Could Day's Undoing function as a way to reload in Burn? Obviously it's not as good as Treasure Cruise, the higher mana cost hurts. But when your hand is empty, the drawback is basically inconsequential.

Honestly, this is more versatile than it seems. Good vs. cheaty griselbrand decks, tokens, twin, etc.., prob will find a place in Modern sideboards. Cantripping is nice.

I think that there are several red decks that can use this. It provides value for two turns. You can hit two lands with this. You get an untap step to cast all of your things. This card gives red decks far more draw power than they've previously had access to. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a very playable spell.

powerlevel is through the roof compared to all the other small "3rd sets".

New Phyrexia would like a word with you.

In all seriousness, it's not as high as Khans. That said, I really like this set. It's not insanely powerful, but I really like all of the mechanics, and it just seems to come together in an appealing way to me. This block is certainly shaping up to be far more exciting than Theros was. Large sets are basically always good (the only recent large set I wasn't a fan of was Gatecrash, and that was really just due to how badly Dimir got screwed with Cipher costs/lack of interesting playables), so I'd be surprised if DTK makes the block a flop for me.

I've tested it, and yes, you need multiple Ascendancies online, but as long as you diligently produce mana with triggers on the stack, you can easily hit 55 before milling out.

Yes, Grapeshot/Banefire are other options to win outside of combat. Now, what if my opponent has an arbitrarily high amount of life? Granted, the game shouldn't get to that state, but I was jusy pointing out that I often find the singleton Treasure Cruise redundant, and considering giving myself alternate outs. creatures are fragile enough that I don't like relying on the combat step to win.

Basically, every non-rotating format is now dominated or has a Delver deck that is considered one of the best decks in the format. Does anyone else not see a problem with that? For once, we had a non-rotating format where blue decks weren't top dog, they weren't the default option. We had a format where Delver was a fringe deck but now every non-rotating format is just riddled with blue decks or Delver decks.

Regardless of how it does in large events, TC needs a ban. No deck should have those levels. I remember when Jund was at that percent and everyone was calling for a ban. I think the majority of the people who don't want TC banned are those who play Delver or are new to the game.

Saying the deck should be banned even though it isn't dominating the tournament scene is absolutely insane. Tourney results are how you can determine that a deck is too powerful and needs a ban. Jund was regularly 4 of the top 8 in Modern tournaments. Delver had 1 showing in the top 8 at Milan. Don't try to compare the two, there's nothing similar there.

Delver isn't the top deck... it's one of the top decks. Do you just want Blue to continue being nearly unplayable outside of combo, as it had been in the past? I think the metagame is healtier when each color is viable, rather than each color minus blue, because UWR Control is only viable in very specific metagames, when Zoo/Affinity are big.

Also, your fist sentence. You could LITERALLY replace the word "Delver" with "Lightning Bolt" or "Tarmooyf" and you would still be telling the truth. A card can be good. People really need to get over this "Ban the deck that's good, even though it's not dominant, because I don't like it" attitude.

Treasure Cruise helps stabilize the combo, when you draw three cards it pretty much gaurantees you'll draw into another cantrip or two, otherwise your hand can be slowly whittled down before you reach lethal levels.

Also this deck is A LOT worse than 4c Ascendancy/Ascendancy 1.5, so generating enough mana for Blue Sun's Zenith to be worth it is more or less a pipe dream. Especially since just to draw as many cards as cruise does you need 6 mana. If you want a strong, expensive instant I would recommend Cryptic Command, I could see that card being very useful in a lot of situations, much more so than Zenith.

Has anyone considered running 1-2x Silence btw? I feel like that could do a lot of good.

I'm not planning on using BSZ as a way to draw cards myself unless I need to. I'm running 4 DTT, though, so I don't feel it'll come up often. The deck's not that much worse at making mana than the 4 color version. 50+ mana isn't an issue with multiple fatestitchers and ascendancies, which will happen once you start going off. The main mode for BSZ would be to pay ~55 to deck my opponent.

I'd like a main deck way to win outside of the combat step. Yes, we cantrip through the whole deck, and theoretically hit all the removal we could need to clear the board, BUT, it's still an option I'd like to have.

