I dunno why Core Set's get so much hate, M19 and M20 were great sets!! Smile Hoping M21 is too
    I especially loved M20

I do have a feeling 2021 isn’t going to be so great though. I’m sick of Teferi

Well we will most likely get 4 new Teferi cards (including the PW deck card), I hope core 21 is more like core 19, core 19 gave us new elder dragons, so I'm hoping with m21 we can get some old lore characters like OG phyrexians, and other legends that have bad cards getting new ones, Core 19 was way more about Bolas than Core 20 was about Chandra, we even got story in m19

Just as likely to get a origins transform walker.

Core set have been stepping up some in having a cool sub-theme and such so I've been optimistic, not really into buying much of the set as it tend to be more new players but they tend to add in a new things I love here and there.

For this case last time in core 2020 the sub-theme was a tribal with elementals

    And this time...
    https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/618946807189372928/hello-mark-so-is-there-a-tribe-in-core-set-2021

    Still tribal

Last years was wedge, azban go wide, jeskai flying matters, sultai ebt effects, mardu aggro and temur elementals, and they tend to have a tribal theme/sub-theme in sets unless something else eats at the space.

I will likely never buy a pack (maybe when traveling is possible and I can go to my "local" game store), but I like this just to have reprints to help cheapen the cards.

I also feel like this leading to a good compromise between alternate art and trying to built a cohesive style. Having more nontraditional art on promos helps the promo feel more special.

They had a complete set planned out for a mirrodin reborn where the phyrexian lost. They didn't print it because the story line was better dark. I can't remember what that set was called. Old leaked photos had booster box images and boosters. It's been years and years. They will go back they have the story already built. It's somewhere in the bowels of mtg salvation and the internet.
    I found it. https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Mirrodin_Pure

No they didn't, it was a fake set they made to keep the mystery of who won between Mirrodin and Phyrexia. The storyline had been locked since the original mirrodin had been set up to be where Phyrexia would be reborn. All Mirrodin Reforged was a red herring.

Article on the mothership, looks like stores can "sign up" to get them (along with a print of Vivien and the monsters from the trainers in the comic style art) on/after June 5th and no time limit yet when store can sign up as they know not all areas will be opening up as fast as others.

Well in retrospect the wedge theme in M20 was set up for Ikoria and might not be repeated, since M21 will likely set up later sets themes.

    As for walkers I could see;
W-Elspeth, as she is newly retuned. Maybe Teyo or Wanderer, unlikely imo Ajani for another set as they said they gonna try to show off the divers cast they have.

U-Jace if we don't see Teferi here (see below), a more foamier face and hasn't been in any recent core sets and outside of war of the spark hasn't had a card since Ixalan.

B-Davriel, I think he might be featured in a set soon, this would be a way to introduce him.

R- Not sure, they are a lot of characters in this spot.

G- Garruk, similar to Elspeth he's retuned to the storyline and this would be a way to show off he is mono-green again.

WU-Teferi if we see him shown as he is in the present. If not, I'd see him in mono-blue and I'd be down for a transform Teferi that goes from blue to white/blue.

Huh with the tone of this I wonder if a lot of Ikiora is also showing the post-story world.

I dunno, pretty sure Kudro dies during the story so...

No duh, I was noting that often the set story will end at the final, this time we are seeing the fall out of the storys conflict.

For me its just the trying to figure out where to find certain things. Buy-a-box, collector boosters/themed booster only, top boxers and such gets a little confusing and much.

Thanks for this, I'll put the info in the wiki! Some years ago, Wizards used to put these info on their site, but the time for updating the lore section of the mothership is apparently long gone now...

They have the main bios commanders on the story on cards just with Viviens personal flare, thought its a shame they didn't put the sub-commanders.

I'm loving the partner commander so much honesty, wish there was a pair I wanted to build around.

    Well this is good news:

    https://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/616506707182600192/ifwhen-more-davriel-big-when-i-expect-more

I totally expect him to be in the 2022 Core Set, or perhaps a suppimental, non-standard set. I do not however expect him to be in any non-core, standard legal sets anytime soon as everythig coming out has been in the works for quite some time. He barely made it in WAR and that was only because they needed a new Mono B planeswalker with a discard theme, which Dav happened to fit perfectly.

When we learned more about behind the scene for the Bolas arc they said Dovin and Kaya had been created for the Ravnica 3/War of the Spark storyline and had been put into Kaladesh and Conspiracy Take the Crown to introduce them some before hand and I wondering if they did something similar with some of the other planeswalkers such as Dav, Yanggu, Vivien and Angrath for War of the Spark and future stories. Maro said Kasmina is a character pulled from a future storyline they decided to give a tease for. Sanderson said originally Dav was also a future character that was being in the process of being in a currently drafted story (wanna say they needed a mono-black character and rest was up to Sanderson) which might have been War of the Spark but might also been little intro set for a bigger story line*.

*like main set big not necessarily being big story arc.

