I have been hoping for a Fairy tale themed set (more Disney and Grimm then Lorwyn). Fairy tales are meant to be be retold and alternate so it won't be that hard to adapt many of the themes into the set.

If the Sural does anything to Ulamog I will thoroughly be amused. One of the five most powerful Theros artifacts, and most powerful artifact on Zendikar was a trinket against Kozilek. So continuity shall be expected.

I'd guess Dekella most likely lost a good amount of power when it was pulled away from Nyx as well.

Plus we have been told many times Tarkir is Ugins homeworld. If he was a titan they would have stated he is a naive of Tarkir.

I really wonder about Gideon's past, actually.

In The Purifying Flame, he says that his Sural was given to him by his master who got it from a Planeswalker. His master thus also knew of Planeswalkers - it is explicitly discussed how Gideon was better prepared than many young 'Walkers since he had someone with a bit of knowledge to help him get started.

But if that is now supposed to be Hixus, why was this not mentioned in the Origins story? Is this retconned out? Is it someone on Bant?

In the duels games (which I think is canon) it said Hixus had been trained by a planeswalker.

On a less serious note, does anyone else wonder why Innistrad is the designated Plane Of Fashion Alteration? Liliana and Jace both switch out of their iconic outfits for the gowns and greatcoats of the Plane - neither they nor any other NeoWalkers seem to do that elsewhere. Much as I'd love Gideon to go shirtless on Zendikar or Elspeth to have donned a Meletian toga, Innistrad alone brings this out in people. Why?

    And why is Tamiyo immune?

I think the idea is that the planeswalkers coming to Innistrad are trying to hide from the locals. They don't need to do that on Zendikar because they are openly fighting the Eldrazi and the Eldrazi won't let you live just because you changed your clothes. Ravnica has such a variety of clothes that it is easier not to be noticed. Tamiyo probably didn't change her clothing on Innistrad because she isn't interacting with the locals. She is spending her time studying the moon rather than walking through town.

Plus Innistrad is known to be pretty cold, they are "stuck" in the times of late fall/early winter when you can very clearly see your breath. The costume change could be for the weather, which why the Innistrad version of garruk had a shirt.

    Stuff

I meant how the question of if Nahiri will appear was phrased.

It was phrased just like all the if/when questions:

dungeons-and-vegans asked: When/if: a new Nahiri planeswalker card.

But he was talking about a PW card, not just an appearance, if that answers your question.

That is what I meant when asking about how the question was phrased. It now makes a difference since not every planeswalker will be getting a card every time they make a story appearance.

Besides being a very promising build-around-me commander, I'm very surprised to see a white and black Kor. Might this be a possible hint for a corrupted white and black Nahiri as well?

Mark Rosewater said another Nahiri was an if and not a when in the next seven years. Meaning we probably (most probably) wont see her in shadows.

I don't think that really means much. He always answers questions like he doesn't know what's coming. If Nahiri is going to be a plot point (I don't think it's going to be Nahiri=Avacyn) they will keep it as a surprise. He may actually know or just know that it's something Creative will resolve.

They way that Nahiri was left as Sorin's next quest makes me pretty sure we will know what happened much sooner than 7 years. Especially with the two block structure.

Design has already finished working with shadows over innistrad. He is the head designer of all magic. Whenever something is in design, it must pass through him first. Not to mention even if he isn't credited in design, it's his views design follows. Thats one of the reasons he changed it, that now all supplemental products must pass through him first, so that cards like chaos warp don't happen again (which is sad). So if MR states that he views another Nahiri as an IF in the next 7 years rather than a when, believe it ain't happening.
He also explicitly stated that he doesn't take into account what he knows about the future when answering questions on blogatog, thus, from his point of view Nahiri (A Kor Planeswalker with affinity for equipment) is an IF in the next seven years, but it is creative who determines which characters appear in the Story, so if they say Nahiri is happening, she will appear whenever they see fit to include her, regardless of MaRo's opinion in the matter.

