via Brain Freeze or Tendrils.
I know there are a few problems with this as a vintage deck namely no way to protect the combo. I was considering -4 wraith +4 Force of Will. In testing there are times when a turn one win is very possible. Sometimes going through the engine you will run into a wall but the Probes and Wraiths can help break through it. A few times I have had to use Stroke on myself to keep things going.

Pact of Negation would certainly be the better choice. Even Daze with the appropriate Land Grant support may be workable (and would give you the Land Grant->Dryad Arbor line of play for a bit of flexibility).
Either way, you're looking at rolling over any time Clamp or Glimpse fail you, as that loss of tempo will set you far behind every other combo deck that gets disrupted. You could try Ad Nauseam as a backup plan, if only to help keep things running smoothly. Turn 1 Dark Ritual, Culling the Weak into Ad Nauseam seems like it could do some very good things for you.
I don't know if this is an original idea or not (it probably isn't) but I have an idea concerning the Kobolds that cost 0 mana and Glimpse of Nature.
Basically, it's a combo deck with storm in vintage. The goal is to cast Glimpse, then cast creatures, effectively drawing pretty much your whole deck, then Brain Freeze or Grapeshot your opponent to death.
These are your 8 win-cons. Why I chose these two instead of other storm spells is because they are 2 mana. You will probably not have many chances to get 4 mana as efficiently as 2, so Tendrils of Agony and Empty the Warrens are out. Mind's Desire is also out of the question, since it costs a whopping 6 mana.
The Glimpses are obvious, and the clamps make way for a huge advantage when you draw anything that isn't a creature, and it's 4-of legal in Vintage, so there's that too. The probes are quite useful because of the hand reveal from a player, and it replaces itself, and it's free, and it adds to storm.
24 creatures, 20 of which are free. The Kobolds, Memnites, and Ornithopters all lend to storm, and is fodder to Skullclamp, except for Ornithopter, but two of them can take it down, and you draw four cards! The Steelshapers are there because the clamp is free to equip, so why not?
The manabase is one that may need fine-tuning, but this is what I have so far. I chose the three duals you see here because you want to always have access to green mana so you can Glimpse without fright. The artifacts are also pretty basic.
I do not have a sideboard plan for this deck yet, so if you have any ideas, please let me know.
If there are any questions, comments, complaints, or issues you may have with this deck, do not hesitate to let me know about that as well.
its alot of fun to play and there are alot of other kill conditions for the deck as well.

It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.
the red mage lives by the variance and dies by the variance. May the variance be with you, always.
And here is are 2 discussion from Salvation on No Power Kobolds and Nauseous Kobolds, using Ad Nauseum and Tendrils rather then Brain Freeze/Grapehsot. You might consider dropping your kill conditions down to less then 8, as you should be able to find one relatively easily.
I've tried something like this before. Here was the last deck list I put together. (Vintage legal, not legacy legal). It can be disrupted pretty easily if they counter your draw engine. In my build the hardest part was getting up to the three mana required to cast an altar. After that hits the board though you're pretty much golden. It takes some practice to play. The altar lets you keep going and possibly even make enough mana to burn someone with a kaervek's torch or banefire or w/e if you didn't want to go the storm route. Storm is definitely the strongest though. Also note that the only mox I've ever owned was ruby, but even without power this thing had potential to go off turn one, and if it didn't go off by turn 3-4 you were probably going to lose. You could also run dual lands and land grants instead of city of brass, but mine was very budget.
I'm pretty much done with that deck now, and am looking for some other silly combo to tackle. I've got a bunch of ideas...but am having trouble choosing, and would really appreciate some input on which of these concepts is likely to be the most viable.
