Someone who provided the Rumor Mill with information in past sets, and who wants to remain anonymous, dropped me this interesting card. According to him, it's going to be "hot" but I guess I just don't see it. Combo with Tallowisp or something?
Mark of Sakiko - Enchant Creature (U) Enchanted creature has “Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, add that much to your mana pool. This mana doesn’t cause mana burn. Until end of turn, this mana doesn’t empty from your mana pool as phases end.”
Who's Sakiko?
Anyway, it has some interesting aspects, like how it doesn't cause mana burn, and how your mana pool doesn't empty until the end of turn. So there's no actual drawback to the card, other than the inherant card disadvantage of local enchantments.
I like the modifications to the mana. It keeps the card playable and opens up some design space. The question is, what to put it on? You can put it on a creature second turn, but then you're really only getting G per turn. It's kind of splashy, with Timmy (about double your mana) and Johnny (Draco/Stratadon/Mycosynth Golem) potential, but it generally isn't worth the card (seeing as how it's dependent on other creatures).
At the very least, I like this because its doing something new. Good to see that they can still come up with creative ways of doing old things like giving mana production to green. And who knows.. it could be a fairly strong way to add some mana in limited to get you up to Patron or Myojin levels.
I was thinking of using it with Crypt Rats, but that doesn't deal combat damage. Then I thought about Wicked Akuba, but that requires B instead of G for the activation of the ability. Hmm...what green creature can use that mana?
So it is an enchant creature version of Upwelling. If Upwelling didn't light the world on fire, I don't see how this would be any better.
This version doesnt help your opponent, though. If you throw it on one of your
opponents creatures,it will add the mana to your mana pool to.Its actually kinda interesting. :badger: :spirit5:
Maybe you'll get Archenemy cards in your Duel Decks From The Vault: Deck Builder's Toolkit All-Foil Duels of the Planeswalkers Downloadable Content Expansion (Tactics Edition).
on turn 4 you can make 7 mana. 1) chuck a creaturer with toughness of 2 2) enchant 4) Use Yamabushi flame then Crushing Pain (7 mana) then cast Orochi Patron. YAY!

That card can get really sick, REALLY fast. Imagine in B/G block: Turn 2 Nezumi Cutthroat, turn 3 enchant it with THIS beast, and you have a personal Eladamri's Vinyard. Not to mention that this turns pump spells like Kodama's Reach or Blazing Shoal (!) into no-drawbacks mana generation. This will probably be used in R/G Spiritcraft/Arcane, B/G Control, and probably monogreen Snakes.
What is it with massive mana in this set? First we get the Patron of the Orochi, now this. I guess Body of Jukai won't be so tough to cast, after all.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
if sosuke got his summons (note: it's also an uncommon).. why sachi won't get her mark..

It's interesting, to say the least. I can't think of a current T2 or block deck that this fits in right now, but I know a few of my casual decks are doing the happy dance right about now.
Also, as someone mentioned previously, Sakiko sounds like an Orochi-bito legend...
This seems like a very interesting card. It would make me really happy if this did make a splash like the source claims. I really want a good creature enchant back like elephant guide, and if this became the enchantment that replaces it, that would be fine with me. ((FLaCCiD goes of to wonder what mysterious card this might combo with, and whether it will be in Bok or not))

Formerly corn hulio.
Hopefully i will have a swelling of pride sometime soon..........
If you dont get that, look at my username, and if you still dont get it, than your to young to have an account on here without your parents permission, YOU ARE A BAD LITTLE CHILD!!!!

That is a very good point. Completely missed that the first pass through. You could always combo with Orochi Leafcaller to funnel the into other colored mana.
Well, it's mana, and mana is always good. I don't see how the non-mana burn part can be abused, but stuff like Giant Growth becomes a green Dark Ritual. I'd pick it in Draft.
Well that pwns my combo. Hmm i see to much abuse. It's gonna get skullclamped.
Edit: It pwns Ravanger

Hehe Thats awesome.
5 card combo for a T2 kill!
That's the best one yet!
4x Orochi Leafcaller
4x Mark Of Sakiki
4x Blazing Shoal
4x Myojin of Infinite Rage
4x Fireball
4x Blaze
4x Serum Powder
32x Forest!
Woot!
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Turn 2 win! Who cares what the odds are? I mean, if I can get mana flooded 2 games straight in an Extended tournament while playing a 17 land deck, anything is possible!!
Seriously, it's a fun little card. It may not be spectacular, but people WILL play it anyway. Just because.
22 damage, turn 1.
Of course, the Blue Shoal, or the 1 drop white spirit would just wreck this.
Not to mention that the probablity that you'd actually hit this is silly low.
:yikes: ... and I thought here that my suggestion of Blazing Shoal was all in innocent fun. My Johhnie senses are going crazy, ESPECIALLY since that deck can actually USE Serum Powder. Heh, who knew?
in any case, the deck can probably lose 10 forests to add 4 mountains, 4 more cheap creatures, an Okina, and a Shinka.

Its not the best card in the world, but its really interesting.. It might see some play, but it depends.. It will have to be tester properly..

Yeah, 4 cards for a turn two kill is much better than 6 for a turn 1... and would actually be tons more consistant.
1) Mountain
2) Spark Elemental
3) Blazing Shoal pitching Myojin
4) Blazing Shoal pitching Red Bringer/Furnace Dragon
