Seeing a lot of P1P1 discussions via Twitter / Reddit / MTGS, I've started to notice a lot of people liking to P1P1 mana dorks. Strong picks in my book, but I think it's a bit of an overrated P1P1 in a lot of the P1P1 scenarios I've seen.
Pack of the day, what's your pick?
Mind Stone for me, surprised no one else considered this even with Seal and Academy.
Following that, that one's a bit tough. I want to say Coldsteel, but I'm less keen on first picking that mana rock. I love Wurmcoil and Primetime, but I think I'd still end up going with Coldsteel.
Cradle, Upheaval, Show and Tell and Goblin Guide are my tops. Tough one, but I probably would end up going with Upheaval. I like picking mana rocks and decks with shenanigans.
It's definitely between Strip Mine, Sneak Attack or the Signet depending on what I was wanting to play. My group likes to play fair decks, so a good chance at wheeling Braids would be a huge incentive to stick with Mine and hope to pick up Crucible/Ramunap later.
I feel like black is severely lacking in the 5 drop department.

I originally had a life payment clause on him similar to Deranged Hermit, but it feels like in this day and age he would get to lose that payment clause and being a rare, I feel he should get more power than Cloudgoat Ranger.

I wanted a competitive creature with an interesting recursion clause based on the recent enchantment creatures. Protection from white and from green as they're enemy colors and have exile/enchantment destruction effects to give it more resilience, but I felt it's balanced as it's not a terribly huge beater at 4/4 with flying and lifelink.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a pretty cool card. While she may cost a lot and her ultimate feels good but not great to me, though synergistic with her +1, her +1 and -3 are great abilities and are enough for me to want to play her. Having said that, I love Elspeth Tirel way too much and would never cut her for Elspeth 3.0.
What I am thinking of doing however, is cutting Angel of Serenity for her. I never much liked the card and Elspeth 3.0 seems to be much better in most situations.
As far as I know, Phantom Drafts aren't offered very frequently, and when they are, it's when they have the MTGO Cube up. (I also believe that they will be doing Phantom Modern Masters Swiss, but that is another story.)
They do offer Phantom Sealeds. Those cost four tickets each ($1 per ticket so $4 total) and if you go 2-1 (three out of the eight people will go 2-1) you get one booster which can be traded to a bot for around tickets (I recommend using the same bot every time because they store fractions of tickets - the booster will be worth 3.1 tickets or something like that and the bot will store .1 as credit). So, going 2-1 means that in order to do your next sealed, it will cost you $1.
Going 3-0 will give you three boosters and a QP (which are used for qualifiers in a monthly tournament). The three boosters will net you about 9-10 tickets, making your next sealed essentially free.
Basically, being in the top 50% of your pod makes doing another event much cheaper. I highly recommend doing phantom events, even though you don't get to keep the cards, because, for me, it's usually one ticket for three hours of entertainment, and I usually go 2-1, making my next event cheap.
And even if you don't place in the top 50%, you didn't miss out on much. It's only four tickets for the next one.
On a related note, Swiss drafts are similar (but more expensive). While Swiss doesn't give out as many prizes as the 8-4s, you are almost guaranteed to get one pack, making it $10 for the next Swiss draft instead of $16. Going 2-1 makes it $6 for the next draft instead, and going 3-0 makes it $2 for the next draft. This doesn't include the value of the cards that you get to keep. I also recommend doing Swiss drafts because you do get to play all three rounds and there is a good chance to go 2-1, and a $6 draft is much better than a $16 one.

I was hoping that someone here could help me with some questions I had about the phantom drafts. I love to draft and love how these phantom drafts sound as I'm not interested in collecting cards online and I'm on a budget. How often do these phantom drafts happen and how much do they cost? I'd like to be able to get online and just draft whenever I'd like, especially for a couple bucks, but I wanted to make sure I could actually do that before purchasing an account on MTGO.
I'm going to give this guy a shot. I don't want to drop Ob Nixilis for him because I love his value in Crucible/Strip Mine type decks. I like Kokusho but I feel I'll get a lot more value out of the demon.
Used to stay up late all the time with my old shift, but working mornings it's hard for me to stay up past 9 pm at this point.