How was it phrased? Mark could mean he doesn't think Nahiri will get a new card but she could still appear in the story.

frankly the vampires do what they do out of necessity, not quite out of malice.

The only thing that vampires need to do is drink blood. All the other stuff is clearly malicious.

    From the Innistrad planeswalker guide to vampires;

Court of the Vampire King/Queen. This disturbing three-day holiday was invented by Olivia Voldaren. A human is identified, kidnapped, and brought to a large vampire estate or castle, where they serve as "King or Queen of the Vampires" for the duration of the event. The mock king/queen, always utterly terrified, of course, is served the best food and drink and is theatrically supplicated. The vampires will follow any order the king or queen issues, except any attempt to abdicate the "throne." At the end of the three days, the king or queen is killed and all present share the blood.

Yea on the non-ally part: what's up with Wizards. I thought only those without flying aren't allies??? lol

Umm what? Drana (2.0) and the two angel allies have words to say to you.

Ally creatures are anyone who's fighting in Gideons army. From what a few people have guessed she is part of the eldrazi cult...so totally not an ally.

The only issue I see is that there are too many planeswalkers already invested in the Theros storyline, who we don't see enough of as it is. Theros doesn't really require any of the Origin 5, but I could see Jace eventually facing off against Ashiok, and Gideon being involved with Ajani's plan to get even with Erebos and some of the other gods.

They'll just do with what they did with BFZ and (to a lesser extent) Takir, with having walkers in the story but don't get a planeswalker card. I also bet we'll at least see a new card for the Origins 5 per block.

Could be Avacyn gets corrupted because of people believing that she is some sort of evil creature so she becomes one. It could also go down a rout where the vampires start worshipping Avacyn.

Didn't karn leave after he got his spark back?
Yes, but to continue the fight against Phyrexia elsewhere. We know from Elsepth's backstory that Phyrexia has been reborn on more than just Mirrodin, and it's because Karn carried it everywhere he went.

Of course, this is just my vague recollections. Can anyone back me up on it?

Argent Mutation sums up Karns whereabouts atm. Basically he considers Mirrodin a lost cause and is off cleansing other planes before Phyrexia can corrupted completely them like what happened to Mirrodin.

For the record I'm kinda neutral about Jace as a character.

I've met a lot of people who are not really into the flavor of magic but who know about Jace and like him. A lot of them are new players who started around Theros and Tarkir so Jace didn't get a huge amount of spotlight besides the core sets and from the bits of story I've told/gotten them to read a lot of them still latch onto Jace. Shrugs

Anyways I like the art of this card and as a non-blue player this card looks annoying to play against.

Throughout the zendikar URs something I never quite got....How in the multiverse does gid survive? how does his powers work. The eldrazi are mana feeding dust making things yet he is able to hold off CuthuluUlamog who by just being around him should A. make him go mad (unless he has some-kind of mind protection I missed) B. turn to dust. Have they explained this through out the recent URs cuz i think this might have been an oversight.

This has been my one main problem with BFZ block. Ulamog and his brood in general do not seem to be the threat they are built up to be whenever they are presented in-story. I am fine with Ula and his brood being giant tentacle smash monsters since I think it is now heavily implied that he is the smallest and weakest of the eldrazi titans. But the smallest and weakest eldrazi titan should still be much more powerful than anything else, and certainly should be able to muscle past, or even ignore out of hand a lone warrior, even an indestructible one. Head-cannon: Giedeon's aura protects him from magical attacks/dangers as well as physical ones, and thus he is protected from Ulamog's aura, which perplexes Ulamog enough that he pauses to swat at Gideon. Anyone else would have been annihilated. No evidence for this obviously, but it's how Im making sense of Gideon's survival.

Same, I can see Gideons indestructible ability to keep his from being ripped apart from Ulamogs aura but honesty I can't really see how he could physically hold Ulgmog back alone.