  • posted a message on Theros Novel
From daily MTG Django Wexler said off hand that he had finished the writing on Sundered Bonded and sent it off to edit near the end of the year. If we use this time table with the Theros novel (so this might be fully off) its likely was gonna be out early 2020 so the first draft or so would have been finished late October/early November. Forsaken came out in November which lead them to need to redo the venting and editor system and this likely left Theros at still being a first or rough draft and missing the window to be fully published. Likely by the time the new editing team came around Thero already being spoiled or even been selling. So they have something but not the time to give it the resources to finish it up but as magic timetable runs fast so they likely wouldn't have had time for this likely until M21 (if we don't get a story for that set). To note, the editing team likely dosen't just edit but need to monitor things such as lore ties and set up for the future.

Their is also likely the matter of author and/or publishing contracts to deal with. The author might not want their work used anymore or doesn't want it to be used in another format (or similar issue with the publisher) which leads to another host of issues such as finding a new author and such. If not they likely need to reschedule everything and needing to redo contracts in addition to editing the story. The corporate side of stuff might also be sour at losing money for unpublished book and might not wanna toss out more money on it unless they feel like it would be profitable.

Related would also be the weirdness of when would they publish it. They missed the window to tie with the set which hurts with sales and advertisement. Assuming they aren't doing ebooks for the core sets, that also limits the window of when they can release it and not have it draw attention from the current set they are trying to sell. As it has ties to New Phyrexia we might see close to that story arcs return to help set it up, even more so if Ashiok and/or Elspeth are featured in with New Phyrexia storyline.

Technically they are already eternals, they are coated with Lazotep and are clearly undead.

They just didn't make it through because the set had no space for them.

Maybe Scarab god but the other two don't quite look lazotep coated. And while they do look undead in story they never call them such but I wouldn't rule it out.

And since the plan was for all five gods to end up dead and Bolas gods to remain (un)alive, Hazoret being alive might have forced Bolas to settle with only settling for four god eternals.

    Quote from Mullerornis »
Ideas for the uncorrupted remaining gods:

Locust God = GU god of fertility. If it has to be a flyer, maybe something like Wadjet or a sphynx.

Scarab God = WB god of the hosts. Falcon headed.

My hope is to actually see all three pre-Bolas as a single grixis colored card, gives us a look at what they looked like and maybe what they where gods of but also a way to keep the names (sadly) lost.

I do like your idea thought have having each god keeping a color they shared with Bola and gaining a color outside of him and how with Hazoret you'd still have color balance in the gods.

We can guess two of the the was ram headed and falcon headed for the minotaur and white aven. Maybe a human patron as well so all the races had a go they where reflected in? A sphinx could also work with the human head but a animal body.

I'm also struggling to see a beneficial locust god. Scarabs are fine, they are beneficial beings in original egyptian mythology as well, but locusts? Locusts always stand for being something negative. I suppose he could be a fertility god, maybe.

Well Bolas said he twisted them into his tool (even warping what animal they had for a head) so I do think they would have different purposes. The two thoughts I've seen (and liked) is the locust god might have been a fertility/agriculture god and scarab god was once the guardian/protector of the real afterlife since Bolas had a cruel fondest for making a twisted parody of amonkeht culture (scorpion god would be a healing/medicane god for this example).

I like the idea that the scarab god used to be in charge of the celestial, including moving the sun (like scarabs are said to do in egyptian mythology). This would also explain why Bolas corrupted him, because he needed to create/transform the second sun to serve as the trigger for his return.
Could probably still be tied to the afterlife.

Funny enough the person who came up with some of these ideas was a egyptologist who was talking about how the scarab god seems to have taken some inspiration from Khepri who was an aspect of Ra who represented of the morning sun and renewal/rebirth Ra took each day he escaped/reborn from the underworld. The egyptologist guessed this was referenced with scarab god leading the eternals. So the scarab gods being a god of the afterlife/renewal/rebirth as well as being a solar deity would very much fit from the source material. If the scarab god is as speculated hawk-headed gods and is restored could also play into the original myths with.

In the corrupted mythology it was also said Bolas made Hazoret with the same magic as the second sun so might be she's the true god of the sun, though as there are two suns makes sense to have a god for each.

I seem to remember reading during War of the Spark that Hazoret and her followers had returned to reoccupy the ruins of Naktamun? I could be wrong? But I swear I remember that being mentioned.

EDIT: Yeah, from the MTG wiki:
Hazoret gave them her spear, reassuring Samut about the condition of Amonkhet's population: the goddess and the mortals brought the last two corrupted gods away from Naktamun; they have repopulated the city and created a new Hekma.

Now, they could always retcon that bit, and I'm not sure what good a new Hekma is against the Locust god, considering he was able to (in fact twisted for the purpose of) destroy(ing) the last one. So, I suppose they could use the plotline that Hazoret's followers are TRYING to repopulate Naktamun, and detailing all the struggles they face. That could serve as the primary focus of the story, with other themes like rediscovering the past and such to flesh it out.

Thye said the corrupted gods are a lot less powerful without Bolas there to instruct them. Chances are even during the hours they where acting on pre-programed magical commands and can't really adapt unless Bolas gives them new commands.

I do wonder why Bolas didn't make them eternals as well.
