  • posted a message on evaluating Adventure creatures in Commander
I see them more being used as module spells. I plan on running a few in my Will and Rowan deck for flavor and that it helps with the balance of spells (theme of the deck) and creature by having both and I think thats what they will end up being.

Chulane, Teller of Tales works well for a commander for them but as ilovesaprolings said so far there isn't really enough of them or a good enough benefits for playing them to make a commander deck, IMO it really hurts the enablers that they don't also trigger off the adventure side being cast. I think a number could find homes in decks but not as an adventure deck.

I thought it was hinted that Happily Ever After would be a card to breath new life into mono-white in EDH... this can't be accomplished in a mono-white deck. Maybe I misunderstood.

Iirc it was linked to white and card draw in commander. So I'm guessing white can get "all players" draw card effect now. Maro has also said it was a minor thing.

    As far as I understand its;
Cleric- Spellcaster who uses faith or healing magic
Wizard- Learned spellcaster/ traditional magic user
Shaman- Does magic by using feeling and instinct
Druid- Using magic by connecting to nature

and Warlock is unclear but seems to be dark magic and possibly use the DnD idea of having a "patron". We don't quite know what the Warlock types is suppose to detail.

And while they normally stick to color wee seen these classes moved in other colors for flavor, such as Amonkhet and Theros getting different colored cleric or the Tarkir and Kylem tend to have warriors while Eldraine and Dominaria have knights.

Still salty about noble, I made an entire custom block around nobles and posted it years ago.

Well to be fair this something they have been talking about doing for at least 7-8 years ago. Doug has a old tumblr post from 2013 saying they had been talking on adding Nobles for a while.

Piper of the Swarm also doesn't seem very black, repeatable token making (without even costing life like Dreadhorde Invasion and Bitterblossom) and Mind Control are not abilities we have seen much of in black (Ritual of the Machine is pretty old precedent to be drawing on).

Black makes tokens, its considered the second best after white/green. Black is also allows control just not mostly your opponent but we have cards as recent as New Blood.

Robber of the Rich has reach randomly for flavor reasons. And is also stealing a UB ability. Granted the flavor is pretty good for this card so it probably gets a pass.

Reach has been in red since Magic Origins.

Vista is modern power level, this is standard power level.

This is my thought, its a weaker (read cheaper) version of Vista thus more accessible.

I see a lot of its value from how it can help you recover in longer games. After a wrath or your opponent killing off your big creature this can let you draw and ramp back up as well as the free life gain with the mana so you stall out a bit.

I'll update soon, since a few cards come from the stories/play with the same trope kinda waiting to end so I can group it all together cleanly.

So far the Cinderella reference of birds peaking out eyes is my favorite.

Being his wife doesn't necessarily give her the authority of the High King. Really depends on the laws of the land, so it can't be assumed the wife of the High King has the same authority over the five courts as the High King.

It still makes her Queen of the High Court. It also means he is king, both of the High Court and Ardenvale(Hence why he is monowhite with 5 activated abilities not 5 color) Thus, hypothetically, she would have higher authority than the rulership of the other four courts. She could have had either design and it be an accurate portrayal of her character. They wanted her to fit into the ruler cycle and made Kennreth special because he was the BaB. The honest shame is that they didn't put some of the more minor characters on the uncommon legends. I.E. Syr Cato for the White uncommon Knight.

BTW for those who don't mind spoilers or don't intend to read the book you can find a pretty good summary here. (from this guys point of view the book isn't that much more worth a read than the WAR book was.)

This may come as a shock, but a queen, even the highest queen in a realm, often did NOT have all the powers of the king, especially if the king had a living oldest heir (in the real world usually male heir), and especially if she was not the blood mother of the heir(s). Such a queen would act, at best, as a regent, and answerable to the Lords and to the Crown Prince, without anything near the full powers of the monarchy herself. This is not always the case, but often enough. And we do not know what the laws and courtly rules of Eldraine are, so we still cannot say that Linden herself had the same power over the other Courts of Eldraine, simply because she's the High King's wife.

In a huge number of societies, Will and/or Rowan would have the power of the throne, and NOT a stepmother queen. So really, it's not at all unreasonable to think Kennreth's abilities represent his power as the High King alone, and having nothing to do with the knightly quests he and Linden apparently undertook in younger days, nor that anyone who's not the High King would NOT have such abilities.

It seems that Eldraine runs on a "divine merit system" and not hereditary. Algenus and Linden (both born in the peasant class) where picked by the Questing Beast to go on the High Quest to gain knighthood of the 5 courts and implies that Rowan and Will (as well as Hazel and Erec) would need to be picked by the beast as well. Linden also mentions the last rulers abused thier rule privilege and thats the reason they lost power.

Funny enough its bright up by the people if she is up to ruling while the king is missing even thought most people have 1 knighthood and Linden had 4 knighthoods.

It seems like there's also a cycle of uncommon 2 color spells with no thematic/type/mechanics connection- i.e []Drown in the Loch[/c] and Grumfully, the Generous.

Those are the two color draft archetype cycle we normally get every set.
