Wow, wish I lived in the US...just preordered a box today for ~$145 (949 kronor), which is kind of a deal here.
Why not buy from Magiccardmarket if it's so expensive in Sweden? RTR box preorder costs there 80 euros + 16 euros for shipping, almost 20 euros cheaper. If you find somebody else who wants to buy a box to share shipping costs, it gets even cheaper.
But giving decks 8 free counters (functional reprint) in Legacy would possibly wreck the format. Modern doesnt need a free counter since its a turn 4 format, unlike Legacy. Now if Wotc plans on letting Modern become faster and allowing fast combo, I agree FOW will be needed, but so far they have banned the cards that allow for that type speed in the format.
By the way, FOW and MM fill different roles. FOW is for fast combo mainly, MM narrows formats and turns games into who has more MMs. Not to mention MM can be played in any deck, and FOW needs a heavy blue commitment.
Yes, a functional reprint would be a bad idea, but what would be the issue with simply just reprinting FOW itself? It's not on the reserved list or anything.
And yeah, MM is a problematic card, yes. It's not card disadvantage unlike MM.
Those saying force of will, FOW is mainly good against fast combo which is not found in Standard. Add in they have banned mental misstep in Modern, I really dont think they would want FOW in Modern. If people are expecting a functional reprint, think of eternal formats with 8 free hard counters available to them.. I dont think so.
At one time I felt FOW was a safe reprint, no longer.
Mental Misstep is also banned in Legacy (unlike FOW), so no surprise that it's banned in Modern.
It's definitely a lot worse in type 2 than in an eternal format. I don't think they want it in modern however.
A decent counterspell is in order, but remember, snapcaster is in the format - that is a huge limit on what is printable. I think remand is even better with snapcaster than mana leak.
FOW has little synergy with Snapcaster as you can't use the alternative cost when flasbacking it. So it wouldn't be a problem at all. It might be an issue in Modern though, at least without these uncounterable answers. The biggest 'problem' for reprinting it is probably the price tag.
I fully agree. Manadrain is one of the best counterspells if not THE best counterspell in EDH.
But I guess there is little Chance for Mana Drain reprint:
"Mana Drain: One Magic developer has this to say, "The entire R&D team would have to be hit by a bus before we'd reprint Mana Drain." Start your engines."
I think the developers were talking about standard legal sets. Obviusly it's not getting a reprint in them, but the price tag is the only 'obstacle' in reprinting it in a Commander product.
Wanting reprints is one thing. Wanting them to ruin product for someones own satisfaction is another. People want Spell Snares. Go buy them. People should stop asking for them to ruin perfectly good products because they are selfish.
About FOW, I think their politic with legacy staples is the following - "we have expensive cards in the reserved list and expensive cards out of the reserved list, like FOW and wasteland. If we reprint the ones out of the reserved list, the format will still be expensive because people will still need the ones in the reserved list cards. So, if we reprint the ones we can reprint, more people will have them, and even more people will need the ones on the reserved list, making them even more expensive than they were when FOW and wasteland had not been reprinted".
TLDR - Legacy's number of players is defined by the number of printed cards in the reserved list, and that number won't get higher even if they reprint the expensive cards that are out of the reserved list.
Actually decks like Merfolk, Goblins and Death and Taxes need Wastelands or FOWs, but not duals, so reprinting them would still make the format more accessible.
Are they actually playable?

Yeah, power nine probably would become power ten.
Then again, it could be Marble Diamond.

Well I guess that's true..
How would Spell Snare ruin this DD?

Actually it kind of sucks against fair decks, as it's card disadvantage. If there were no combo decks in Legacy, I doubt it would be played as much.
