When did Wizards ever claim they wanted to keep the foiling process of EDH cheap? (Arguably the most expensive endeavor in magic besides type 1 is foiling an EDH deck) This is not your typical EDH product. Wizards is doing a great service here in FOILING STAPLES that haven't been foiled before. It is keeping them cheap because they could have released these as judge foils IE Command Tower and then people would still *****. Wizards is doing a great thing here, and people just don't understand.
A lot of people don't care about foils, or even would prefer to use non-foils. I think the complaining is because rather than offering reprints of staples, they look like they are doing a pimp-my-deck product with a huge price tag attached to it. As such they don't how high a BB or foil version costs, but how much the cheapest playable card costs. I for one wouldn't care if they would reprint staples in a set that has pink borders and a purple hatchet man riding a giant ***** as a set symbol if the price is right and they are tournament legal.
Chances is that something like that would drive the price up, as then you will start competing with non EDH players as well.
Probably not, as $75 is more than a FOW is. Also, there's no way a product that costs $75 is really aimed at casual players.. if they just print some generals and a couple of $10 cards in it, it's going to tank hard. A product with a price tag like this needs to have cards like FOW in it to justify the price tag.
EDIT: Any chance they'd put a cycle of snow duals in it?
Crucible of Worlds would be a cool reprint, but it's way too valuable for this sort of product. Plus, it'd likely unbalance the heck out of the decks.
Maybe in Commander's Arsenal?
A card that is less than 10 euros is still too valuable? But I agree that it would either unbalance the decks or just do nothing. Also, I don't think it fits the theme..
Just because some people don't can or don't want to "afford" a Ooze for let's say 30$ it's not the point to reprint it for everyone/cheaper...
It's as similar as it was with Imperial Seal-Discussion.
It's just that nobody "needs" Imperial Seal, but Ooze is needed in some Legacy decks, so this could be a good opportunity to reprint. Basically, the only reason to not reprint it in some product is to preserve its value, which is more understandable for a card that only collectors want.
Interesting, but I was talking about the poster who lived in Perth, Western Australia. I indicated that Western Europe had about the same market as the U.S., and that is likely true when looked at the markets on average.
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood that.. probably should read stuff more carefully in general.
Hope some hard to come by Rares are in this, doesnt have to be all the expencive stuff either, just different cards than they printed in previous releases of PvP and such stuff....
No card is hard to get unless it is expensive, if you don't know anybody who is willing to trade/sell theirs, you can buy it from magiccardmarket.eu.
Which also means they are generally easy to find and cheap to acquire.
I think part of the reason that your desires differ from those of the majority of the posters on this topic, is due to many of us are in the U.S.. For most of us getting common and cheap uncommon staples is not that tough, so we understandably are less inclined to hope for them. I am making a guess here, but I am going to guess that getting any magic card is harder and more expensive in Perth than it is for us and for most of western Europe, but forgive me if that generalization is incorrect. I can understand your desire to have such staples, and frankly would not be surprised if we saw some, but a lot of us are also craving Mirari's Wake, Crucible of Worlds, Gauntlet of Power, and/or Vedalken Shackles (for example) simply because they are some of the cards that are harder and more expensive for us to acquire.
Actually most cards are cheaper to get in Europe than in US, for example, Crucible of Worlds is 8 euros here, while it's 20 bucks in US. Vedalken Shackles is also like 9 euros, not 15 bucks like in US. Most duals are a bit cheaper too. Oddly enough, janky cards seem to be more expensive.
don't get excited... i'm pretty sure it's about something sullivan is working on ( new game or new job or smth like that) and will have nothing todo with anything "spoilerish" for MtG.
You are probably right.. anyways, it's August 1th now, have we heard of anything yet?
Its casual product the same as planechase was casual. If people are looking for expensive cards I would suggest event decks and RTV and possibly commanders arsenal. Tezz vs elspeth saw swords to plowshares and miresha factory and i doubt these decks will come any where close to those kinda of cards.
For izzet expect shock over lighting bolt and golgari expect Cabal Ritual instead of dark ritual . I kinda have come to expect the worse card over the better one.
Unless they have powerful cards, it's not going to get interest of "highly engaged players", but then again, that bit might just be marketing.
The SCG commentators, Sullivan & Chapin, mentioned some secret/surprise for August 1st on the Legacy Open coverage last night. This secret could be the start of spoilers possibly.
Looking at the list, here's what I would imagine would be the full list. Excluding the confirmed lands in bold, everything is based on my opinion.
Academy Ruins
Blinkmoth Nexus
City of Brass
Dark Depths Dryad Arbor
Forbidden Orchard
Glacial Chasm
Grove of the Burnwillows
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Mishra's Factory Murmuring Bosk
Reliquary Tower Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
Vesuva
Winding Canyons
Whether we are right or wrong, we shall see.
I hope not. It would be nice to see older lands that aren't already under $1 in price.
I'm actually getting sickeningly tired when someone still have to mention this in every product's topic. There is always someone and always there is many of them.
What do you expect? Really, it's one of the cards that most needs a reprint.

18 euros? At least on MCM you can get a NM Crucible for about 9 euros.

Oh, where did they say this?
Why is seeing only play in eternal formats a reason to not reprint it here? In what set they are then supposed to reprint eternal staples?
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood that.. probably should read stuff more carefully in general.
Err.. divining top is like 6 euros.. if that's way too expensive to reprint, this set is going to be total jank.

Hmm, sounds interesting..
