awww poor Anax. That said he'll be great for my power 4 deck.

Not familiar with Renata and Anax was very devoted to Iroas, not Purphoros. Heck, even his wife Cymede had to worship Keranos in secret. I’m surprised by the selections. Anyhow, Renata has amazing art. Chris Rahn at it again. I suppose each artist of the god drew the respective demigod? Can’t wait to see Callaphe’s non promo art then! Especially if it’s Zack Stella.
Man I was sadly way off on these characters. For sure expected petros and Theophilia. But those are deep cuts in lore. Then again so was Callaphe
What's Anax's power when he's in the graveyard? Can I rez him with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death if I want to, or only if my devotion to red is low enough?

You've got a rat in your walls, and cheese won't solve anything.
Holy crap, Purphoros just made Heliod seem like a nice, well-adjusted god. What the hell dude.
WotC continues the trend of giving equines indirect tribal support. It's a nice card, but I'm not sure if it's better than Setessan Champion as the Enchantment payoff of choice, and considering neither of them are Enchantments themselves, I'm not sure if you'd be able to run both and still keep that Enchantment critical mass to make it work. But hey, only Unicorns left to go, I guess?
Renata seems to be the worst demigod IMO, could be cute if you're playing Proliferate but still too much work for little payoff. Anax on the other hand is pretty good, hell even in Rakdos/Jund there's an argument to be made on the fact that he makes more sac fodder and triggers when dying himself.

Anax was devoted to Iroas in his youth but switched to Purphoros as he grew older and wanted to forge an empire.

Callephe is always brought up with Kiora since she pretend to be Callephe as well as Thassa, so her name is more commonly used in lore than the other two.
EDIT: From the flavor text I'm guessing Renata is based on Atlanta and her role with the calydonian boar hunt.

His power in the graveyard should be 0 since he isn't on the battlefield, making him a valid Alesha target.
No, it's a characteristic-defining ability that works in all zones, so it's power will always be equal to your devotion to Red even in the graveyard. Check the rulings for Lord of Extinction for example.
From the article we also learn there are 24 devotion cards, 5 *not* heroic cards all in RW to help the archetype for it in this set and no out right minotaur tribal.

Isn't this the same again for white. Tokens + life gain for an enchantment payoff. Not saying the card is bad but it is almost the same as every playable white card in the last sets. They could start to give us more payoffs for life gain, if that is the direction they go with white. Is there another payoff than Heliod in this set, while almost the half of the white cards get you life? There aren't many life gain payoff in general.
Saying that I think a may consider the Pegasus for my Sephara, Sky's Blade EDH deck.

I think looking at this as a life gain card is pretty inaccurate. Alela is pretty happy to see this kick Ajani’s chosen out.

You replacing an enchantment payoff for an enchantment payoff, because this one is better. Its add life gain and flying to the tokens and the body with in case of Alela is more relevant. So how is my comment inaccurate, because the tokens have flying? The thing is flying-"Tribal" is rather new and I didn't remember that even while mentioning Sephara by myself. I didn't say life gain card I said life gain as an enchantment payoff.
I don't understand the theme of this ongoing complaint about white cards. Do you also get annoyed when green gets large creatures or blue gets a set mechanic based draw spell? It makes lifelinky wind drakes with every enchant you play. Like it or not gaining life is an extremely on point and synergistic feature of white decks. Play with Ajani's welcome, Ajani's Pridemate, Heliod, Sun-Crowned, and a passel of oblivion rings and the deck slaps. The Deck is a Bop.

And this is exactly the complaint. In the process of building a critical mass of white's characteristic ability they have (at least in some people's minds) removed the variety from white and made it very linear, and honestly based on what I've heard about current tourney results they haven't given white the power it needs to be competitive despite this density building. Now, whether or not that's fair... I dunno but it's where some people are coming from.

I love the non-promo art for Callaphe. She looks so intelligent and distinguished. I love how she attempts to mimic Thassa’s aesthetics with her clothing. Amazing effect too

No, because Green and Blue have other tools to play with instead of large creatures and drawing cards. The issue isn't that gaining life and making tokens is boring, it's that it seems to be the only two things White is consistently doing nowadays.
White? Not only it gained very little, but it lost a lot over the years. White is supposed to be able to answer everything, except Armageddon effects fell out of favor and now White has very little to answer lands. White is supposed to be able to slow down the game, except taxing effects like Suppression Field were deemed too oppressive and unfun, now White gets much weaker variants like Tithe Taker. White was supposed to have a monopoly over powerful symmetrical effects like Balance or Wraths, except breaking the symmetry on these is too easy, so now they got neutered too and, oh, also, other colors now get to get slightly less efficientboard wipes too. Basically, White's color pie was kind of a mess, so once WotC moved away from these effects that promoted bad gameplay, what was left was a *****ty version of Green - and that's not just me saying, MaRo pretty much acknowledged as such. Lifegain, token production, empowering creatures, protection, removal and, well, that's kind of it.
Well it is a shame. Honestly Daxos being 2/* makes sense, but imo Tymaret should be */2 and Renata be 2/* ( or Anax be 2/*).
The Archon is a limited bomb, Anax could be really good with the heroic suport from WR. Renata idk how she will play, makes the green faties better, and can do the damage while the boar attacks, but it fells weird cause green has alot of big butts but not alot of good attackers soo far.
I'm really liking this set. Very impressed. Anax is great, I know he will find a home in my purphoros edh deck, getting extra mileage out of my token poopers.
But Renata i really like. She represents a recent trend in mtg that has fallen under the radar. It was only a few years ago that melira pod dominated modern. Renata is just the latest psuedo-melira when it comes to infinite persist, joining recent prints like rythm of the wild, grimgully the generous and path of discovery. Throw them in with bad mike and melira and melira pod comes to edh. I just reworked my prossh deck into this theme and renata is more than welcome to hang out with murderous redcap and pals.

Blue and Black always had the biggest slice of the color pie, that was a known issue for years. WotC solved most of this issue, bumping considering the amount of stuff Green and Red can do. Green used to suck, now it got card selection, card draw, ramp, Graveyard retrieval, life gain, toolboxing, token production, empowering creatures, protection, hell even transmutation and Planeswalker removal. Red also used to be burn-aggro-dragons galore, now it has impulsive draw, rummaging, spell interaction, mana rituals, polymorphism, free spells, Graveyard reuse and a monopoly over everything random.
White? Not only it gained very little, but it lost a lot over the years.