I've found that the singleton Treasure Cruise often is very redundant once we start comboing, and while it can be nice pre-combo, it's not really needed, so that's the card I'm likely cutting.

    Cards I'm looking at:
    Banefire - Uncounterable.
Devil's Play - Can be looted away safely, so we don't hold onto a dead card.
Blue Sun's Zenith - Not a dead card pre-combo. Provides an out to Pod gaining infinite life. Downside: Requires a lot of mana to win with.

I've been leaning toward Blue Sun's Zenith, just because, while expensive, I know the mana is doable, if you prioirtize hitting extra Fatestitchers. Once you get multiple Ascendancies online with 3+ mana dorks (which is easy to build, even starting with only 1 Ascendancy/Fatestitcher) the mana can hit the needed ~50 quite quickly, and it is the only card of the 3 that provides a way to win in certain board states that were previously unwinnable.

Delver isn't dominating the tournament scene. It's a relatively large amount of the metagame, but that's because it's a tier 1 deck that's fairly inexpensive and uses exciting new cards. It's still not at BGx Levels in the days of DRS, and that deck was FAR more expensive, making it a much harder deck to buy into.

I think it's sad that Treasure Cruise is basically immediately getting so many people pushing for a ban when, thus far, it hasn't truly been an issue. Blue has been the weak color in Modern for basically the entire life of the format. Treasure Cruise gives blue decks a reason to see play. Sure, it's VERY good, but a lot of the same arguments I'm seeing against TC could be used as easily against Bolt, Path, or Goyf. Just because a card is good and impacts the format in a sudden way, doesn't mean it's broken and needs to get banned. Modern doesn't rotate. The fact is, as a card pool increases, so will power level. Either you accept the Modern has power creep built into it as a feature, because the only way to keep it in check without a rotation is by banning, and banning every new powerful strategy is a surefire way to make people lose interest in the format, because it becomes stagnant.

Did the meta shift to make Delver tier 1? Yes. But metagame shift as healthy. They keep the format interesting. I wish these would happen more often, to be honest. Milan shows us a healthy metagame. We've had a healthy meta for a while now, actually, and typically I'd say we might expect some unbannings soon to shake the format up.

However, with the meta shift caused by Khans, Wizards most likely will choose to play it safe and not unban anything. Unless Modern degenerates very rapidly online (which I don't see happening, since it hasn't happened yet with Khans), I'll be very upset if any bannings do occur, just because the metagame seems perfectly fine.

Another issue with 12/16-post is that Glimmerpost helps ramp at the same time as buying time to the late game, the deck doesn't need to cast Emrakul, the deck is far better at just surviving to cast a Wurmcoil, making it nearly impossible to beat with aggro, and it's late game is just to hit land drops until it casts Emrakul, which makes it nearly impossible to beat with control. The deck is far more resilient than Tron is, with a faster ramp to Emrakul, and more incidental game against aggro. It's very hard to go fast or slow against in any fair way; you basically have to run combo to beat it, and if the Post deck is packing control like Repeal/Condescend, that becomes hard to do as well.

There are plenty of cards that I feel are better candidates for unbanning than Cloudpost.

I feel like Sword of the Meek, Bloodbraid Elf, and Golgari Grave Troll are all safe unbans. Ancestral Visions could come off if Treasure Cruise gets the hammer.

Yeah, we're certainly only seeing the beginning of the impact Dig/Cruise will have on eternal formats, but I have no doubt that both will make an impact.

So why is Treasure Cruise the next Mental Misstep,
yet Dig Through Time seems, as yet, a novelty?

Is it because you have to pay UU for Dig?
Its effect seems better in most cases.

The big difference is Dig doesn't feed additional Digs as well as Cruises supports additional Cruises, unless you build your deck to support Delve. A 1 mana sorcery vs. a 2-mana instant are about equally good in terms of costing, but Cruise gives you 3 cards that will either go to the grave for your next Cruise, or stay on the field and win you the game, whereas Dig only gives 2. I think a 1-3 split between Dig and Cruise is right.
