This is from a reliable source who has provided several other cards for this set and others.
Torrent of Stone -
Instant - Arcane (C)
Torrent of Stone deals 4 damage to target creature.
Splice onto Arcane - Sacrifice two mountains. (As you play an Arcane spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this card’s effects to that spell.)
For all those of you who complained that Flames of the Blood Hand should have targetted creatures instead of players "because it's creatures you really want to burn", here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is!
Keep in mind that you have to be casting another Arcane spell in order to use the Splice ability. That means you either pay the mana cost and the card goes to the graveyard, or you pay the non-mana cost and Splice it to something else, in which case it stays in your hand. Since you're sacrificing your lands to do this, chances are it won't be something you'll be able to do a lot of times. In my opinion, that makes this pretty sub-par.
The black one is WAY better.
Horobi's Whisper -
Instant - Arcane (C)
If you control a Swamp, destroy target nonblack creature.
Splice onto Arcane - Remove four cards in your graveyard from the game. (As you play an Arcane spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this card’s effects to that spell.)
Pretty darn tasty for a common! It doesn't prevent regeneration, ala Dark Banishing, but they haven't really been printing a lot with regeneration lately anyhow.
If you have two of these in hand, you can pay 1BB for the first, Splice the other by RFGing 4 cards, and kill two creatures at the same time. Niiiiice.
I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.
Attack step ok, oh wait i would like to cryptic command. im sorry its too late to do that.
YAY!!! MBC in CBC 4 ME!!!! I've been hoping to see some more good black cards and I think this will help. I'd rather have these in most cases rather than th 2CC black Legend killer. Now we just need some black card drawing and we're set!!
Torrent of Stone, first off, costs 1 too many. for three or even two it would be playable. The splice might be interesting in limited but still compare this to an old favorite, Fireblast. This is tons worse, granted costs 1R less if you hard cast it, but fireblast was better since it could finish off opponents for nothing, this requires another spell for it to be "free". A bad bad card.
Horobi's Whisper is better but still not great. 1BB isn't splashable, definately not if you are requiring a swamp. (many decks would rather play this through a glimmervoid or City) Altho its free splice cost isn't too bad, but harsh and not playable before you could ever play its mana cost. It is arcane which is nice so you could splice one onto the other. Will be good a standard kill maybe, esp in MBC but outside of that, I don't think it'll see much play.
These cards are very nice!!!!!!!!
Finally some playable commons.
This set rocks.
Ps. in the late game the first card is killer in a splice deck "i will splice this" "ok" "again and again and again and again you die!!!!!!!"
Edit sorry i sould read cards better. But still very good reusable burn.

It's funny because innocent people that were trying to pay the bills for their families were brutally murdered.
holy cow! Horobi's Whisper is going to rock in my Mesmeric Orb deck!!! i would expect uncommon at the very least for that! i like the flavor of it too... Horobi is Death's Wail, well check out his whisper!
Torrent of Stone- While this card doesn't have much use outside of limited and possibly block play, I wouldn't exactly call it a bad card overall, just mediocre. But yeah, it's definitely not going to see play in the current T2 meta.
Horobi's Whisper- Now this is cool. A recurring removal spell with a fairly resonable splice cost is quite good and should see major play in block & limited. It may also see play in MBC as well, but I really don't see it's splice ability being used much there though, what with the lack of arcane spells and all. Still, I have to admit, this is a very nice card.
Horobi's whisper is very nice, compared to Snuff Out(Masques I believe) this really has a lot going for it... I was getting a little worried we would see any great black removal in betrayers for block, but Rancored and sources have answered our prayers! Choice!
Both of these cards seems more suited to late game control (In most cases when your ahead and need to stay that way) I'm sure we'll see a bit of both show up in MRC and MBC builds for CBC lol! (I'll be playing MBC/x for sure this Block season, Toshi's arsenal is getting stronger by the day)
MBC doesn't run all these spells but it could add a few of these so they could run the Horobi's Whisper and be able to use its arcane. Removing 4 cards from your graveyard isn't really going to be to hard for MBC. It's probably the best removal spell so far that I've seen for in BoK.
For all those of you who complained that Flames of the Blood Hand should have targetted creatures instead of players "because it's creatures you really want to burn", here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is!
Oh just stop it. :tongue2:
The issue with Flames of the Blood Hand is not that it would be a better Constructed card if it *just* targeted creatures, but that it would be better if it did less damage and could target either creatures or players.
Flexible burn is almost always better than narrow burn ... the fact that Electrostatic Bolt gets played is more a testament to the warped T2 environment than to Bolt being better because it targets creatures.
In Extended, which is not hideously warped toward artifact creatures, I can't think of a single commonly played burn spell that can *only* target one or the other. Earth Rift saw some play in burn-heavy Sligh a while back, but it was so undercosted that it was worth it. Same with Fireblast, which rarely targeted creatures.
Flames of the Blood Hand is no Fireblast. For Constructed purposes, your burn needs to a) remove blockers AND b) go to the face.
So, this card is also *bleah* because it is narrow burn. :grin2:
EDIT: "Flame" Rift, not Earth Rift.

This is my Jackal Pup. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Jackal Pup is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Jackal Pup without me is useless. Without my Jackal Pup, I am useless. I must tap my Jackal Pup true. I must tap faster than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must beat him down before he beats me down. I will.
wow kittybread, you brought up an interesting point... splice Whisper onto Cranial Extraction and you have an extremely big headache for your rival to deal with. i keep forgetting Extraction is arcane!
Even if you don't use the splice on the red spell, 4-mana for 4 damage at instant speed is great. If you draw it late game with lots of extra land, then splice is just icing on the cake.
The black one, on the other hand, rocks. Top pick for any deck with black, definitely.
i like the bloody hand more.. but at least in a dangerous situation you've got a red spell to at least try and burn a creature
and the whisper is nice specially cause this isn't a graveyard focused set.. ok.. plenty of reanimators/reapers but.. you can remove other things..

"It is just that we should be grateful, not only to those with whose views we may agree, but also to those who have expressed more superficial views; for these also contributed something, by developing before us the powers of thought." ~Aristotle
flames of the blood hand was terrible, but this more than makes up for it.
torrent of stone is the best piece of burn in the set. If your spells are all arcane, its effectively a fireblast!
horobis whisper also kicks a a lot of ass, but doesnt seem quite as good as torrent of stone.
Hm...are there any cards worth keeping in your graveyard at all in standard or limited? It seems to me that the only time where having cards in your graveyard would be relevant is if you are running eternal witness, soulless revival, and/or hana kami.
I dont like horobi's whisper that much... black doesnt have the arcane spells I need for it to be usable... Im still waiting for decent blue/red splice stuff
Oh man, Iwas really hoping the alternate splice for red cards wasn't going to be sacrificing mountain. Otherwise the cards are quite nifty and could be very useful for block.
horobi's whisper is a bomb in limited if your drafting black..in kamigawa draft black was clearly the strongest colour unless completely overdrafted...this is defenitely awesome...

Torrent of Stone is nowhere *near* Fireblast. How often did you burn creatures with Fireblast? It happened, but it was never a good sign when it did.
It's obviously solid in Limited. It's removal. Constructed? Not so much.
